I can genuinely say this gym has always felt like a welcoming, comfortable space.

Firstly, a big thank you to Ludo, the manager, who has consistently kept everything running smoothly and always been approachable. The team members make such a difference: Dan and August create a friendly, positive atmosphere that really stands out, while June and Marco are always warm and welcoming at the front desk. Weronika’s classes are always fantastic, and Henrique and Irvin are always there to offer helpful advice on the gym floor. Even the new staff members like Mark and Riz always show a positive welcoming vibe.

For anyone looking for a central London gym with a warm, friendly environment and a supportive team, I can’t recommend Fitness First Strand enough. Many of us have been here for years, and it’s truly the people and atmosphere that keep us coming back.

It was a pretty amazing experience, the staff were completely helpful especially one of the managers Hussein who showed me around the gym and took the time to answer my questions about specific machines and what they are used for. All in all friendly staff, good clean equipment, a great atmosphere as well as a good price. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

This gym is conveniently located with fairly good equipment. The real pull is the sauna and steam room that’s great for relaxation after a workout. There are free towels but I wish there were toiletries available like there are at cheaper gyms. All around good though.
That's the first time I've been to the competition at Special Olympics last Sunday. I did really well with Athletics and including relays. Love it!
Today 11/10/2024 was the best session in sauna steam and the machine was working exactly how a steam sauna are supposed to work. Constant steam at a very good pace and temperature. Slowly building up and enjoyable 15-20 min session. Don't change the variables and conditions on the machine.
Still using a COVID booking-in system and saying it's for knowing who's in the gym, but the new fancy clocking-in machine at the entrance doesn't tell them that, is absolutely ridiculous.

Great gym - has a good range of equipment for both the upper and lower body. The changing room is very spacious and clean.

The big downside however is the men's sauna. The temperature is never hot - in fact, it not even warm! Really hope it gets fixed soon. Then I can give the gym 5 stars!

Just signed up at a Fitness First Strand and I am very pleased with the experience I have had
so far. Gym is spacious and staff is friendly especially Ludo who was very kind and explained to me all the different membership options and benefits ! I mostly use free weight area but you also get classes included and free body composition scans.
First time I’ve been well equipped with friendly staff not busy at 8:00am
so basically i’m 14 and this lady told me saying i can’t go downstairs because of my age because there is no one there on duty and i have to go upstairs but i don’t feel comfortable going upstairs and she is like i’m going to cancel your membership like it’s not my fault if there is not a person on duty and if i get hurt i’m responsible for it i’m paying them and i’ve been going for 3 months now and no one told me suddenly this lady told me i can’t go downstairs because of my age.
It's not too bad here. Most of the teachers are fab, but the only 3 things I can fault is that No.1- On numerous occasions I'm witnessing a particular swimming teacher who appears as though she doesnt want to be there. (Not sure whether grade 2 or 3) but she doesn't appear to want to be there, doesn't smile, it's quite off-putting to be honest. She walks up and down, not really focusing on the children, but more focused on the other staff members/teachers.
No.2 - The cleanliness of the swimming bath changing rooms, it absolutely stinks of urine & sweat and there's always dirty marks up the cubicle walls and hair on the floor, perhaps a good clean after each class would be good!
No.3 - Reception staff, need to smile and show respect to those that come in / need assistance, your on the front desk, face of the company, it makes the leisure centre look really back and unapproachable :( smile please!!!

“I recently visited this gym and was really impressed by how clean and organized everything was. The equipment was well-maintained, and the overall layout made it easy to navigate through the space. One of the standout aspects was the staff, especially Irene, who was very hands-on and attentive. She made sure I felt comfortable and was always available to help out. A great place to work out with a welcoming and professional vibe!”
It's a great local gym which has recently been renovated. The only issue is the disabled lift which has been out of order for about a year.
Took my daughter swimming with fun and floats on a saturday and it was really good... Tonnes of fun. Booked online really easy to do with the app and quite cheap too 😁
Took my grandchildren to the pool here, they loved it especially the jumping diving boards.
Will be going back soon.

We worked out here for the first time and it was amazing. Well equipped, great atmosphere and the staff was very helpful. August was welcoming us and showed us around and was incredibly helpful, definitely would come again!
Lovely gym, not only as different good equipment but other room for meetings too. We had a meeting organised by pain management and a good size room with tables and chairs, including a projectors.
Hope to see the rest of the gym next time!
Good modern gym, clean pool and changing areas steam room and sauna good too, staff are friendly and helpful and the regulars who use it are too, also love the online booking system, small soft play area too for the little 1 only costs £2 over all good experience since coming.

DO NOT GO THERE IF YES YOU HAVE A DISABLED CHILD. it is not disability friendly and staff are not trained for children with autism and ADHD even though they say they are. Had problem with some of the staff telling me to get in the pool with my autism child because my daughter who is with him at all times I case he runs she has a chance to get him to stop running into the deep pool and if she doesn’t get him I can because I’m not in the pool and able to catch him before he goes into the deep pool and causes danger for himself . The staff were ignorant of my child’s needs and gave us dirty looks because they are lazy and don’t want to do anything they looked at me and my daughter differently and felt discriminated and not welcomed definitely not a place that is friendly towards others and staff some hateful of people with disability. WILL NOT RETURN and manager made them group up about my child because he has autism very discriminative.
I love this place nobody looks a you in a strange way apart from some encounter in sauna. The gym looks amazing with this dark theme. You can also bring a family free of charge for family swim on Saturdays or Sundays it's very clean there's always staff cleaning. It does smell a little as it's quite compact but overall much happier here then in my previous gym
Used the hotel leisure facilities. Staff were helpful and polite on arrival. Gym was clean with modern equipment that was well maintained. Pool, steam room and sauna were all clean and available to use. Changing rooms were clean and tidy. Had a very positive experience

This gym has allowed to many memberships so it is far to busy. Only one smith in entire gym, means I have been able to use it once in a few weeks. Friday, the toilets were out of order and there was no warning or apology. Twice I used the toilet and it hasn’t flushed. The towels are thread bare. A towel i had last week was stained. Also the air conditioning is broken, which I have reported. My email has been acknowledged but it has not been fixed.
Great set up...has everythin. Staff are lovely. Jenny who leads the classes, is brilliant.
I have been a member at this gym for almost a year and have found the staff to be polite, helpful and very knowledgeable. For me, Victoria's RPM and Sprint classes are the best spin classes I've attended over the past 15 or so years. Her energy and ability to motivate and push you beyond your comfort zone is a special quality. The music is awesome too and there's a real team vibe to her classes. No better start to the day (7am!!). I've also had the pleasure of the odd coffee with some lovely members. Keep up the great work.

Super nice gym. Was in London on holiday and August hooked it up!! Nice clean facility. Staff was super friendly and I love this area of London. They have a sauna, showers, changing rooms, spin class room and a room for a multitude of classes if interested (yoga, boot camps, etc). If i lived here I would definitely join fitness first!
From what experience I have had, it’s great. Easy to find and easy to park. Facilities look new and well maintained. Sports hall is huge! I mean, really, REALLY big!Staff are polite and knowledgeable. Thumbs up!! Only dropped one star as I haven’t used all the facilities.
Have been an off peak member for just over a year now. Love the variety of classes during the daytime for all ages & abilities.
Bridget & Victoria are amazing instructors, they have such enthusiasm, they take time to encourage members to strive harder to improve their performance & technique.
They make the classes enjoyable & I’ve learnt so much from them. I tend to go to the RPM & Trip classes which are hard work but also good fun! 🚴‍♀️
It’s such a friendly gym & I have loved getting to know so many people. 😊
I have nothing but positive things to say about this place! I have been a member & worked in various gyms in Winchester & surrounding areas but this is by far the best.

Bridget & Victoria are amazing, they bring so much energy, enthusiasm & clear guidance to every class in which I have attended. The reception staff are always so welcoming, friendly and willing to help. It has been the best birthday present my husband has ever brought me.

You leave feeling mentally & physically stronger!

Thanks guys 🫶💟💪
Staff are really helpful and friendly. The leisure centre offers excellent and clean facilities. I really like how they have changing rooms and showers for families, but they also have designated changing rooms for men and women. The swimming pools are good for all ages and capabilities. Plenty of parking on site as well.

I've had a pleasant experience at Fitness First Fenchurch St the few months I have been training there; a variety of equipment to choose from, clean facility, and the highlights being the spacious spa area and the customer service - special shoutout to Hussain & Ike :)
Great gym! FABULOUS classes! I do Body Pump, Body Combat, Aqua Aerobics and Zumba and enjoy them all! Body Pump is weight training and is hard, you will ache the next day, body combat is martial arts routines which can be picked up easily you will sweat! The pool is warm and the changing rooms are clean. All class teachers are really friendly and the room is air conned! Staff are friendly too!
The best gym I have been to by far. The equipment is great, the spa area is nice but it’s the staff and community that wins it for me. Very friendly, enthusiastic and committed. Thank you guys for always supporting us and encouraging us (gym users) to try new things and improve!

I'm a long time member and do regular classes each week but I tried a newly launched fitness class today, functional strength. The instructors, Victoria and Bridget, were very clear in their explanations of form and tempo. It was an enjoyable, challenging class and I'll be doing ot again! Thoroughly recommend this gym!
ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL locker was robbed whilst we was swimming with children. Two iPhones an essentials hoodie and a handbag was taken. Staff were useless, stated that “they couldn’t see anything noticeable on cctv” they don’t cover insurance for “the public’s items” which is disgusting. We paid for secure lockers so be able to keep our belongings safe and then got robbed. They then proceeded to hand me an email to report our incident too. Shocking ‼️‼️‼️‼️

I have stayed there couple of times and it has been a positive experience. The rooms are modern, neat and clean but on a compact side. Every room has a large smart tv, tea coffee making facilities etc. the hotel has good sized gym, two lane pool , jacuzzi sauna, and a steam room. These facilities are included in the room rent. The hotel has on site car park, which was free on the weekend. The food in the grill pub was delicious. Though it was busy but food was served fairly quickly. Staff was really courteous. Overall I enjoyed my stay there and would recommend the hotel.
Looks lovely but gets way too busy and they don't have enough changing rooms

I used FF at The Strand this morning on a day pass. Compact club with everything you need for a good workout and clean facilities. The best advert for the club is June on reception. Warm, welcoming and helpful. She was a fantastic ambassador for Fitness First. Thank you June!
I have been going to this gym for roughly 2 years now. The main reason I picked this gym is because I am to young to get into any other gyms. Whiles it has not been the best experience every time, most of the time it is. Equipment was alright before but now after the renovating, every thing is amazing. Layout simply makes sense, good variety of machines and I would not describe it as spotless but it is clean. Most of the staff are extremely friendly and nice. There is facilitates to store bikes and scooters safely in a locked shed.
I love this gym. The only reason I will be switching when I am old enough is because of the size. It is quite a small gym.
My only complaint is a lot of people do not re rack and the ones who do are not in order.
Besides for that, this is a amazing gym were lots of gains can be made.
Excellent place for kids to learn swimming. We pay £28 a month each for our daughters to learn how to swim. They get a 30 minute lesson and are in groups and until they get to a certain stage one parents needs to be in the pool with them too.

They have a nice small soft play area too which is only open to those who have paid so it is usually not too busy. The changing area is also easy to use and spacious.

The reason I can’t give 5 stars is due to the parking. Whilst there are plenty of spaces to only be able to pay via cash and that too with no change given is ridiculous. Please wake up and join the 21st Century and allow us to pay via an app or by card.

One of the worst place to send your child to learn swimming. Instructors are so unprofessional and ill mannered it's unacceptable. Judy is the worst one. No manners at all how to speak to parents and she thinks she own this planet. My child's swimming career over all down to her.

Really great gym, very high quality equipment and facilities, family run with a nice welcoming atmosphere and I’ve never seen it be dirty before just really well run with all the equipment you could ever need.

My only problem with the gym is, the opening hours but for 99% of people this isn’t an issue it’s just an issue for the minority of us that finish work at night so struggle to find time to train unfortunately, so due to that I’ve also got a membership at a local 24 hr gym for when I’m working (Pretty please stay open a bit later would be amazing like 11pm?) but yeah superb gym that is suitable for all sorts of people with all sorts of goals (Unless your a silly night owl like me who likes training at 10pm lol) give it a go

Not just the staff, then equipment, the location and the value for money which is great, but the fact that you can watch TV while getting changed makes this the best gym in Central London. If you work around the Strand/Covent Garden area this is definitely the place to go.
Shoutout to the amazing team there, Ludo, August, Weronika, Enrique and company. You guys are amazing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really like fitness first Fenchurch . Very clean gym, good equipment and the staff is always welcoming. Irene is always very helpful and always has a good energy .
Called the other day as I'm new to the area. Asked about the evening swim as I'd saw one for people with mobility issues online. Receptionist said "there's no swimming after 6pm". I replied "I'm sure I saw a disabled swim online" oh yes that's at 7pm Tuesday... Goodbye. I have literally just turned up with my carer for the swim to be told we can't go in as it's fully booked. I replied " I called the other day, explained I was new to the area and the receptionist didn't tell me I had to book." Wasted journey and effort. Shame. I was looking forward to some hydrotherapy.
I have been a member at this gym for well over a year now and have to agree with some of the recent reviews around overcrowding and the service not matching the price point.

Over recent weeks it has been extremely difficult to get a full work out in because of how busy it is! I avoid peak times and even then the free weights room is packed. On a recent occasion I attended and there were two exercise classes happening at once, one in the usual studio but then also one on the main gym floor, utilising all of the lower weighted dumbbells that are already in high demand and blocking a lot of equipment.

In my experience some trainers in the gym will often use 2/3 pieces of equipment at a time with their clients which doesn’t help.

The main reception staff have always been friendly and helpful. However for the price of the membership you should be able to consistently have space and access to the equipment. I suspect it’s an oversubscription issue as this isn’t just a problem during the evening and weekends.
Great local leisure centre, pool - great for kids learning to swim, fun in the holidays or Lane swimming.
Classes, gym, sauna etc. Lovely staff.

Decent gym, clean, well equipped and great staff.

It gets very very busy especially at the functional area at peak times. I feel like for the price I’d expect more free space at a high end -ish gym.
Absolutely brilliant place, very friendly staff, great activities with great trainers.
Free fitness weekender is fantastic, so many classes to choose from, including new releases and never seen before classes. Cannot find a better place to spend the entire weekend. Marvellous!!!!

Great modern gym. Tracking your exercises and you can log weights and reps into the system. It also shows you how to do the exercise and at what speed, which is brilliant. I haven't seen such a modern gym, even though I was going to a few gyms in London. The pool is very nice, clean and warm. The sauna was also good. It's a pity the steam room was not working, but hopefully that will be fixed next time. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Suggestion: I was missing the machine for strengthening the back (the one you recline), which is important in this age of sitting 😁

I've been a member at Fitness First for almost a year now, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it! The gym is fantastic with a wide range of equipment and a great atmosphere. What really sets it apart though are the amazing staff, especially Richelle and Soria. Huge shout out to them – they're the best!
I was a member but I had to cancel because I moved. However, I still commute for my training sessions with Bernard. Thanks to him, I believe that sky is the limit when it comes to growth and more precisely physical strength. It is hard to explain Ben’s coaching style in words, but hopefully this one may illustrate a part of his work: he detects the imperfections in the movement pattern (squat for instance) which are likely to be responsible for a pain or a plateau, he makes sure that the body makes the correct adjustments and then growth becomes the norm ! Thanks Ben 🙏
Good parking at the venue, very courteous bar and reasonably priced. Food wasn't good on this occasion but didn't ruin the reason for being there. It was a nice little finish with some speeches and the odd award thanks for hosting the event Totton
Great Pool. Great Sauna and Steam Room. But was shocked when it became a Female only time. I was virtually escorted from the building. In these times of gender equality how can these places exist? They did not ask and assumed my gender. No other Lesuire Centre in Salford is like this. A lawsuit may be forth coming.

I advise you to steer clear of Fitness First, which engages in some shady business practices and whose customer service team is only available via email and then takes days to respond to queries or complaints. In my instance, the company breached their contractual agreement by levying a charge a day earlier than my contract stipulated. They did not deny this, but were unwilling to resolve it. Take your business elsewhere, or risk similar treatment.

Ample paid parking available in Car park, a handful of Disabled bays available . I visited early morning so might be very different at peak times.
Good clean entrance and reception area although I felt that the extra space behind the turnstiles here could be better used.
Having used the facilities ( swimming ) for the first time I am totally bemused by the changing area/ facilities. Who designed this 🤬. Ground floor MIXED changing room where all can get changed. Cubicles available but you still are sharing the area with males. I want privacy to change in an ALL FEMALE changing room reassured that I don't have any perverse activity going on in there. It's a NO from me !
Good to see a Ladies only Gym downstairs its small but acceptable. Upstairs there's a mixed Gym with a fair amount of Cardio & Free weights. Otherwise there are various classes available in the other rooms and of course a Swimming pool.
Nothing wrong with the Sports facilities and equipment but the Changing rooms are hugely off putting and need re thinking. They have a Ladies only gym so separate male & female changing rooms should've been a basic fixture in any leisure centre.

Ive had to remove my original glowing review because the last few months things have really changed.

Since the closure of two gyms, highbury has become over run. Its literlly full from morning to night and its started to affect the gym.

One of the biggest REGULAR annoyances is the lack of hot water first thing in the morning.
Nothing worse than stripping down after a crowded work out only to have to get dressed again because of the ice cold water.

The toilets are also lacking in cleanliness. I understand its busy so staff may not have the time they used to have, but the messes i see in those toilets its unacceptable.

I used to be happy to pay the £85 a months for a peaceful work out but if things continue this way,im not sure how you are going to justify these pricew for much longer.
Top gym, myself, wife and the kids go boxing here at Gallens Boxing, it’s a top place we all enjoy it. The boxing has increased my children’s confidence ten fold.
Really enjoy Karen’s yoga classes. Excellent instructor, explains movements really well & suggests alternatives for those with physical issues. Always encouraging & focused, & varies the classes each week. Brilliant, just a shame she doesn’t do more classes
Used this centre for years, my wife and I have always enjoyed the spin classes that are held at various times of the day throughout the week. Instructors are excellent and very motivational in striving to get that extra bit of effort from you. Spin bikes are top quality (replaced 12 months ago) and the gym has recently been refurbished to a high standard. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Have recently started spin classes with Toby at Totton and have found them very good for improving my general fitness. Toby instructs the class in an encouraging way and pitches the session to be challenging but not impossible for new and experienced spinners. You need to be a member of the centre to have any chance of booking onto his early evening sessions though!
Regularly use this for Spin and Pilates and, apart from the difficulty in getting into classes, (perhaps that's a good thing) I never have any issues. Instructors are good and I always come out feeling that I've had a good workout. Times and variety of classes have improved since the new year.
I had never thought I would feel comfortable walking into exercise classes, but after forcing myself in, the amazing instructors and friendly atmosphere has totally changed my confidence, attitude to fitness & relationship with my body.

Thanks to everyone here, I have discovered fantastic ways to manage stress and feel strong and in-tune with my body for the first time.

Special thanks to Toby, Carlton, Kay & Suzeanne - supportive instruction and motivation has been transformational for me, and I would never have believed that it could be when I first walked nervously into a class.

I was hoping for the price point and facilities available to have a better experience on my trial day here. The facilities seem good and there is everything you need despite being very overcrowded and a little run down in some areas. However the clientele in the gym really let the place down and have put me off getting a full membership. The pool area, sauna and steam room were chaos to put it lightly. The men in the gym are extremely rowdy and disrespectful of the fact that it’s a space for everyone to use, it almost felt like a kids club but with grown men. They were in and out of the sauna and steam room non stop, talking extremely loudly, shouting at times, taking phone calls and just generally treating the place like their own social club. It’s really disappointing that the culture within the gym hasn’t been set up to be a place where people can come and work out and enjoy the facilities in peace. Not worth the membership price I’d sooner go back to a budget gym where people respect the space and the people around them. Unfortunately some of the staff only seemed to egg the behaviour on and multiple people left the area visibly frustrated while I was there too.

It has the bones of a good gym but equipment is out of order and selections are limited. For example, there is only one flat bench for an entire gym, and the leg extension machine was broken for many weeks on end. The pool is lovely and recently refurbished, but it hardly makes up for the inability to get on specific pieces of equipment. For £70 a month I would expect better.
Love the classes here, a great variety and really positive and energetic instructors.

Not such a fan of the clientele who wear outdoor footwear around the pool changing rooms - the signage is big enough for people to notice, also, those who park in the parent and child spaces, please think of those of us crossing the car park with small children. There are plenty of spaces for all, park further away - get your steps in!!

The overall ambiance at Fitness First is commendable, and the access to both the sauna and steam room facilities enhances the experience. However, it’s crucial to address a recurring issue with a male member over 40 who continues to use exfoliating gloves inappropriately, specifically in the sauna and steam room areas. I’ve heard other members expressing similar concerns, indicating that this problem is affecting multiple individuals. Despite previous complaints, the issue persists, creating discomfort for members and impacting the quality of the facility. I hope the management takes proactive measures to promptly resolve this matter, ensuring a pleasant and sanitary environment for all members in the sauna and steam room areas.
Colin went out of his way to get the items we wanted. Excellent service.
Really friendly gym and great atmosphere to achieve my goals. The layout makes good use of the space and the equipment is quality. I especially like the classes MHC which I can book in easily without any hassle. The club have two choices of pools as well as a sauna and stream room which I love, such great vibe in this gym, wouldn’t want to go anywhere else :)

I absolutely love this gym! It's a five-star fitness paradise. With two pools, including an Olympic one, I never get tired of swimming laps. The gym equipment is top-notch, and they offer an incredible variety of classes like "MHC X," "Body Pump," and "HIIT." The cherry on top is the sauna and steam room. It's an amazing value for the price, and I can't recommend it enough. Five stars all the way!

This place is an oasis of calm even when the rest of the city is busy! It's a members only club, and there is sometimes a wait for membership - I had to wait about 6 months, but it was worth it. The pool is often very quiet, with only one or two other people in it - I've had it to myself occasionally! There is a steam room, sauna, and hot pool by the pool, as well as a fully kitted out gym upstairs. The staff are friendly, as are the other members.

One of the unique features of this place is that when you join, you get a small locker where you can keep your swimwear. Tag your swimwear with your locker number and you can actually chuck it into the laundry baskets with the towels and the staff will wash and dry it for you overnight, and leave it back in your locker. This means that I can go straight from work, for example, to the club without having to go home to pick up my swimwear. Very convenient!
Amazing place, relaxing with clearest pool,
So many resistance machines, free weight equipment, cardio machines, mats for stretching exercises. After gym has been renovated interior look much better than previously, also some exercise machines has been brought to this gym. Deep swimming pool , small size pool for kids , steam room and sauna ! But if separate shower area for man and woman will be provided or cabin shower will be great!
We called in regarding a new toilet seat( which was impossible to find). Colin took time out to really help us out source this item out .definitely went above and beyond.will be using this company in future .
Great service at a fair price. Highly recommended. Thank you.
Great private pool with good amenities and friendly staff
A lovely swimming pool oasis in the heart of Dean Village. Just wonderful!
The team were great and so patient with my wife and I. We then needed some spare tiles afterwards (was getting kitchen replaced) and they found a match for me no problem. Great service and reasonable too. Would recommend.
Blissfully relaxing olde worrlde placecto spend time.
i highly recommend a visit if you are looking for a new bathroom and/or tiles. the new owners were 110% helpful sourcing a compact good value cloakroom loo/sink which arrived in 2 working days.
my plumber has just complimented the quality and i am delighted with the price.
(my needs were modest but they go right up to high end options).
the old business was dormant for a few months and the new owners are remodelling the showroom so if you were a previous customer it's worth a look (and there are still a few ex-showroom bargains upstairs if you are quick!).
many thanks for the excellent customer service.
Fabulous uncrowded private swimming pool in historic baths club. One of a kind with welcoming members.
