This fascinating, and the most important photography museum in the Netherlands, is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the city. All exhibitions are not permanent except The Gallery of Honour of Dutch Photography: a permanent exhibit of 99 iconic images that together tell the story of 180 years of photographic history. The museum offers 5 to 7 exhibitions per year. Highly recommended.

Very close to Erasmus Bridge, this museum has a very nice collection from Dutch photographers. When I visited there was an exhibition on Ad Van Denderen called En Route. Also an exhibition called This One Is For You Serra by Monica Nouwens. The last temporary exhibit was Womxn. More Than a Muse by Sebiha Ozlas. Then there is a permanent exhibition of the Hall of Fame of Dutch Photography. Overall this was a nice museum and would recommend if you have a museum card.
Mooi overzicht van Ad van Denderen, die veel gereisd heeft...Niet alle foto's zijn even opzienbarend, maar er zitten zeker ook vele parels tussen.
A good and interesting collection of photos. You can watch it like a timejourney with a lot important political and social events. And also are temporary exibitions - we visited the palestina and refugee photographs with very actual meanings.
Some descriptions should be also in English. The location itself is really made for this kind of exibition. We spend 2 hours. As student you get half price.

Ik heb drie tentoonstellingen gezien. Mooie presentatie. Vond het museum een bezoek waard, maar had om onduidelijke reden eigenlijk meer verwacht. Al hebben bepaalde foto's en de uitleg veel indruk gemaakt. Womxn maakte veel indruk. Voor mij was opvallend dat het dragen van een hoofddoek de gezichten heel sprekend deden uitkomen.
Het restaurant en de koffiebar waren gesloten en dat gaf een wat ongezellige sfeer. (Dit i.v.m. de weinige bezoekers op dat moment? Ik kreeg een bon voor gratis koffie bij de Coffeecompany) Het personeel in het museum was zeer vriendelijk en hulpvaardig.

Mooie tentoonstelling momenteel. Ruimtelijk opgesteld. Prachtige nachtblauwe achtergronden. Foto's komen er mooi buj uit.
Viel erg tegen. Drie tentoonstellingen gezien. De eregalerij met 99 foto's was nog wel de moeite waard, maar niet bijzonder.

Afhankelijk van de expositie blijft dit een inspirerende plek waar je elke keer weer wordt verrast door de fotografen. Museum is heel relaxed en toegankelijk voor de meeste leeftijden.
Ruim opgezet museum om in rust naar de vaste collectie en tijdelijke tentoonstellingen te kijken. Het vriendelijke personeel legt duidelijk uit waar alles is. Qua faciliteiten is aan alles gedacht: rolstoelvriendelijk, restaurant, zitgelegenheid, kapstok, kluisjes...
De eregalerij bekijken is een aanrader met het gidsje erbij voor uitleg. Je bent hier geen uren bezig, maar zeker de moeite waard om te bezoeken als je een bredere kijk wilt krijgen op deze kunstvorm.

Super vriendelijke werknemers. Interessante collectie. Er waren ook wat andere activiteiten zoals een henna tatoeage laten zetten en buttons maken. Leuke halve dag activiteit voor bij slecht weer..
Place with no rush photography to see, don't forget the library. Check the website regarding the workshops. Exposition will be seen within 1 hour max, 2 floors. There is a baby changing table in the toilet.
Great museum! The exhibition about the dutch photography was interesting and educational. I really reccomend downloading the app to get the full experience. The temporary exhibition of SANJA MARUŠIĆ (18 FEB. TILL 18 JUN. 2023) is amazing. It can be seen that it was well curated and the exhibition space is part of the art.

The location is in the part of where an old busy port of Rotterdam used to be and the museum is housed in one of the old warehouses from that time. The whole area is now full of restaurants, hotels and there is the cruise terminal.
With the so called Museumkaart you can get in for free so when you are planning to visit more museums in The Netherlands it may be a good idea to get one as normal entry prices are sometimes very high.

Probably wouldn't have visited except it was right next to our hotel and free with the museumkaart. I was thoroughly impressed. They had some really old photos, really cool new ones, and an exhibit from wars in the 70s. Mostly portraits and pics of people, but there were many to be seen that you can't see anywhere else.
