The view from here was amazing - and the walk up the hill was great and with lots of peace and quiet. I walked up from the south/west side of the hill and it was very beautiful.

Great place to relax with friends, perfect views at the sea and the Acropolis.

Nice walk up the hill to the monument.
\the monument is good, but the main draw is the 360 degree views of Athens!
Stunning views from the top of the hill!

Urteile nie von außen.
Die Tür hatte ich noch garnicht ganz auf....
und ich war total beeindruckt. Man hat schon viel besucht und bestaunt und doch gibt es immer wieder mehr zu entdecken

Beautiful and ancient church. Couldn't see the interior as it was closed that time but history is very interesting. It was converted into a mosque and converted back to church.

A monument with interesting history and seems well-preserved. It sits atop a hill with spectacular 360 views and seating areas.

It's a beautiful church with a ton of history tied to it. We enjoyed popping in as we walked through Thessaloniki. With its stunning beauty and important religious meaning, this is a necessary stop.

Located in the city centre. Free, no entrance fee. The building is surrounded by cafés and shops.

Love this place! It feels far away from the crowd of the Acropolis but affords a great view of it, as well of the port and surrounding city. Plus it’s free.

Sehr belebter Platz. Toll eindrücklich und von der Geschichte sehr interessant.

Absolutely one of the best views of the entirety of Athens, for free. An absolute must for any traveling to Athens. The Acropolis is visible, the surrounding mountains are in plain view, and the whole city sits beneath your very eyes.

Probably the best spot in Athenes to watch sunrise. Not crowded, spectacular view of the entire city and Acropolis with sun quickly rising out of the mountain.

I really liked this church. I suspect it is not visited as frequently by tourists because it is a church from the end of the 8th century while most tourists go to the earlier church architecture from the fifth and earlier centuries. But this one is, in my opinion, the more interesting one because it was built during the time when Byzantium did not allow, for a brief period of time, any figurative decorations in the church. So this church is somewhat different from many of the other churches with a lot of figurative art. In this church, the earliest layer of decorations is mostly patterns and mosaics - almost as if it were a mosque.

Its a nice hike up to this place and the views are totall worth it! This place makes you realize just how big Athens really is. You can see the sea, the Acropolis and a large part of Athens from this spot! Its really nice and cool here in the evenings so a lovely place to sit.

If you want to get one of the best view of Acropolis and Athens for free, this is the place to go. During summer I would recommend going in the morning. Took my wife and 9 year old kid and the hike wasn’t that bad. You do have be in a good shape to make the hike. For me this is a must just for the view. The monument itself is not bad, but is not really the main reason to visit.

Whether you're a local or a tourist, this square offers a delightful experience. Don't miss the chance to immerse yourself in the vibrant vibes of Agia Sofia Square.

The Hill and Monument of Filopappou in Athens: Filopappou (or Philopappou) Hill is a green area to the southwest of the Acropolis. It is a favorite promenade of the Athenians and there you can have great views of the Acropolis, the whole city of Athens and the Aegean Sea that surrounds Attica. You can access the trail via multiple points and it takes about 15 minutes to get to the monument.
Background: In 115 AD, a monument dedicated to the exiled Roman Prince Gaius Julius Antichus Philopappos of Commagene (a region in ancient Armenia) was erected on top of the hill.
After his exile, Philopappos was settled in Athens, became an Athenian citizen and held religious and civil offices. He was considered a great benefactor and was highly esteemed by the residents.
The grave monument of Philopappos was constructed of marble from Mount Pentelikon, near Athens, and Mount Imittos, to the southeast of Athens.
