Fishing here is brilliant. The pools are all looked after really well and the owner and the bailiff are full of knowledge about the pools. I fished the top pool and had a wonderful day. Definitely be coming back.
Hi every time I come here it’s amazing the fish are in good health and they certainly put up a good fight
My Wife and I spent 6 Fantastic days Fishing at Lakeside both from the decking of our Lodge and from the bank.
The owners of the lake are very down to earth and could not be more friendly with help and advice.
For my wife who is a fan of the Grand Designs program, staying in a lodge at the Lincolnshire Round house was a reel treat.
For me, good size Carp and the odd Monster to chase was both thrilling and knackering as 60 plus landed in the week 😵‍💫
Great Value for money, Great fishing and a Great Experience I will be returning to chase the ones that got away🎣
Been here a few times now with my son and was lucky enough to have the top pool to ourself today. Some cracking fish and bailiff is always friendly.

Why making access to nature exclusive?? Such places should be open to the public all year round or at least come up with a concept where everyone can enjoy nature without bookings, paying money or only during open days… I know it takes time and costs money to maintain such places but denying access and keeping the public out for profits is not the solution and should be actually banned! Nature is there for everyone to enjoy at any time.
This place is by far my favourite. So peaceful and quiet. The lodges are spot on and have everything you need, I could honestly live there. The fishing is awesome. The lake has a good head of carp, I've been twice and broken my personal best both times. They also have a couple of sturgeon and cat fish. The owners house is beautiful and the owners themselves are really lovely, welcoming, friendly and always happy to answer any questions. This has become a place I will visit multiple times a year.

Paradise is the best description. Owners are lovely people the lodge is gorgeous and the fishing is spectacular. Love the place.
If you like the wheels on your car then drive slow as the road down to it is horrendous, full of massive pot holes from the get go, as for the actual roman lakes, it's been closed for a long time, we went recently and they had blocked off the entrance for a private function. Nice walk when it is open though.

We took the nation cycle way from Skellingthorpe to Newark, a very nice ride through villages and off road 👍 . We stopped at Balderton lake for a picnic, there is anther cycle route that takes you alongside the lake, you can peel off at the lakeside and cycle or walk round the lake, which is larger than you think! Benches are situated around the lake, and its landscaped with plants and walled seating at one end, where you will be visited by ducks, geese, and moorhens after a quick share of your food. We went on a match day but the benches are placed away from the swims, so you don't really disturb the anglers.
I visited here in 2022 with my adult Son, we loved it so much we brought my Husband and other Son with us this year. The Lodge (Kingfisher) is lovely, has a rustic feel, fairly well equipped, spacious and with beautiful views across the Lake, the log burner in the evening was just lovely.
The fishing was excellent, My Husband caught multiple large carp with limited experience carp fishing, and we had a lot of smaller fish too! We loved the visits from the Ducks and Rosie the Cat and we couldn't have wished for a more relaxing time. The place is quiet and friendly and we can't wait to rebook a different lodge for next year....we hope to slowly try them all! Thanks a million.
Been here twice and blanked but thats probably down to me more than anything , Guy oppo me caught 5 in a 6 hour period.

Alan the baliff really nice guy and helpful and the lake itself is stunning.

Fishing ok only one big carp five and a half pounds the rest small fish
Love this place. Had some quality fish out. And the cafe is amazing. It's worth a visit and a breakfast
Immaculate place to fish, credit to the guys that maintain the pools and surrounding areas, fished today with my mate, what a day over 50 carp between us, not bad in 6 hours, The fish are in stunning condition not like some of the places we've fished.
Fished the Top pool, we'll definitely be back, hopefully land the couple that broke us on 6lb bottom line 😀

They seem to enjoy wasting people’s time and energy!

We drove down to Roman Lakes to visit on (20th Aug), it’s not an easy place to get too due to the nature of the roads around it which are tight and possibly the worst for pot-holes that I’ve seen in a few years. Horrendous, and slight risk to damaging most average cars.

We have wanted to visit for a while and decided to make the trip, packing for the day. Visited the Facebook page and website, to get information prior.

After making the difficult trip… ‘Private Function No Public Access’. Sorry what?

You’re in one of most accessible locations possible and you don’t provide ANY prior warning across any social or website that you’re completely closed. Not just us, but plenty of cars were coming down and having to turn around (as well as walkers).

This made the already dangerous road even more or an issue and opportunity for difficulties, injury of accidents.

We pulled into the car park for a moment to work out what to do and a rude member of staff came out within about 30seconds to wave us away… ‘there are signs! We are closed to the public today!’

Awful already and frankly you should be ashamed of yourself a for unnecessarily putting people into difficult situations, disrupting weekend plans and being rude too boot.

Will never return, and will never recommend to anyone.
It's not really fishing. The lake we fished was over stocked. You could catch carp with any bait.
The cafe is excellent. Good all day breakfast.

Really friendly owner who made us feel very welcomed, we fished the small match lake and was one of the best days fishing we have ever had. Constantly pulling in 4-6lb carp on the method feeder, the pond has great features to fish to and the pegs are very well maintained. By far one of the best ponds for feeder fishing we have been to, also very clean toilets which can be hard to find at fisheries. 10/10 experience and we will certainly be back!

Fantastic venue, owners are warm and welcoming.
Pools are fantastic and well kept. Great variety.
It’s my go to place for a great day’s fishing.
Visit this venue weekly. Food is excellent, staff are very friendly and the setting (at the side of the fishing lakes) is gorgeous. It's also very popular with cyclists and Sunday mornings can get busy but with outdoor seating available (weather permitting) its not too bad. Wheelchair accessible. Only downside is the access lane surface needs attention, very VERY rough with lots of potholes, but still well worth visiting.
Oh my word, we have just returned from this absolutely beautiful place & what can I say. The Kingfisher lodge we stayed in was amazing, everything catered for, comfortable beds & huge flat screen TVs in all 3 rooms. It was so so quiet & the fishing was out of this world. My husband & son caught over 400lb of fish (42 carp in total), mostly all from off the veranda of the lodge. The lake is so very well stocked, it was non stop fishing. Amy & Paul were just so lovely & asked us everytime we saw them if we needed anything etc. We went for a week but soooo wished we'd booked for longer. We will definitely be booking to go again. Thank you so much Amy & Paul

We went for a day out for fishing at Alvechurch fisheries. Probably one of the best experiences for me and my 6 year old boy. Scot was really helpful throughout our time as we had very little experience of fishing before this time.
I've been going to Portland for years .. and the reason why is it's peaceful and quiet , with a great variety of fish and the staff and owners are polite and a friendly bunch..and it has a cracking cafe .
What a fantastic place , Peace and quiet, brilliant fishing. Plenty of Carp caught High singles to low doubles, although its obvious larger fish are in there, Tench, Roach and perch also caught, However the Bream, Sturgeon and catfish evaded us. Met Paul a few times when he stopped to chat and see how we were doing and offer advice. A very nice man, down to earth with no airs and graces, unfortunately we did not get to meet Amy. The setting is idyllic the Lodge we stayed in (Lavender) rates 5 star Plus. The beds so comfortable and everything was spotless Cannot fault this place in any way, will return for hopefully many more visits.
First time fishing this fishery and wow what a beautiful little paradise. Started the day with a full English breakfast from there cafe it was one of the best breakfast I have had at a fishery. We had a match on top pool I won the match with a weight of 103lb of mixed fish bream and carp I would highly recommend a visit to this beautiful place 👍
Good value breakfast and coffee plenty of outdoor seating. Fishing looks good too by the amount the guy near us was catching

The location is primarily a mecca for fishermen with several lakes to fish in a woodland area. There is a breakfast cafe open to the mid afternoon which is great & with the sun shining a very peaceful place.
Half way through a short stay at lakeside fishing lodges we are staying as a couple and brought our son and his girlfriend for a relaxing couple of days! From the minute we arrived at the beautiful entrance we new we would be able to switch off and chill we phoned Amy at the entrance as we forgot to phone 10 mins before arrival as requested she kindly said drive through go straight to your cabin and relax and enjoy if you need anything just call so friendly after a long drive Paul and Amy have a special way of making you totally chill out Paul later gave me some advice on where to fish a had time for a genuine chat which was nice he’s like this with everyone both of them that’s why there’s so many repeat customers you almost feel like family there there if you need them otherwise you immediately can just switch off and relax and that is what we have done we don’t want to go home it’s just beautiful here even if your not fishing it’s so idillic and extremely peaceful what a little piece of paradise people I’ve spoken to also say exactly the same and the repeat guest travel hours to be able to come here the fishing is fantastic I’ve witnessed all types of fish coming out regularly there’s something here for everyone the fish are immaculate and in the short time we’ve been here lots of upper doubles coming from every swim people are happy here that’s how it makes you feel the cabins have everything you need for a short or long stay very clean and the bed linen and towels are absolutely immaculate the thing that makes this place though is the owners there fabulous people and we will be returning soon thanks for a great couple of days we don’t want to go home!

Nice place to sit and watch the local wildlife on a Sunday morning. Plenty of Geese and ducks to entertain, and the baby rats were cute too. Mum and Dad, not so much
Mixed feelings about this place. It’s fairly difficult to get to with a very bumpy road down. It only opens once a month to the public. They have a little band playing which is lovely but the drinks were all warm. Not ideal given it’s summer. Not sure why they don’t have them refrigerated. The grounds are stunning however lots of bird & duck poop. Staff are pleasant. It’s peaceful and pretty. I believe you can no longer fish here. I phoned up twice to ask about a private function- they took my email both times but I never heard back from them.
Easy parking.had whale breakfast and couldn't eat all the bread or eggs.good quality.also had lasagne made with cheddar not bechamel and no garlic bread but otherwise very nice, hot etc
Caught a 40lb sturgeon out of here! 😂

Beautiful, peaceful. Little cafe on site where you can get a good breakfast. Primarily for fishing with 3 lovely pools, lovely to sit at little wooden cafe benches & watch anglers catch their fish.....observed a big fish being caught after watching just 5 minutes! Beautifully kept & calm & peaceful. A good place for breakfast & to birdwatch, even if you're not a fisherman.
UPDATE.
Apparently there's 7 pools, Not just 3!
I didn't explore enough obviously. Can only mean it's twice as beautiful as I thought.
Wonderful place and superb customer service from the hosts Amy and Paul. They are the most genuine down to earth lovely people. Would not hesitate to visit again. Thank you both for going above and beyond for our visit, I've had a great weekend fishing with my dad making great memories.
What a brilliant place so peaceful .sunflower lodge is absolutely amazing everything you could need for your stay. site is spotless .the fishing was great plenty of carp out between 4 and 16 lb .great stay can't wait to return will be booking again soon for sure .didnt have the pleasure of meeting the owners .but the nice chap in the lake side van gave us a nice welcome and told us what we needed to know overall 10/10 for me .
First visit today, very well kept tidy rubbish free fisherie. Several pools to choose from very quiet location.
Fished the top pool had a great catch of carp bream roach and one gorgeous Rudd. Fish in great condition too. Coming back the next day to try another pool.
Met the owner very friendly and helpful, not many spots like this excellent.

Love this place haven't been back since Tony passed away great memories aways kept clean A++
As a keen local angler I turned up here to take a quick look at the location prior to coming here fishing. I was peremptorily thrown out by a rude old man in a white van who told me I wasn’t allowed in if I wasn’t fishing. It was the least friendly welcome I’ve had anywhere in 60 years fishing. Needless to say I shan’t be going back to fish, or for any other reason.
Fantastic place, looks well taken care of. Had a nice family outing with the kids. Serene environment, wonderful. The kids absolutely loved it, especially feeding the ducks.
I'll definitely return for a summer visit with them again as they can't get over it in a hurry.
Beautiful place and lovely cafe too. Great for families. Love walks.
This is my happy place great fishery, great friendly place Mark and Mickey are very welcoming and informative.
The facilities are spot on with a well stocked tackle shop, cafe, and fresh maggets. Now onto the fishing all pools have wheelchair pegs with easy access and parking close to pools, the pools are well stocked with a wide of quality fish ensuring a great days fishing. The fish are in immaculate condition in all the pools from skimmers to barble and carp, I have tried other local Fisheries but Alvechurch is in my opinion the best by far and offers not just a place to fish but a fishing experience.
Lovely fishery great cafe and friendly staff had a steady days fishing but it is only march so can only see that improving I'd definitely recommend this place for a visit weither your a keen fisherman or just fancy a nice bite to eat in Lovely surroundings

It wasn't open but that was my fault for not paying attention to the fact that it has open days every last Sunday of the month, otherwise it's all locked up. Also a word of caution to drivers of non 4 wheel drive cars.. Google maps will take you there but the last few miles is track that is deeply pitted. Otherwise it looks lovely but I won't be returning by car!

Was seeing a lot on Facebook about this place eventually found it not very good sigh posted, it's beautiful so peaceful there's a lovely little cafe the lady who works there is called Gail she's lovely and cooks lovely tasty food, unfortunately no dogs aloud as they have ducks loose and there's people fishing we will be going again
Tough days fishing but I imagine my skill level is to blame for that. Arrow did fish well but it was slow, I think the other anglers struggled too. It was quite busy which I think put quite a lot of pressure on the fish close to the inner bank. Started catching using a method on the far bank which proved much more fruitful. The main chap (Mark I think) was very friendly, really welcoming and seemed genuinely happy to chat. Sandwich was nice and was brought to peg which is a nice touch. The new cabin looks great from afar and you’ve definitely got the right idea as I’ll be able to leave the wife in the hot tub whilst I get on with some angling. I’ve given 5 stars because they deserve it but my only gripe would be that it felt a little busy, everyone rushing in first thing, queuing up and then legging it to the pegs. How can I deduct a star for making the place so popular though!
Thanks to the team. Will certainly be back again.

Needs to add more fish to the venue
Had been meaning to pop in on a cycle route for a while as I had heard good things about the place. Decided to go for the 'Minnow' breakfast as we were mid-route but it was more than enough. All items were of a good quality, well cooked and presented. I would recommend to anyone looking for a local well-cooked breakfast offering. Will definitely be going back. Good car parking if you just feel like popping in.
Fished last Saturday for first time I only live 3 miles from the hidden Jem well worth a visit constantly catched all day peg 4 on match pool in-between the 2 islands even both rods went at same time luckily had a nice chap next to me help lovely place quiet plenty of action all day long pick of best carp had 15 carp in 5 hours lost 4 well done Chorley springs nice place indeed
It was my first time fishing here. I couldn't fault it at all.. the pools and surrounding area are well kept, very clean. Nice level slabbed pegs. Caught plenty of fish all good strong fighting fish. Even the smaller ones were full of power. Will definitely be my new regular fishery. Very helpful and friendly owners too.

Our first visit to Chorley Springs will not be our last!
The parking at Top pool was a few yards away from the pool. We chose our pegs & settled in to see what the day would bring, we didn't expect much as it had been a very cold night. However the sun was shining and after a short while my husband started catching.
I had to wait nearly 90 minutes but was not disappointed when I caught a nice Carp, quickly followed by a Bream.
Paul the owner came round & introduced himself to us making us feel very welcome. He told us all about Chorley Springs I must say it's a credit to him, He has only been here a few years and had made lots of improvements. It is a wonderful relaxing place with lots of birdsong.
We had a great day with a decent amount of fish
There are 5 pools and we went to look around after we had finished fishing. There is something for everyone here. I highly recommend it.

Lovely friendly fishery. Needs smaller fish removing so the big girls can grow. Owner is sorting it. Weed was high but owner is sorting this out as well. This is an ideal water for a large social toilet and shower on site. Needs a bit more rat poison and that’s sorted
Held our wedding at the Roman Lakes a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic. The guests loved the relaxed feel of the place.
We went back today as they were holding an "Open Day". They're still not fully open since covid but will be holding more events to invite the public back in to the park.
Had a lovely walk round today. Had a brew and some food and fed the ducks!
We love it here, paul the owner is a great guy and very welcoming and friendly. His dog Dave is a great hit with the visitors.
The food is always freshly cooked and so far we have always been pleased with what we have chosen.

Brilliant day on the bank at Cuttle Mill, really friendly and relaxed venue even with its steeped history. Plenty of space on the pegs and plenty of water to fish as it’s not pressured due to limiting the anglers to 8. Alan was really helpful and we can’t wait to go again. Thanks
Absolutely my new go to fishing spot! They have different pools with different method rules, catching is thick and fast and the guy who owns/runs it is brilliant. He is hands on, helps everyone out and makes you feel at home! Love this place ❤

Fished a 24hr session on this venue last night for the first time in over 10 years. The venue is superbly kept. Lake grace has recently been drained and re-contoured so I fished Jac. The pegs are great with space for bivvy and rods together. Would recommend this venue to all!
Nice place to stop by and slow down, we had some takeaway snacks from the tearooms which were nice (the egg and bacon roll was particularly appreciated in the cold!)

The road to get here is a little bumpy but there is a car park. You can access the mill excavation area and garden house nearby from here.
