Friendly, dedicated animal loving staff, who really care about animals and who work hard to help them.
We enjoyed our visit here. The sanctuary is spread over a couple of acres, so good weather is definitely a bonus. You will be outdoors, so be sure to dress appropriately. All the paddocks have wheelchair accessible paths. There is a nice cafe with good seating areas both inside and out, all of which are wheelchair accessible. There are toilets outside with steps, but those in the cafe are at ground level.
I would like to have seen more people on hand to explain the project and give personal details of the animals. All detail is via signage that is difficult to relate to the animals in the paddocks. All in all, it's a nice family visit which will take up approximately 1 to 2 hours.

Lovely experience, seeing the hard work the donkey sanctuary does. Not quite a day out, but a nice afternoon adventure meeting all the donkeys.
So sad to learn that one of your staff ,she is not lover of animals at all!
I had shocking experience a while ago when she had tried to hit my dog as he was just friendly running to her , how such people get even employed as a vets???!

This is a truly amazing find. Free to go in, free parking, friendly staff, very clean toilet facilities.

Had a brilliant time on an otter experience. The keepers are really friendly and obviously really care about every animal there. They're really patient and talk you through every step. Playing tug with the otters and feeding them was really good fun and they are properly cute. Would recommend it to anyone.
It's a great place for a small visit. Otters are very entertaining, and watching butterflies is a fun thing to do. There is a place to have some drinks,cake and ice cream. I definitely recommend this place
This is a great place to get your next best friend. The people here are very knowledgeable and helpful. They are an independent charity so if you get the chance go to one of the regular sales or open days. You can also volunteer as a dog walker. Good way to help out and get some exercise.
Not impressed. Staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. I have visited many centres around the country who were lovely and dedicated to dogs. Sadly not the case here, avoid. Seems to be a high staff turnover here too
I highly recommend this place. The only place I know to be free to get in and park !! I put in a big donation though as they need all customer support to help survive all their 109 donkeys!! Such a lovely place to come and stroll and have some lunch with a great cafe and shop. Will definitely be back and would even volunteer myself if I ever lived on the island!
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. Our son was excited to see the otters, and whilst they were fun to watch I must say that it is the butterfly farm that is the star here. A wall of humid air hits you as you walk inside the large greenhouse and once you de-mist your glasses you find yourself surrounded by butterflies of sizes and colours you didn’t know existed. The circular path and the two bridges are wheelchair accessible and afford plenty of nooks and crannies to spot the residents. I genuinely could have stayed there all afternoon.
As delightful as our party found this attraction it should be mentioned that Buckfast is an objectively small zoo; children may find their attention drifting after 30 minutes or so.

Such a fantastic team. Spent time volunteering with a colleague, and it was awesome. It's run so well by a professional, friendly and passionate team.
This was a spur or the moment visit but well worth it. The butterfly’s are in a large enclosure that you can walk around and you will also so some other friends such as fish and turtles.
The otters were outside and you could see lots of breeds, each having their own enclosure. We luckily made it for the 4pm feed and it was cool watching the otters have their dinner.
With reasonable prices to get in, you will have a great day out here.

Great shared experience with the grandkids. So many different butterflies. A bit hard to catch with camera, but with patience you will succeed. Very tropical (hot) inside. The otters were also a great learning opportunity. Recommend!
Dog boarding.
These guys are our venue of choice for dog boarding.
They're lovely people and our two-year-old Huntaway Charlie absolutely loves it here... As soon as we pull in he's excited to get out of the car, and he doesn't look back when heading inside.

Great wildlife centre who I've called twice for wildlife . Came straight out for my vixen I been feeding for few years and she last few weeks she wasnt in a good state .I will find out soon what treatment she has had or put to sleep as she an old girl. I've also been to the open days and they do a fantastic job . I'm a massive lover of wildlife since a child and all domestic animals . I recommend this place .
We adopted a dogs trust dog 8years ago he was a 1year old jack Russell from ireland.we went there after it opened and two weeks later we were able to bring him to his forever home,he was called Dinky,but he is now known as champ.we also had a border called honey but she became ill and passed Feb 2023,we missed her terribly and it took a year before we could even think about getting champ a new friend,alas dogs trust have changed the way they re-home.as I understood it you now fill in forms and they try to pair you with a dog they think will sute you,we now have bought a puppy border whom is just 3months old ,hard work.
My partner and I booked the experience and it certainly did not dissapoint. We had the lovely Sophie as our keeper for the day and she was very knowledgeable about the otters and explained the differences between the different species they had at the sanctuary. She also had some lovely stories about each otter and the naughty things they get up too. We were able to sit in with the small family of otters and hand feed them. We were also able to hold hands with the larger family of otters through a window in the enclosure. Honestly made my year. If you have a love of otters, or nature in general, I would highly recommend paying them a visit. The experience was arranged around the otters feeding times and it was totally up to them if they interacted with us or not. I really did feel the otters needs were put before ours (as they should be). Thank you Sophie and team for a wonderful experience I'll never forget.
Friendly staff and plenty of car parking! 🅿️ lots of donkey. I visited with 12months baby she love the donkey. we had a fun. if you visit only for donkey will take 30-60min should be enough. they have very good cafe as well.

Visited this morning with our two working Cocker Spaniels to check the facilities available as we are looking for a place to board them for a long weekend at the end of April. The owner of our previous kennels where they were always made very welcome and all facilities were open for inspection has sadly finally retired.
Parking impossible as all spaces full so parked up the road and walked back to find one person on reception with a very disinterested attitude. We asked if it was possible to see the boarding kennels and received a short “No”. When asked why we were told it was because there were a lot of dogs for rehoming wandering about.
As we would not be happy to leave our dogs somewhere we had not seen as to do this we would be very irresponsible owners. We therefore asked if we could make an appointment to look round at a different, more convenient time, the answer was again an abrupt “No”.
Perhaps they should concentrate on the rescue side of their business and leave boarding for people who have nothing to hide and want to be helpful for new customers.

Examining procedure for rehoming a dog. DT Basildon located literally just off A127 roundabout at Basildon. Operation appears professional and efficient however initial application process is lengthy and time consuming so it is imperative on first visits not to see a dog that may be ideal for you - very likely it will have found a home by the time your journey begins.....

First of all this place is run by true legends and they do so much to care for these lovely animals. It’s such a wonderful place to visit and it’s been amazing the last few years see it go strength to strength. If you’re an animal lover it’s a must visit.
The cafe here is absolutely fantastic too with amazing food at reasonable prices.

They have a field you can rent for half an hour so your dog can run around safely off the lead. You need your book and I am scheduled to go next week but think it will be good for my dog. This is also a dog rescue company who do amazing work with the animals
Ah the donky sanctuary. What a place, if you like donkeys. Luckily I do. Some are sociable. They do a good coffee too. I brought the obligatory soft toy donkey but the shop has a lot of donkey related merchandise. Free entry! Parking limited on our visit but I'm sure they could open up extra if there's not been too much rain!
Rehomed a puppy today from Teckles. Amazing service from everyone I met there. The dogs and cats are cared for so well. If you want a cat or dog, I highly recommend going there.
This animal shelter dont seem to care to much about animals when it comes to rehoming your animal, I tried to rehome my dog after being in a difficult situation for months on end due to medical reasons at home. I took the dog in to be rehomed as planned by the shelter. When we got there the dog was unsettled due to new surroundings and he growled and barked at the member of staff who was meant to be rehoming him and then she point blank refused to rehome him at the shelter and suggested we just put him down. He’s only a year old. Our experience with this shelter was a complete waist of time. They would rather put your animals down than give them a chance.

I started Volunteering as a dog walker here, all the Staff are really helpful and they work amazingly hard round the clock with all the dogs in mind as their first and foremost priority! I've grown a passion for these dogs and the work that's involved in their care, rehabilitation, training etc. Ignore any negative comments and go see for yourselves, all the Staff are very friendly and will answer any questions you may have. After reading the negative comments here I question weather some people should even consider owning a dog because if you can get yourself worked up and stew on things long enough to then go away and write a negative comment your probably also going to hold a grudge on a dog far to long after an incorrect behaviour rather than letting it go! Dogs live in the here and now not 10 minutes later!
Highly Recommend visiting if you are thinking of offering a forever home to a rescue dog and will love them and you have the time and patience for them!
Don't take it to heart if you like the look of a dog but for any reason it's not a good match, they are not fashion accessories and the last thing anyone wants is for them to end up back in rescue because it didn't work out.

Very poor experience indeed. I can't give less than 1 but I would. Regardless of when you apply by completing their form really just depends on how early you arrive when they open, so completing my form in November meant those ahead of me to get parked who hadn't completed their forms till today 30/12/ 23 were ahead in the queue a very poor process. My donations will be going elsewhere, I will be going for a puppy viewing tomorrow as I have no intention of facing what other hoops they have to prevent rehoming, such as my garden fence is only 5ft 6 and not 6ft. 4 dogs in 42 years, and 2 of them were at the same time, is all the evidence I need to know I'm a good dog owner, don't need the flawed judgements or skills of this place - give it a wide berth.
Update Got an amazing little Jack Chi on New Year's Eve, vet happy with him, almost ready to go out walking, no hassle, no forms, happy dog, happy us. Feel so sad for the poor dogs who need rehoming at Stokenchurch.

The sanctuary has improved alot since I was last there. There are new spacious cages and work on the grounds. It was cold day when I went but was pleasantly surprised to see the animals outside.
There is a small cafe on site and considering its size had a varied menu. Will be going for another visit when it's warmer!!

Love these guys - always get the feeling that they really care for their charges, and have even overheard a conversation or two that confirms how willing they are to go the extra mile and make sure that those staying with them are happy and healthy.
Clean and tidy, dog in good condition, but very over weight
Such a wonderful place, I took 2 baby pigeons that I found under the bridge, they looked after them and few months later they informed to tell me they were ready to be released, such a wonderful place , I am so grateful, thanks a million
The best animal’s experience we ever had! We absolutely loved it, the staff are amazing , they otters are so beautiful and friendly, we fed them as well with a member of the staff showing us how to do and explain everything about this gorgeous creatures! Thank you for this incredibile experience, highly recommended to anyone who wants to have a special day with animals. We will come back soon !

Lovely place, friendly staff, super helpful in the adoption process, giving us all the details that we needed as well as even having our little Crouton back for her second jabs and neutering later on. Would definitely rehome from here again!
I was walking with my friend along the river in Leatherhead on Tuesday 28th November. We saw a fox with a plastic jar stuck on its face. We called Leatherhead Wildlife aid and I stayed by the fox that was weakening and fell by the brambles. Hayley waited for help to arrive in the car park near by….They were brilliant and rescued the fox and pulled the jar off its face. I can’t seem to get an update so if anyone has any information about the fox surviving and being released back I would appreciate it.
In June 2020 I adopted my sweet cat from Four Paws. We’ve stayed in touch since then and I wholly support them and their rescue/adoption efforts. Check out their Amazon wish list if you want to help the kitties. Great people working to help cats!
We've just adopted two kittens from Teckels and have been so impressed with the place. The staff are so caring and kind and talk you through the whole process. We've always adopted our pets and I can honestly say Teckels is the best rescue centre we've ever been to. I'm happy to recommend them to anyone and am extremely grateful to them for bringing our beautiful girls into our lives.
I don't recommend this place for the animal or for the human who is unfortunate enough to take it there. Expect the animal to be put to sleep and for a lecture on how cruel you've been in helping the poor thing in the first place and how ignorant and stupid you were. Expect to have your soul crushed and leave in tears wishing you had never gone there. Without exaggeration my partner was so traumatised by taking his rescue bird there today that we are currently in casualty with suspected heart attack. A complete lack of human empathy is hardly a good way to go about getting donations Shame on you Jackie.
I love the animal sanctuary and am a regular visitor. They have an incredible group of animals rescued and rehomed from different places, some who had horrible past experiences, but are clearly well cared for now. There are interesting little talks through the day as the animals are fed. It's also great to be able to watch some of the animals online on the webcams on the sanctuary website.
Anyone with WWII interest can see one of the PLUTO pumps which supported the DDay landings and has been refurbished and is now hosted in the old battery.

My wife and I collected the latest addition to our Family yesterday. It's been an absolute pleasure dealing with SDR and have found the whole process easy. Quick but thorough and all the staff we dealt with polite & helpful. Special thanks to Pete & Nicola for all their efforts. Our new arrival has settled in nicely! I would 100% recommend SDR. From start to finish they have been professional & friendly and have always had the Dogs interest at the forefront of the decisions made to allow us to adopt. Thanks guys. C&R
Dropped off several items after our guinea pig passed away. Easy way to donate items. Lovely lady in the charity shop showed me where the donations shed was. Very efficient system.
Excellent place to take the children. We were super lucky to see everything. Reasonably priced and you get free entry to come again. Downside is you have to pay for parking which is an extra cost as the sanctuary do not own the car park. They have a small gift shop which is reasonable and they have a cafe. The cafe is quite small and could do with being bigger. People couldn't find a table for lunch it was that busy. Not a very large selection on the menu either.
The sanctutuary is lovely to wlak around quite big with so many animals to see. The talks are great and very interesting. We saw lions, tigers, monkeys, Meercats, wallabies, farm animals, lemurs and much more. They also had a reptile bit. Everything was well sign posted and easy to get to.
The playground was amazing my daughter loved it. With slides and swings! It's a great size with lots for children to do.

If you return within one week of purchasing your ticket, you can come back for only 1 pound! We were lucky enough to be here during their Halloween festivities, which they did an amazing job of decorating the grounds and putting on a fun trail for the kids that included arts and crafts! Our 4 year old loved this! Even on non-holidays, they have a fun sheet for your child to fill out as they walk around and bring back for a surprise.

Goose has settled in brilliantly drives his new big brother Zeus up the wall sometimes 😂but they get on great has put on weight gone up two notches on his collar he’s such a loving dog and clean I really think he’s really enjoying living with us has much has we enjoy him

I would like to say a huge thank you and just say you are amazing people and do an amazing job. After seeing Curtis's photo we knew he was 'the one' we called them and was given same day appt. When we went to the kennels we met Dee and her staff who were all very caring and helpful. We instanstly bonded and couldnt wait to get him home. The staff were sad to see him go and all waved him off. We've renamed him Rocky and as the pictures show his made himself at home already and is going to be loved by us all x
Absolutely amazing. We were on an experience day where we fed the tigers and were also keepers for the day. The staff were brilliant and so friendly. I definitely recommend a visit, the animals are so well loved and cared for and we will definitely be going back to see the tigers we adopted
This is a small cat rescue charity. The ladies who run it are so loving and caring and they are passionate about cats! You couldn’t meet nicer people and they rescue cats that have been taken to them for a variety of reasons. They look after them, arrange vet treatment if needed and get them ready to hopefully find their forever home. They regularly fundraise and they are a truly wonderful charity.
Amazing charity, takes so much care for the cats that come into their homes until they get adopted. Lots of fundraising is done with all profits going to the cats. Have had Biskit 11 years from four paws. Great Charity.

Worst place I have ever been in my life. Dee and other employees were extremely rude and have no customer care at all. You are better off going to another kennel

Came in and gave a donation. Wasn't allowed to see or talk to anyone about the dogs. It's all done online now, so this wasn't helpful. So I went home and look online where there is minimal information about the dogs available. You have to fill out application forms, then you get an e-mail to say if your suitable. Sadly I'm not suitable for Luna because she isn't cat friendly and I have a cat. If this basic information was online then this would make things easier. Saves a lot of messing about with forms ect. No wonder dogs aren't being re-homed very easily. I will seek a dog that I can easily get information on
Amazing experience here today! We had a lovely time seeing all of the animals and knowing they are now happy and safe here rather than where some of them were previously.

The entire team here have been fab, not sure how the negatives are justified from people. We saw our girl still on the site a few weeks later after the initial spot and I decided to go see her the next day not knowing if they have a hold on her or not and I think about 4 families turned up all to look at dogs with just two handlers available to do meets so if your not getting a response it's not because there ignoring you there really busy working there butt's off!

We arrived at lunch time, paid our £3 to park for the day then paid the £59 to get in (2 adults 3 children)

However I must say the walk in dome enclosure was brilliant and that good we went it twice.

We had a wonderful visit. The Sanctuary (definitely not a zoo!) is well run by passionate and interesting staff. A good range of talks over the day, and the additional cost meerkat experience was well worth it. A very enjoyable day
We got a kitten from Four Paws back in 2011, who sadly died in May. We have recently adopted an adult cat, Jack. Everyone at Four Paws was so kind and helpful, and it has been a great experience. He came to us with pet insurance for four weeks, an adoption pack and clear instructions for caring for him. Highly recommended.
Dogs Trust found my lovely Charlie for me. He had some problems as he is very nervous and they were extremely helpful. Charlie is much less anxious now and is the sweetest little dog.
I adopted Nutty from Four Paws a few weeks ago, and highly recommend them. They provided as much information as they had on her previous medical history, she came with a signed contract and rehoming guide, and Julie, Donna and Teresa have been available to answer any questions as well as changing her microchip to my name free of charge. Five paw service from Four Paws!
One day, I noticed that one of the wood pigeons who come to my garden looked sick and kept seeking my help (I know how this sounds, I’m very cynical about these sort of things but he kept coming to the patio, close to the house, which he never did before, and every time I went out to try and catch him he’d eventually get scared and fly away only to return back to my patio, again and again). Anyway, I caught the pigeon and took him to this Wildlife centre (the local vet who refused to help him suggested it). He had canker. I told the wildlife centre that I’d like to release him back in my garden when he got well. Eight weeks later they called me to go pick him up.
This was a couple of months ago.
Since then, he’s happy in my garden and got a bit fat. He also got married 😀. Here’s a photo taken 30 mins ago with pigeon and his wife. He’s the one in the bird bath ❤️.

Very good advice and care for dogs in need of homes. Follow up from Dogs Trust aswell once you have your dog home making sure all is well. Any issues arises then they will give you and even come out if need to be to see dog in his new home.

The staff were incredibly helpful, kind and compassionate. They do amazing work and deserve all the praise and support in the world for the work they do. I adopted an 11 year black & white cat from Four Paws Cat Rescue and he's been a wonderful companion since the day he arrived.
We adopted Daisy yesterday. The Teckels team is caring and knowledgeable. The post adoption support offered is very good to know we can call on if needed.
We have recently rescued a lovely dog from this centre. The staff are lovely and do try hard to match the right fog to the right owner. Just go and take a look at the gorgeous dogs still looking for homes. If you are not wanting to take on a dog then all donations of duvet, towels etc welcome as well as any dog foods. Of course if you live near by and want to get fit then there is always volunteer dog walking.
Did an IMDT dog training course here over a week with some of their dogs. The dedication, professionalism of the staff is astounding, vets onsite, training and enrichment of the animals is fantastic. Fell in love with Jasper the loving, fun boy. Bruce the Great Dane Mally cross, Taz the gorgeous older staffie. Kato & Poppy the bonded husky cross & Ambull need their forever home together. Looking for your forever companion this is the place to go!!
I cannot express how amazing this dog rescue center is. Yesterday I took home a beautiful boy called Stan who is a lurcher mix. He has been nothing but amazing and I couldn't have imagined or expected anything more from him He's the most gentle, loving, passive, calm boy. Everything from meeting him initially to adopt yesterday has been the most amazing experience and a credit to the Stokenchurch dog rescue centre. Everyone who I spoke to was fantastic. Stan is doing amazingly well already and seems very happy here. Thank you all, you're amazing.
My husband and I were looking to rescue a dog and were recommended Ardley Rescue Kennels by a friend. Though I had seen the rescue in Google searches before, I overlooked them because they don’t advertise the dogs on their website. Boy was that a mistake, as they are the loveliest rescue in Oxfordshire! We were able to find the perfect pup and we couldn’t love him more! The whole team is great and we met lots of sweet pups on our visit. They also gave us everything we needed to help get our sweet boy settled into our home. Would certainly recommend calling them and setting up an appointment to meet their lovely dogs.
We wanted to give a forever home to another cat having lost our previous one to a very nasty tumour. Four paws were absolutely brilliant and they checked us out to make sure we were suitable for Tippy and then sorted everything out for us. Can't praise them enough for the work they do.
Dee was very friendly and the dogs obviously lived her. They looked very well cared for. The large number of volunteer dog walkers all seemed happy, friendly and knew the dogs well. Alas I wasn't able to find a suitable dog this time but will happily vist again.
This lady is the most foul mouthed individual I have ever met, I took on 2 rescue dogs from her 2 yrs ago which has turned into a nightmare with one of them with his aggresive behaviour towards dogs he doesn't know. She failed too mention this when we took them on and we are the fifth home they have had. In trying to get this dog rehomed ardley rescue greeted us with a barrage of obuse over the phone. Avoid dealing with these people
I was redoing the floor in my shed and found a nest with a mother mouse and two newborn babies. Phoned up wildlife aid, they weren't able to give advice straight away as they had an open day and were very busy. I later received a voicemail with instructions on exactly what to do to allow the mouse mum to safely relocate herself and her babies. Very pleased, thank you for the advice wildlife aid!

Wallace kennels have shown the most professional service in placing their kennelled dogs in the right homes. Dee and Andy helped me to find my dog that I shall cherish forever. Monte my dog has improved in leaps and bounds to reach his full potential as a loving pet dog and I remain indebted to Wallace Kennels. Thank you, Dee and Andy and Monte send his best wishes.
About 12 years ago, we took home Paddy the English Springer Spaniel from your kennels. He was manic, frantic and squeaked all the time. He ate through the electrics in both our cars, escaped at every opportunity and wouldn't come back, amongst many other things. We loved his naughtiness, made him comfortable and used his name every time we addressed him. He walked out with me every day, or went to work with my husband. We never gave up on him and he became a much admired, quiet, obedient dog whom we adored. We said goodbye to him on 31st August, he was about 14 at that time. He had been with us to Europe, all over Britain and always behaved well. He was even admitted to the Bodleian Library at Oxford, as there were no other visitors due to lockdown. Everybody loved Paddy, and we were proud to be his companions. Thank you for letting us take him home. He even had his own quilt.

The whole place is clean and tidy and well laid out, inside and out.
Everyone I dealt with was efficient, friendly and obviously into what the place was ask about.
The ‘charity’ shop in a portacabin in the car park is well stocked with the usual stuff and worth a visit.

Wonderful people and place. After lossing my little dog they found the perfect dog for me. They were thorough with their checks. Gave me everything I needed to get my new companion rehomed. Can not thank them enough for all they did for me. Wonderful people did everything they promised.
We got our 1st family dog from Stockenchurch about 1996 a beautiful Lurcher who chose us. When she sadly passed we got a 6 month old Lurcher Charlie by name Charlie by nature. They are a wonderful rescue and I would highly recommend.
they tell you if you see a dog they have needing rehomed to contact them. so you do. no response. tried ringing several times, no reply. left messages, no reply. emailed. NO REPLY!!! so, please tell me, how are you supposed to rehome their dogs??
Adopted a dog on 1st Sept dee the owner of kennels polite friendly n professional doesn't time limit you yr walk with dog to get to know it and explains everything about yr new pet and answers any questions clearly n well knowledgeable very clean and cheerful kennels and all dogs come with free 4 months pet insurance thankyou to dee and her staff at Wallace
As a former volunteer at Escape I have seen for myself the love and affection Jayne and all her volunteers give to the animals. Some of the animals were mistreated in the past or have been unwanted by their owners. Jayne has given them a home to live out their lives, how lucky they are. Their health and well-being are of the utmost importance.
I cannot recommend this place enough, an amazing bunch of animal lovers like me.

I took it home, let it rest, and then drove to Wildlife Aid that evening where they’ve taken it in and helped save its little life.

Great place to visit, a little pricy but under 3's go free so good for kids! The butterflies are beautiful and the otters are great fun to watch. Only downside is the particularly aggressive selling tactics of a charity hawker made it a little uncomfortable as we couldn't easily escape conversation and there was no way to avoid them. Felt a little weird to pay £40 for tickets and then be guilted into buying a membership to Wildlife Trust. (they're not associated with the sanctuary (I think) so I can't blame them, but it's just off that they're there in the first place)
