Simply amazing! Make sure to be there right at opening time - 0600. We had the whole place for ourselves and keep an eye out for the dog in the second picture. She tends to walk with the first ones that arrive right from the entrance all the way to the treasury! She’s friendly ;)

My recent visit to the iconic Petra Treasury (Al-Khazneh) was absolutely breathtaking, and I would love to share some tips for future travelers looking to experience this wonder of the world in the best way possible.

First off, I highly recommend visiting early in the morning. There's something truly magical about the soft morning light as it illuminates the Treasury's intricate facade. An early start not only gifts you with a cooler temperature but also ensures a more tranquil experience, away from the peak crowds that usually arrive later in the day. This quiet atmosphere allowed me to fully immerse myself in the beauty of the site and capture some stunning, unobstructed photographs.

For those planning to spend a few hours exploring, it's essential to come prepared. I packed a light snack and made sure to carry enough water, which was a wise decision as there are no shops along the trail to purchase food or beverages. It's important to stay hydrated and energized during the walk, which in itself is an unforgettable experience, with the ancient rose-red city revealing its secrets with every step.

If you're keen on delving into the rich history of Petra, I suggest hiring a guide. The stories and facts that the guides provide truly enrich the visit, giving life to the stone-carved facades and ruins around you. They are knowledgeable and often share insights that you might not find in guidebooks.

Lastly, if you're touring Jordan and have Petra on your itinerary, do consider getting the Jordan Pass. It not only offers you a free pass to Petra but also includes several other historical and cultural sites across Jordan, which can save you a significant amount of money and time at ticket lines.

In conclusion, Petra is a must-visit destination, and the Treasury is its crown jewel. With a little planning and early rising, your visit can be as magical as mine was. Enjoy your journey through history!

Main site of Petra and very well preserved! If you aren’t a big fan of walking, you can take one of the carts or donkeys to the treasury from the entrance but you have to pay. The walk there isn’t very difficult and it’s mostly flat terrain. Make sure to bring a hat and water as it does get quite hot under the sun.

This is truly one of the modern wonders of the world. The size and the detail of the sculptured facade is amazing.
For me its the face of Jordan, and I wasn't disappointed.
A hint we went near sunset past the Treasury again, and it was empty.

I have seen the treasury at Petra only in movies like Indiana Jones. When i saw the same for real for the first time, it was majestic than what I imagined or what i saw on the TV. To reach the treasury, you have to walk for 2 kms through a beautiful Wadi. The walk was so exciting because of the beautiful rock formations. The treasury is just the beginning of an exciting trip to Petra.
Stunning, beautiful, a bucket list trip. This is one of the most magnificent places around the world I have visited. Just seeing how vast the city was in the valley along with all the temples and structures throughout. To think that some of them are still standing, is incredible.

Amazing historical site. Mid morning and late arvo were the best times to visit - min crowds in Feb. It does get quite chilly in the shade. Bring a jacket with you.

What an amazing sight to see. We went early and start at 7 am, this was nice because a lot of the crowds were not there at the time so it was quick to get a ticket and most attractions did not have too many tourists around them. We saw almost everything and even did a long hike to see the top of the Treasury. It took us around 7 hours. We also came here in August, I would not recommend due to the heat. My favorites were Al Siq, the Treasury and the Monastery. Glad to be able to see Petra and cross off something else from my bucket list.

What an amazing experience to visit the Petra historic site. It is recommended to visit for two days, so there is enough time to visit not only the Treasury, but also the Monastery, and to hike around (there are a few hiking trails, one of them gives a view in the Treasury from above).

This is one of the majestic places you will ever see in your life. This is a must do while alive, do not make the mistake and not see this wonder. There’s so much to do and see here. Make sure you start right at the beginning of the day, to make sure you see everything. I would recommend buying the two day pass, it really does take a long time to see everything especially if you climb up to the monastery.

One of the best historical places you will visit, we went through all the places inside.
I would recommend to bring light snacks with you and alot of water as there will be a long distance to walk specially if you are planning to visit the monastery, we walked for about 17 km that day
One of the best preserved Roman cities, it’s important to have enough time to see the whole place. Maybe 2-2.5 hours.

There are many interesting structures to see, including theaters, temples, hippodrome, streets, etc.

The trails off the main route offer great views. A very fascinating place! A must see!!
The soaring stone columns of Jerash's Temple of Artemis are amazingly impressive. Expertly cut, the towering columns create a stunning forest of limestone. Their intricate details are amazingly well-preserved after thousands of years. The temple's imposing colonnaded entrance leads into a vast sanctuary with alcoves. No visit to these impressive ruins is complete without seeing these magnificent columns.
In the 7 days I was in Jordan, this site and Petra were the ones I would recommend the most.

AMAZING. JAW DROPPING. WOOOWWWWW. Honestly, the way it's been kept, the details, the history, everything about Jerash was phenomenal.

Definitely make it a must not a maybe if you go to Jordan.
Jerash is a fantastic example of the Roman presence Jordan. The many temples and public spaces have been and are being discovered and restored to make them easily accessible. This is a " do not miss" destination.

Simply breathtaking! You get lost in ancient times in the Lost City. More efforts are needed to preserve this wonderful piece of history. Cleanliness and facilities for tourists should be improved.

Beautiful place to visit, at the beginning a lot of sales people and people who give away a lot of stuff, but expect a big tip for their generosity.

I absolutely loved it here. Felt like a getaway from the beeping and chaos of the city. Could easily be in Rome which is incredible. I didn’t use a guide which I was quoted to be 60 JD! Entry on the Jordan Pass. I spent over an hour here exploring and checking out the small museum.
Disappointing that Jordanians do not look after anything, desperate for tourism and take money for every little thing. Start taking some pride in your rich history.
This is Jordan’s largest Roman site and one of the best preserved Roman cities in the world. It is simply breathtaking!

It’s definitely worth hiring a guide to make the city’s history come alive, and to allow at least 3, maybe 4 hours to explore this place. There is little shade here, so a head covering, sunscreen and plenty of water are also highly recommended.

Although Petra is Jordan’s #1 architectural tourist attraction, this place should definitely be on your itinerary.

Beautiful site packed with history! Glad to have visited the site. It also gives a Panasonic view of the entire Amman City. We didn’t have enough time to visit the Roman amphitheatre but we’re glad to have a good sighting of it through the Citadel.. Be sure to visit with good sun protection if visiting during the day.. it can get really sunny!

Visited these archaeological remains while in Amman, located on top of one of the city’s seven hills. The queue for buying tickets was short and the site wasn’t crowded.

The Umayyad Palace is well-preserved but the Temple of Hercules comprises only two complete columns. Other structures are either in very poor condition or are not excavated. Unfortunately the site is not policed, with tourists allowed to climb over the ruins, further escalating their decay. I personally think that this is a very poor decision.

The views across the city are good, enhancing the appeal of this place. Plus it’s only 2JD to enter. There is also a place for refreshments at the entrance and toilets.

There are far better archaeological sites to visit nearby, but this is OK to spend an hour if you’re in Amman.

A great place to visit. The views were amazing from the top. The museum was pretty informative and worth a visit especially for a welcome break from the heat. Drink plenty of water. There is parking and toilets. Cafe is located at the entry. The Jordan pass will get stamped at the ticket booth for free entry.

The landscape was unique and beautiful, and do I need to explain why the city carved in mountain is amazing. It’s definitely a challenging hike given the hot weather. Make sure you bring plenty of water and wear comfortable clothes.

Apart from the awe-inspiring vestiges of the region's abundant history, the Amman Citadel provides a vantage point for the amphitheater's remnants and boasts an incredible panoramic vista of both the city and the landscape.

For individuals passionate about history and seeking to delve deeper into the site's story, certified tour guides are available for a modest fee.

If you visit during the daytime, it's advisable to wear a hat. Although the weather is typically delightful (except during mid-summer, naturally), it can become quite sunny.

In addition to the spectacular remnants of the land's rich history, the Amman Citadel overlooks remains of the amphitheatre and also offers a spectacular panoramic view of the city and the terrain.

For history enthusiasts and those with a thirst for knowledge who want to know more about the place, there are certified tour guides who can be engaged for a nominal fee.

If you go during the daytime, wearing a hat is recommended. While the weather is generally amazing (unless it's mid-summer, of course) it does get quite sunny.
Amazing place! You can vividly imagine a bustling Roman city since the hippodrome and market square, as well as colonnaded street are well preserved. The acoustics in the northern theater is incredible! The only downside was that it was terribly hot in August.
Those who love European culture outside of Europe are in the right place. This place is huge and well prevented. Be careful while you are admiring the architecture cuz days are very hot here and from your excitement, your erection could be more than obvious 🤣
There are also nice souvenir stores, facilities and local food. Good to see. Thank you🤩
A large ancient Roman city in the city of Jerash. The place has a car parking, and then you enter a small souk that sells souvenirs and snacks/drinks. You buy tickets from here, and then you start your journey of exploring the many amphitheaters, pillars, roads, and gathering areas. Allocate anywhere between half to one full day to explore and enjoy this place.

Restrooms are at the entrance area only. Once you are in the ancient city, no restrooms or snacks/drinks to buy are available.
I went to Jerash to see the festival that decorates the hot summer night every year. It was a festival that I would definitely like to come back next year.
Jordanians are always friendly and nice to me.

An amazing historic place to visit in Amman. You will definitely enjoy it. A breathtaking view of the capital. It is quite hot in this time of year so refresh yourself with lots of water. The entrance fee is 3 JOD. If you prefer, you can easily arrange the private tour in the complex. Everything started here. I came during the day where not so many people inside, but I was advised later to come here before the sunset and enjoy it. There is an archaeological museum inside you should also check. A truly must visit place!

beautiful archaeological site in main Amman city, very well maintained. Up there you get good view of the whole city. Must visit place if you are in Jordan.
Astonishing views on downtown, the old city and an exceptional angle of the roman theater. Great architectural details and a nice informative museum with super interesting old sculptures and crafts some dates to more than 100 thousand years…
Friendly staff and security guys and a nice path to walk around with spots to rest.
Not sure about the price for foreigners but it’s definitely included in the jordan-pass.
*no wheelchair access unfortunately

The Temple of Artemis in Jerash, Jordan, was a fascinating archaeological gem, showcasing the religious devotion and architectural prowess of the ancient civilizations. Its intricate carvings and well-preserved remains were a testament to the reverence and significance of the goddess Artemis in the ancient world. Exploring this site was a captivating journey into the past, leaving me with a profound appreciation for the cultural heritage and historical legacy of Jerash.

One of the many tourist sites you must see when visiting Amman. Historical remnants of the Roman empire are visible, and the museum also tells the tales. The view of the city and the coliseum across the street is also an addition to the many photographic locations around. Avoid the taxis
outside, they will hustle big time. If you can, take an Uber. It would be good if wifi is available at the location.

Great location in Amman. Next to nothing to enter but local guide was expensive ($40) not knowing his level of knowledge.
Nothing was off limit except the cave and a few artifacts in museum cases.
Take care as you scramble over 2000 year old columns in your shoes!
It gets hot. Cafe available. Toilets also.

The citadel locates in a high place in Amman and the view from there is fantastic. Luckily from 16 May to 31 Aug the opening hours is 8 am - 8 pm. You can see most of the interesting places in Amman from there and the information plates are very detailed, written in both English and Arabic. The entrance fee is 3JD for foreigners and it really worths it! It has multiple ancient ruin sites, a museum, coffee shop and toilet inside. You can see a lot of young people there, reading book, or just sit there relaxing. I even saw photographers taking pre-wedding photos for a couple near the church. It is a must-see in Amman and spending some time there is very comfortable.
Nice columns and colors. Here you can see the moving pillar.

Lovely place and quite big. Easily accessible by taxi. If you’re going to walk then there’s a steep hill to get up to it. Taxi drivers that hang out here may try and trick you into paying a lot of money for a taxi back. If so, call an Uber.
The place itself is quite large with lots to see and some clear signage but not a lot and some signs have faded or are broken.
Some parts are in good condition but, as with many ruins in Jordan, it could do with more investment to bring it up to a good standard. Much more could be done here to understand and restore it but what’s here is good.
The museum is small and worth a look but nothing incredibly impressive here.
Beautiful views of the city and the theatre.
Bring water if it’s a hot day.
Overall I’d recommend it - an interesting place with a lot of history, nice ruins and great views.

Very well preserved and beautiful. Definitely go inside and under the temple. I’m not sure if you need a guide for this or not. There are guides (well they might be guides but not official guides) who will take you in and under and will charge 5JD. Very cool to explore around it and will only take like 10 minutes. Neat to see how the columns were made to move to be earthquake resistant too.
