Small area, maybe nice for kinds.
Mini zoo in the heart of Athens at Zapio Gardens. Nice for kids
Spent a lot of time here, really amazing not having to pay! A really special discovery of Greek animals. The setting in the central park was also special as were the turtle island nearby!
We loved that zoo, it is very big but not too big, the animals look well taken care of. Don't miss the lemurs! they jump and interact with you, and it is a one of a kind experience I think me and the kids will remember forever, the petting zoo with many goats was lovely, be sure to have 50 cents, so you can get some food to hand over to them. The rhinos and the sloth were also exciting.
Cool experience to have close contact with various animals. Peacocks are walking everywhere in the zoo. The dolphin show was cancelled a few years ago for animal welfare. What an awesome job!
Such a great experience to be able to see all those animals from all over the world just an hour away from Athens. Bonus that -as written on several signs- quite a few animals had been rescued and brought to the zoo.
PS. The park with the lemurs is an absolute must, only this even is a reason good enough to visit the zoo.

A fine zoological park in Athens where you can spend half a day to observe the different animals, the birds, and the dolphin show. You can buy tickets at the entrance. There are restrooms and kiosks for buying snacks and drinks. The dolphin show happens on certain times.

Absolutely fantastic experience with our child. Highly recommend. Get the joint tickets with aqua park. First the zoo ~ 3-4hrs and then a refreshing water afternoon.
We went in august, so it was basically empty. No queues, but the animals are hanging out in the shadows or are mostly sleeping. Which might not give you the best family pictures, but its still fun.

A rather sad zoo. There were some animals (we saw birds, goats and turtles), but it felt pretty run down.
Pretty average. Wouldn't call it a zoo. Take a quick peak if you're already within the garden grounds. Otherwise, don't bother.
It was the best experience ever for us and our children too! It's a very large zoo, with so many different animals. We didn't expect to be able to feed the giraffes, that was an extreme experience for our little girls, they simply loved to feed the giraffes with salad. The keepers had green salad prepared for kids to feed them. We appreciate so much this way of interacting with animals. Another beautiful moment was at the dolphin pool, we could see them through some of the glass walls of the pool.
All in all, the whole zoo has great places and a bit of interaction with animals makes the experience even better.

One of the best zoos in all of Europe. It is so big, you can easily spend all day walking around. There is also a huge variety of species from all over the world. Definitely a must see if you're in Athens. The only problem is that it is incredibly hard to get to with public transport from the city, but possible nonetheless.
I liked the zoo better than I thought (seen the earlier photos online and stuff). I went on a Sunday out of season, not that busy. Liked the animals that I saw, some had it better than others. It was a nice/okay zoo and liked it a lot. It was a lovely day. Do your own research and see if you would like to go as well or take the gamble for €21.
I am no tree hugging, world saving, no-meat eating hippie. But this so called zoo is pure animal abuse. Just by looking at the state of the animals you can see they are underfed, dehydrated and locked in far too small enclosures. I would not advise anyone to go here as it will sadden you (asuming you have a heart). Long story short, shame on you Athens. Set those animals free or lock yourself up. Either way, fix this horrible situation.
HORRIBLE. Terrible animal mistreatment. Some of the ducks had Angel Wing, a preventable disease caused by poor nutrition. Many birds suffered from bad mite infections. No enrichment in the very small enclosures. Cruel. Can’t believe this zoo exists, should be closed down immediately.
Small area for animals. Smell not good. People not feed this animals. It's good for children's. They will be happy to se animals. It's free for all people.
Yeah nah, should get rid of that for the sake of the birds and the animals. Or at least, the birds can be freed to join the others at the pond (which are not caged). It's nice to have seen some goats, of course, but still, it seemed like they had nothing to do there and that they were miserable. A bleak spot in an otherwise great park!
The animals are stressed out! Where's the pond for the ducks and geese?? They are half plucked and sad. The birds are in bad condition. some in small cages.The goats have a tiny enclosure with nothing to do. Get rid of it! Horrible place
Animal abuse. Very sad place. Looks like middle ages. I would expect something better form and European capital city.
Animals keept in small enclosures. Ducks without access to water big enough for swimming. No grass just plain land. Water turtle keept in very small pond with not enough stones to rest on. Very hard to watch as an animal lover.

Es un bonito lugar por el q dar un paseo y sentarte a descansar rodeado de verde,una pena q la gente no haga ni caso y siga dando de comer a los animales cuando pone por todos lados q no lo hagas,tenia un bar q ahora esta cerrado y ahora mismo esta en obras con lo q se afea un poco las vistas,un lugar donde llevar a niños pequeños y q se lo pases pipa

Debería de estar más vigilado ya que la gente no tiene respeto por nada y es una pena.
