Beautiful. Helpful security staff who guided us to disabled parking. Once inside the grounds we enjoyed the beauty of Balmoral. Stunning. Even heard and caught sight of an eagle flying overhead. Visited the cafe and shop. All staff very happy and friendly.

Beautiful grounds and beautiful café in the Mews area. Walk along the river Dee. Walk around the grounds and visit the Highland cows near the cricket grounds. The lawn in front of the of the castle entrance is well manicured.

The castle is very impressive, has a lot of historic significance, you get to stay where the royal family ate and laughed. The gardens are milimetricaly trimmed and everything is arranged.
The castle (outside) and the gardens were free to visit, but we had to pay £5 for the car park.

What a beautiful palace. The King or family were in residence when we visited and we didn't manage to view the actual castle from the inside.

The gardens & grounds are beautiful...as one would expect given it was Queen Elizabeth's favourite place.

The vegetable & flower gardens are beautiful.even in October and the formal grounds are certainly impressive.

What a fantastic day we had here. So much to see and do. The white tower was breath taking and the crown jewels well worth a visit. We love history as a family and this was an amazing day out. We didn't get to see it all so will be returning in the near future.
Very nice place to go with children, encourage ms to learn more about Harry Potter

It is a great experience that nearly requires a day to explore the tower grounds. There is so much to see, do, and learn.
The crown jewels, the ravens, the moat, and the Amory. The history here is so rich. It is more like a castle.

An absolute wonderful experience, we walked along paths that King's, Queens and nobility had walked on before us. The staff are so friendly and helpful with the yeomanry willing to have photos taken whenever required. A must see for anyone interested in history.

We spent 4 hours here today and really enjoyed ourselves. We got the audio guides as well, which gave a bit more detail and saved some of the reading. It's a significant place in history and is a must to when visiting the city. Bring comfortable footwear and be prepared for stairs.
I had an amazing time moving from one beautiful structure to the other in the castle and reliving the history that had taken place in the magnificent Edinburgh Castle. Lovely architecture, beautiful arts, sculptures, and tapestries. Alsohad a great view of the city from the castle. Loved it so much. It was a great experience.

Visited The Tower of London yesterday for the first time, we had bees by on numerous occasions but never been inside. Overall it was an excellent experience, the guided tours are brilliant and the history is everywhere. The was a queue to see the Crown Jewels but it went down really quickly so only took about 15mins. We used our city passes to get in which we’re worth getting as they allow you into loads of attractions once you purchase the passes. We had a busy day planned so only spent about 2 hours inside the tower. I think to see everything thoroughly you need to allow a good 4 hours. Will definitely visit again when we have more time to explore.

Beautiful castle. It has many sections for defense purposes. Now, it mainly is used as museums, Crown Jewel displays, etc. My favorite is the St Margaret Chapel. Of course there are many other great structures, so come find your favorite.

Tower of London

Located: EC1

We loved the Tower of London , has such an interesting history from once being a prison to a Palace and place of execution. Hand built it is absolutely stunning , you can feel the history of London on the grounds.

Light lunch available outside and wheelchair access is limited. There are a large number of steps in the Tower with cobbles pathways and low door ways. Toilets on site.

Must visit 5*****
This is my number one place to visit in London. To be able to walk in and amongst these historical buildings is an experience you should not miss. To do this sore justice you should plan on spending half a day here. There is a cafeteria where they have good food. Don't forget to visit the ravens!
Absolutely, I wholeheartedly recommend visiting Edinburgh Castle if you have the chance. It's a true treasure that combines history, stunning architecture, and breathtaking views in one remarkable location.

Walking through the castle's gates is like stepping back in time. You'll get to explore centuries of Scottish history, from royal residences to military strongholds. Don't miss the Crown Jewels, housed in the Crown Room – they're a true highlight and a testament to Scotland's regal heritage.

And speaking of highlights, the panoramic views from the castle are simply spectacular! You'll be treated to sweeping vistas of Edinburgh and the surrounding landscape, making it an ideal spot for photos and taking in the city's beauty.

Whether you're a history buff, a fan of stunning architecture, or just looking for an unforgettable experience in Edinburgh, this castle has it all.

So, make sure to add Edinburgh Castle to your itinerary when you visit this charming city. It's a place where the past comes to life, and you'll create lasting memories against a backdrop of Scottish history and culture. Enjoy your visit :)
I’ve been inside the castle before, and without doubt they put on a good show so make sure you make time to fit it in.
This time I wanted to walk all around the perimeter of the castle, and what a formidable presence it makes. I wouldn’t have wanted to be one of them attacking.
The steep rock side of the hill and then the stone walls on top make it look impossible.
It was a great walk around and finished again on Princess Street
Lovely Castle in Richmond. The staff are friendly and welcoming.

The castle itself is worth a visit. The restoration work looks good and wondering the grounds were nice. The gardens were nice as well

This was truly magical! My wife and I visited on a beautiful September day. We spent at least three hours there and could have spent the entire day! It's the most spectacularly and meticulously maintained castle site we have ever seen. This is a MUST SEE. And, stick around for the 1pm cannon shot!

Such a great time exploring the history of Edinburgh! Although there was a lot of walking (and stairs), nothing was too strenuous. This is a good family activity.
There were lines to access a few of the buildings, but overall it wasn’t too crowded.

Recommended to purchase tickets in advance! We did the tea experience, which was well worth it and a wonderful break from all of the walking.

Amazing tourist attraction of this wonderful place,it is one of the most visited places nowadays since the Royal Jewels are guarded here. The Royal jewels are amazingly displayed, and the history of them is well explained all along the place. Big queue for the Crown Jewels once you got inside the Tower, but well worth the wait. I suggest everything try to come early in the morning around the 8:30 slot. It will not be crowded at that time. There are lots of things to see inside the tower. The Cafe inside is a great place to take relief. The exit is beside the Thames with awesome views of Tower Bridge.
We thought it will take 2-3 hours but we spend almost 5 hrs. The fortress is maintained properly. The audio guide helps you a lot when you are in. The Ammunition department is amazing.
I will definitely come back to visit them again whenever possible.

A lot in the towers are replicas or facsimiles, but it's still cool to see the history. They did a good job providing examples of how things would have looked with metal figures and similar things. The crown jewels are is pretty elaborate and extensive. Much more so than Scotland. Make sure to visit the Armory to see the history of the armor worn by both kings and military.

Visited the Tower including the Crown Jewels for a private event. It was closed to the general public so there were no queues. You cannot take photos inside, the displays are good and you have large screens display information about some of the history of the jewels. There are several sections inside, the rooms are dimly lit but the displays were nice and bright. Lots of history items of jewellery, arbour and of course replicas of the many crowns and jewels. There are public toilets and a conference room inside with lift access.

While I do think Balmoral Castle is worth a visit, it is important to realize that you are basically paying (a hefty fee!) to visit the beautiful castle grounds. There is very little of the actual castle that you can visit, and in that small ballroom section that you can, you can’t take photos or video. There is (of course) a well appointed cafe and gift shop and clean toilets. There’s a small paid parking lot a short walk from the ticket booth. It’s quite a bit of walking if you want to explore the majority of the grounds so keep that in mind.

Enjoyed a lovely visit, the facilities are much improved and more interactive than a few years ago. There are very interesting exhibitions which are well organised and thought out. The displays recount the history up to the modern day. The way it is presented is engaging and insightful. Some of the displays gave a view into life when the family were travelling and who remains behind, which was interesting and one in such a way that it was engaging with a lighting board depicting this.

At the current time, there is an exhibition showing the use of the castle during the First World War, when conscientious objectors were imprisoned there. This was thought-provoking.

The grounds of the castle are well cared for. There is an impressive keep with views for miles around. There is a shop, cafe and toilets.

Overall, it was a good place to visit. There's parking with a free disc just outside in the marketplace.

I love visiting the Tower of London. It is one of my favourite places for day trips here and I recommend it to anyone visiting London as a must. Whether it's the views, the picture opportunities, or the history, this place has a lot to offer.
I am a member of Historic Royal Palaces, so I can come here for free whenever I want (and I do take advantage of that as well as free visits to Hampton Court Palace)
Nice day out, the audio guide was great, just enough information about each room. The tea room was really good, a good choice of food and homemaking available. We had a quick glimpse of Prince Edward as well when we were there

Big and interesting castle with great views from a very tall tower with an impressive hall partway up. We parked down by the waterfalls which meant a steep walk but no hassle with time limits or silly card wheels. My daughter also enjoyed the Jenga and dressing up as a big bear.

Had a good few hours exploring this fine Norman castle (the first in England?). Took the tour, which was fun and informative, and enjoyed the joy of wandering around a fantastic ruined castle. There's a small shop, and a small museum, and the staff were really well informed and helpful. We had a lovely time, and will visit again.
A sight to behold, it was my first time here and I enjoyed learning the history of this castle while visiting. I loved that they had audio guides which were very helpful while getting around. The cafe had great food selection, it was so crowded there for lunch, I had to wait a long while before I could get food and a table.

It's worth booking the guided tour. Amazing Edwardian interiors, rooms untouched for 100 years. Full of treasures. The grounds are huge and free to walk round, with a Japanese garden and beautiful views down to Crammond Island and across the Forth to Fife.

Stunning views an insightful audio guide. Beautiful castle grounds highly recommend to anyone visiting. Be sure to book ahead as it's fully booked today and seems like it is everyday. My parents were on a British isles cruise few months ago and came the day of hoping to visit but were turned away due to being booked to capacity.
The tickets were included in the royal package of Edinburgh bus tours, we arrived there and they gave us an audio tour guide with headphones, which was very informative and educational. The whole tour took us 3 hours, the palace was marvelous and the garden was beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Shout out to Anne (the gift shop keeper) extremely nice and we enjoyed an uplifting conversation with her.
This is an absolutely amazing place. It is so beautiful and the grounds are spectacular. It was worth every penny to enter. We spent 5 hours walking the grounds and taking it all in. The staff that we interacted with were brilliant. So friendly and eager to tell you all you could want to know. Very informative. Take your time, enjoy, and most of all, just be present.
Great experience. Go early to avoid crowds. No photography inside. Grounds and chapel were beautiful. The audio guide as you walk thru is interesting. Tons of art and history well preserved and on good display. People working the rooms were quick to answer any questions.

One of the best castles I've ever visited. It's like a labyrinth with hidden secrets around every corner. It's easy to spend several hours here in order to see everything on offer.
Halls, museums, an excellent guided tour, dungeons, prison cell reconstructions, the list goes on.
I would strongly advise booking up in advance as it was sold out when I visited and there were long queues with hundreds of visitors.
Visit only if you are interested in royal life. It's a bit overwhelming and surreal inside. The garden is beautiful and worth a look. The view of the Arthur seat is magnificent from the garden. They offer a lift to take the buggy inside but not so kids friendly inside the palace as it's mostly dark and less space to walk.
They provide free audio for a self-guided tour.

It was a wonderful experience and a great place to visit. The history of the place is amazing. It is advisable to take the guided tour as the guide really knows his stuff and gives you some great insights into the history of the place and also gives good advice on what to visit next as the place is a really big place. You really need at least 4 to 5 hours to see the place properly and to learn about the history of the place and to take some lovely pictures. Well worth a visit.

Book tickets in advance as you're not guaranteed entry if you just turn up. The website is easy to use, there are many time slots to choose from and you get a long window to arrive within. This place is truly spectacular and there is so much to see on site that you could spend much longer here than you'll plan for. St Margarets Chapel is small but the stained glass is beautiful. The Crown Jewels are well worth the queue and were the highlight for me until I entered the Scottish National War Memorial building. Absolutely amazing! The Regimental museums and National War museum are glorious, so much information and memorabilia. Be sure to be on time for the one o'clock gun! The Great Hall is fabulous, the ceiling alone! The replicas of Mary Queen of Scots embroideries are exquisite so don't miss those. You'll really appreciate the amount of work that's went into them. There are plenty of toilets around and cafes to stop for coffee and a snack. We spent a good 3 hours here and probably still missed things
An absolutely great day out. You can easily spend the whole day here. You definitely need to book in advance to avoid disappointment. We signed up for Historic Scotland Memberships and it's made visiting the Castle, so much more worthwhile. The value for money with the membership is great, as you get discounts on food and gift shops.

If you like history, this tour will not disappoint. The palace is still used today, but your tour takes you through several rooms of the palace with rich history. An audio guide gives you information as you make your way around. No photos allowed inside the palace m, but outside on the grounds, you are free to take photos. This was a great tour! I highly recommend for all! Buy tickets in advance or at the gate.
This is a working place and the royal family use this place all the time. Has many interesting things to see. The inside state rooms are a very interesting along with many artworks, sculptures etc. however you cannot take pictures inside. The garden at the back is very plain. The cost of entry is high.

Loved the entire place. The audio visual guide takes us through the history. So much to imagine and feel about. Beautifully paintings, tapestries, ceilings so artistically done speaks volumes.
To top it the garden adds beauty. The Abbey completes the whole set up. Totally we get a royal feeling going around.

This was amazing... lots to do for younger ones as well with a trail around the castle and also summer games out on the lawn. Full of history and well preserved. Lovely little shop that sells memorabilia and also cold drinks and snacks. Few benches to sit on as well just outside the castle. Small car park so would recommend getting there early or taking the bus and walking to it. Highly recommend a visit here though.

The castle is mesmerising! The tour guide was excellent. It was interesting to learn about the architecture of the castle and the family which resided in it. The gardens around the castle (the Rose garden and the Japanese garden) are both gorgeous.
This is a must-see attraction when going to Edinburgh. I would recommend buying tickets in advance. I loved this tour so much and it was very well done. Excellent venue for the annual Royal Military Tattoo as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

I’ve attended the Tattoo twice now, several years apart, and it has yet to disappoint as a spectacle of military bands and marching prowess. The coordination involved is incredible, especially at the culmination of the show with the massed pipes and drums.

The castle itself sits ominously over the city centre, being visible for miles around and at several points around city. Several nice walks are available around the grounds and up to the front gates, affording plenty of opportunities for photographers.
One of the more enjoyable castles we visited on our trip. We especially enjoyed coming up through the peaceful woods behind the back of the castle, walking through the stone fence and passing what was the P-shaped lake. The shape of the letter P for the Preston family who owned it at one time. We learned that because of the high taxes, the latest owner may have intentionally removed the roof and filled in the windows so there were fewer taxable living spaces. This is definitely a castle that you don't want to miss.

I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this old castle. Some low points though were the unsupervised children running and jumping around the ruins which were slippery and it was also causing unnecessary damage to the castle ... their parents were there but not supervising. The views are amazing and I could not believe how close to the city this piece of history is.

Admission was a little steep but totally worth it. We paid under £30 per person, but it varies by date and what website you purchase through. We bought tickets in person and not in advance.

As soon as we walked in there was a beefeater starting a complimentary tour. He was very funny and informative, and explain the history of the castle and the surrounding areas with a lot of detail given to the history of executions here.

There is also an audio tour available at an additional cost.

We left his tour to go explore by ourselves and we saw the king's Chambers which were fascinating and included a marker in the chapel where King Henry VI was assassinated. Awesome. There were active guards marching around who still live inside the castle.

Actors were doing a play in the courtyard by the White Tower. There were plenty of bathrooms and a couple of cool gift shops.

You could easily spend three or more hours here.

As with most attractions in the city, parking could be a problem but we did not have a car.

Went into the Castle to see Richmond from the top of the tower. Great views of the town! The Castle was worth a visit plenty of nooks and crannies to explore! Only negative point was in the rooms in the tower there are pigeons flying around inside, you can expect that as the doorways and windows are open spaces but they could sweep the floorboards as they have a lot of bird muck to avoid walking in! But still an enjoyable visit!

The castle & it’s current exhibit upstairs are clearly very well thought out.

The information dotted around the castle grounds was easy to understand, comprehensive and helpful.

The staff were sweet & attentive, were sure to check that we had had a good time. The gift shop is nice, classically for a gift shop it’s a bit expensive but has lots of nice items.

I will definitely be visiting again!
This place is definitely has to be visited. Even if to walk around, there is a lot of space, fields and beautiful nature. The castle itself is not huge from outside, but it is truly a part of the history. And there is a lovely cafe to have a rest and some sweet snack.

Never imagined the place to be this beautiful. One might not find this place in the tourist places list of Edinburgh, but trust me, it's a place worth visiting 💯
The photos I have shared are unedited, so you can see the real beauty (just fyi, it's not an Iphone 🤪)
Great castle to explore because there are so many stairwells and rooms to visit it really helps your feel how they would have loved in it. Our kids had the best time finding all the nooks and crannies of every room. Parking lot is small.

Growing up close to the castle and being a place of different quality. Outskirts , silverknowes, and no local bus take you close enough for comfortable travels to the castle itself. But , thankfully, having been invited by our community toddler group. Stepping stones. For an event within the grounds of the castle. The castle overs a cafe and cakes. And views of Cramond, etc. Japanese Garden offers another tranquil space to do what you do best. Dogs are welcome , please clean up after your dogs. And be mindful of your dogs behaviour towards excited children too. Carpark is available, small but there. And public toilets around from main castle. Please again clean up after yourself and be mindful of all others who need to use the public toilets too.

Another castle in Edinburgh. Even though it’s not famous like Edinburgh castle, it’s still a good place to visit if you are a castle lover. Mary queen of Scotland was once imprisoned here, so there are many rooms here that are associated with her.
It’s well preserved, so visitors can get to 80% of rooms in castle. Visitors can also have access to the highest place in the castle, where they can have a good view of their surroundings.
I visited the day after the snow had stopped. The whole castle was covered with snow and had a quiet and mysterious beauty. Highly recommended.

A short 10 minute walk from the chapel. The castle isn't much, some ruins, but the geography is interesting as the valleys are deep. There is a private residence beyond the gate ruins so you cannot go there. But it's nice anyway. A must visit if you're visiting the chapel. Not so much on its own.

I loved every second of this place, due to our flight we booked the last ticket of the day and we didn't get to see everything we wanted to see so I suggest booking an earlier ticket of the day, I know at 1 o'clock they fire guns which would be cool to see. Also there was a lot of people being turned away because they sell out of tickets so be sure to book them in advance. The Scotland crown jewels were impressive and the war memorials were moving.

10/05/22, on the same day that I visited The Chapel.

Wow, this castle, which is just a 10mins walk from Rosslyn Chapel, is just stunning.

You need to see the structure under the castle, the strength of it, in creating the entrance to the castle and the building work is phenomenal.

I liked the location of the ruins, the view from afar. The surrounding woodland is excellent for a hike. There is a stream nearby and the place is great for children to run around or for a walk with a dog. However, due to steep hills and slippery slopes not recommended for disabled or people with walking problems.

A lovely place to visit. Make your way down to the river and explore, could have spent the week there! Found two pairs of Dippers to watch.

Fantastic castle ruins surrounded by an idyllic natural landscape. The castle is very easy to reach and there are many paths within Roslin Glen Country Park and along the river to explore the surrounding.

Nice Castle
Edinburgh Castle is one of the best attractions in Scotland. Although you are not history person you can still enjoy some of the best views of the city from the top of the castle. There are different view points at various stages to look the beautiful city which is mix of traditional rocky buildings with new buildings in the mix. We have lot museums and movie shows with a lot of items from world war 2 and British colonial history captured and documented. Be prepared to walk a lot but there are lot of places to sit, relax and take nice photos. Crown jewels is the place which is too much crowded with a lot of wait time which we Didn't visit. But if you want cover everything going all places and taking photos you need good 4-5 hours. There are toilet facilities. The road up to the entrance of castle is so alive and when we visited there is Tattoo festival in the evening so it is much more busier. The royal mile outside of castle has lot of activities with wonderful artists playing music that is so lovely. It was great experience with stunning views from the castle. If you are visiting in a bus or car only allowed time up hill was until 5 PM, afterwards you need to walk down hill for about 10-15 minute for vehicle pick up points.
