Tyler’s tour was perfect. Took us to the best sand bars, gave us information about the area, ensured we had a great time. He felt like part of our group and wasn’t overbearing. No one better for our next boat tour!

Captain Tyler took my husband and I for a leisurely sunset cruise. He pointed out the beautifully lit up homes along the bayou. Would definitely choose him again.

great sailing experience for first timers and those with a lot of sailing experience! The captains are amazing they let you helm the boat, give a great tour of everything around the bay, ocean, and often find interesting sea lions, dolphins, birds and other sea life! sail more!

Capt was super cool! Played awesome music. We such a great time. He drove the boat really well. Best charter trip ever. We saw dolphins and Captain Tyler did this cool thing where the dolphins joined the boats wake and swam alone with our boat. It was amazing and we got a great video and photos of it. We also got into the water and found sand dollars and other sea life. I highly recommend captain Tyler and his boat ride!

We had the most incredible sailing trip with Captain Corey! He worked with our group and accommodated a last minute time change due to weather. Cannot thank him enough for his help and giving us such a fun tour! It was the most memorable part of the bachelorette party. Corey was so kind to take photos, customize our trip, and share knowledge about sailing and San Diego. He is a phenomenal guide. Thank you Corey!!

Great experience , had a blast with captain Sal that is very friendly and knowledgeable, we felt super safe and taken care of. Even was stirring for a bit! We’ll be back!

Captain De Jong Charters is amazing! Tyler, the owner, is a great guy; fun to be around and super knowledgeable. He will make sure you’re enjoying your time and seeing the best of the area. I have used his services for a charter with friends and boating lessons. I highly recommend him for both!

Incredible sunset sail with Sail San Diego! Would highly recommend for a couple or family. We sailed with our two kids, 15 & 12 and they loved it!

This is my 3rd time out with Tyler, he knows all the cool spots, plays awesome music and is a great captain. He always makes us feel welcomed! Highly recommended!

Skipper Chris is the best and made our sunlight sail absolutely fabulous! The entire experience working with Sail Sand Diego was a treat and the highlight of our vacation to the area!!

The Boston Harbor Sailing Club is perhaps the best kept secret among local sailors. I've been a member for 5+ years and we have had amazing experiences and made lifetime memories for me and my family. For the last 4 years or so we've had a Cal-39 Platinum membership at a cost that is thousands of dollars less than other clubs, with more sailing time and MUCH more options for places to sail to. With 1 Cal-39 in Westport (among several other smaller boats down there) we get access to some of the best cruising grounds on the east coast. I'm not aware of any other club that gets you sailing in Boston Harbor & Buzzards Bay, and this is a huge advantage.
We've sailed that boat to Cuttyhunk, Newport, Block Island and Montauk. We've sailed the boats out of Boston to Provincetown, Marblehead, Newburyport and done countless day trips to the harbor islands here in Boston. My kids started their sailing careers at ages 10 and 8 and now can't wait for summer so we can get out on the water. Cutty is our favorite & only a few hours sail from Westport. We'd inflate the dinghy, attach the outboard, load up the kids, a cooler and our dog, find a secluded patch of beach and make a day of it. Or we'd swim off the boat at anchor. Or we'd do the same thing in Block. All the pics, all the videos, all the memories are things we'll always have.
If you're wondering why the membership is cheaper, it's because the boats are older & show their age. Mechanically, they're kept up in top-notch condition but cosmetically they're not quite as clean as other clubs. For my money, though, I'd take a hit on cosmetics, save a few bucks and get access to all of the great locations that Buzzards Bay gives you. To be clear, all the mechanics, the rigging, the systems are maintained very well and after 100's and 100's of miles of sailing I've never had a problem.
If you're new to sailing they have memberships for smaller day sailing boats and plenty of courses to help you learn the ropes. Either way, I highly recommend you check out Boston Harbor Sailing Club if you're looking to get out on the water this summer!

Our sail took us out of the harbor into the Pacific Ocean for some awesome sailing. The sailboat was perfect in every way and our captain was young, but super experienced. If you are up for it, they will let you take the wheel.

Went for the sunset sail with Happy Captain Greg, and it was fantastic. Smooth sailing, beer and snacks included, and Greg’s knowledge plus dry sense of humor made for a super fun trip. Would definitely recommend, and we will probably go again!

I highly recommend this company and Happy Captain Greg (you can request him)! I've been out on a sail twice now, one public and one private. Both experiences were truly so wonderful. You learn a lot, get to see a lot of the bay, coast, and wildlife, listen to some great music, and it's all around a really awesome time. You may even get to sail the boat yourself for a bit (with help of course). Snacks and drinks are always available on the boat. The seats are cushioned and very comfortable - there's usually a giant bean bag at the front of the boat as well. Will keep coming back with more friends and family for sure!

We had an amazing time. Enjoyable ride. Great captain with a positive attitude who you'd think doubled as an entertainer. We were a party of 6 who went on a private ride. We were able to choose which are we sailed in. There were seltzers, beers, and small snacks on board. Encourage you to bring some of your own too - it is allowed and fun. He played great music. It was an amazing experience I would highly recommend!

We had THE MOST fantastic experience on our private sunset sail. We booked for our anniversary and we were met at the check-in desk with an anniversary card signed by the employees at Sail San Diego. Our captain was AWESOME - so friendly and knowledgeable. I HIGHLY recommend booking a sail with this company! You won’t regret it!

Bad coaches. Are not willing to teach students beyond basic rowing and will actively exclude your kid if they don't like them.

The ANGLER crew was very welcoming and helpful. Boat was clean, bait and reels were provided. They filet any fish you wish to keep at no additional cost. The boat switched locations at least 3 times so you’re not stuck at one spot catching nothing. It was a great experience and I would definitely do it again!

Top guy, top service. This trip was remarkable, highlight of my trip. Tyler is a cool guy, takes you around cool spots, informs you about the environment and does this with a smile!

My son, my mother and I absolutely loved our sailing experience with San Diego Sailing Tours! Captain Dustin was very friendly, patient (as we ran a bit late), accommodating (answering endless questions from my kiddo & teaching him about sailing, and he also came up w/ a new sailing route on the fly since our delayed departure didn't allow enough time for the route originally planned), informative about the area, and overall just made us feel right at home on the boat!
Our trip was smooth and we will definitely be scheduling another sailing excursion with San Diego Sailing Tours/Captain Dustin next time we are in the San Diego area. I highly recommend choosing them to sail with!

Our 11 year old recently attended The Angler Fleet run by Captain Kenny. This was our son’s first time fishing so we decided why not send him to fishing camp! Let me tell you that he absolutely loved it! They are organized, structured and very well supervised. My son learned so much about fishing and different fishes from Captain Jason and Joe and absolutely loved going everyday. He even asked us to sign him up next summer. Thank you Captains Kenny & Jason and Joe for giving me son such an amazing experience this week, we will definitely see you next summer!

Capt. Bob, Dev, and Andrew were very friendly AND Knowledgeable. Learned many little fun facts of the fish we caught (which weren't many). But they were an excellent crew for beginners!
Our party members who were forced to come along found fishing more fun than they had originally believed and are planning a second trip with this company. Hopefully, we have better luck!

Spent July 4th with Captain Kenny and the angler staff for July 4th with family and friends.
The boat was super clean and well staffed/well lit/well organized. The onboarding process was seamless. Great by staff and a lavish Buffett. Set sail on time and we got beautiful views of the sound /city prior to settling in for front row seats to an awesome fireworks show. Nothing between the ship and the barge where fireworks show was being run from.
Between the awesome hospital, staff, boat, views for firework shows and the moonrise this was a home run from beginning to end.

We took the Angler out on Fathers Day with 15 people including lots of kids-we had the best time! We caught tons of fish and didn't have to bring any equipment, which is perfect when doing anything with kiddos. The crew was fantastic-Capt. Ken knows how to host on his boat! Highly recommend any charter trip he offers for groups with families! Growing up in this town, waterfront activities are always the way to spend time with friends and fam!

As a group of > 30 people with mixed ages and experiences, we had a great fishing trip and many memorable experiences with the Angler Fishing Fleet crew. Here are a few highlights: (1) the choice of modified reels made the trip extremely kid- and beginner-friendly; (2) some soft fishing rods made baits sensitive; (3) the size 5 sinker is perfect for kids; (4) a great setting allows bites everywhere around the boat; (5) the crew are nice, professional, and patient for kids and beginners.

We did a Sunset Sail with Capt Corey this week, and dispute my wife's lack of sea legs, we had an AWESOME time! If you can make time to go for a sail I highly recommend it! We were in SD for a week and this was the highlight for us! A great memory we will cherrish for many years to come!

Met with the director Chris Macy for a while when in between him installing a new battery and fixing another boat in his Fleet at the sea Scout base and hearing from others about fantastic trip we have scheduled this weekend near Ensenada for a number of the sea Scouts! All sounds like bundles of fun

Completed the ASA101 and ASA103 classes out of Boston, the ASA104 class out of Warwick, RI, (photo sailing beneath Newport Bridge) all three courses exceeded my expectations! I had zero sailing experience when I started, the instructors appropriately paced the classes and on the water sailing for us to learn the basics, safety, navigation and beyond. Just great!

Best group of people you'll ever meet. Fun on the water.....

Captain Gary and H were great. Both have continued to be resources for us with sailing questions long after our certifications.

Where to start?!?!
My hubs booked this for us to celebrate my birthday and we did decide in this extremely late BUT thankfully right on time!!!
I loveeee the water and it was a great blessing to spend time with Captain Alan was so funny, knowledgeable and chill.
The lunch provided was delicious and we crushed our food quite quickly lol.
Seeing the seals and pelicians so closely was the highlight because there were in their natural habitat, being them and being an observer of that brought about peace and calmness.
So much so, we were able to enjoy an nice sun-kissed nap on the ride back to the dock.
Alan, thank you for being you and pursuing your passion enough for us to make these unforgettable moments in life.
Thank you and until we meet again,

My family had the most magical evening sailing with Capt. Jesse!! We often do sunset cruises while in San Diego but this was by far our favorite company to work with. It was my birthday and they were absolutely amazing and gave us so many memories, the kids enjoyed watching the seals and loved chatting with Captain Jesse and crew. We can’t wait to do it again.

Did my boating course about 2 month ago with Captain Rick,Very informative, lots of knowledge,
A fun and interactive classroom,I learned so much about the boating world....thank you Captain Rick,
I highly recommend anyone who is looking to get their boating certification, to contact Captain Rick

We had the BEST time with Captain Ryan. He was welcoming and awesome to chat with and made sure we had a great time on our tour. You can tell he really cares about customer service and loves what he does. I was nervous about sailing (I don’t love boats) but this was the most pleasant boating experience I’ve ever had. 100% recommend!

Sea scouts is a camp and staff are excellent. My son has gone this summer and last summer and looks forward to all the water fun they have: kayaking, jumping off the Lilly pad, going on the duck boat, playing in the sand, going fishing, doing the scout activities and arts and crafts. The staff are positive and engaging and we’re always making sure my son was safe and well covered with sunblock. After the groom of the pandemic, this was a bright spot for my son, he would come home happy and with his energy expended- the best kind of day!

The best

Our Wolf Cub had the best time! Everyday when he came home we asked him to rate the day on a scale of 1-10. Camp received a 10+ every single day. He couldn’t wait to tell everyone about what he learned during robotics and the fun times he had on and in the water. This was his first camp experience and we couldn’t recommend it enough!

My son had an awesome experience last week at the Sea Base Cub Scout camp. Activities were engaging and kept him active all day. He was excited to attend! Thank you for organizing this amazing program.

This experience at the Sea Base exceeded our expectations! The team was super fun and brought great energy each day. My scout enjoyed his week so much he wanted to wear his pack shirt the final day. We are definitely singing up again, thank you!

My son had a wonderful time @ SeaBase! Some of the activities he enjoyed were jumping of the lily pad, making brownies and decorating it, touching sea animals, kayaking, tie dying and much more. Thank you to the SeaBase team for doing a great job keeping the kids safe, hydrated, while applied with sunscreen, and of course having a blast!

We had an awesome experience for our first time sailing with Captain Danny! From the moment he greeted us at the fountain, till the time we stepped off the boat was a blast! Not only was here knowledgeable about sailing, he also knew a lot about the area and the history as well. To top it all off he entertained us with a couple of jokes, asked us questions about our travels and was very personable in speaking about himself and his travels! Sailing with Captain Danny was a lot of fun. The bay was beautiful and the weather, while not as windy as he might have liked or would’ve been perfect for sailing, was on point as well! I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone.

I recently attended Black Rock Sailing School in Boston. I can’t say enough about Captain Paul & Captain Forest. The instructors were not only knowledgeable & professional but they made it a fun experience. If you are thinking about learning to sail then don’t hesitate to sign up at Black Rock.

Just finished our 101 course with Paul. We got very lucky with the weather being terrific, but more importantly than that the classroom and on-the-water instruction was superb. Paul was knowledgeable, patient, good natured and a skilled teacher (both with the theoretical aspects as well as the practical). Looking forward to taking the 103 course in a couple of weeks and would very much recommend Black Rock to anyone interested in learning to sail.

We had an absolutely wonderful time with Captain Tyler. The scenery was beautiful and Captain Tyler was the best guide and host. He knew exactly where to go to get the best sunset pictures and he took us to where dolphins are known to be, expertly managing to engage and play with the dolphins, much to our delight!
The weather was windy and there were significant white caps but Captain Tyler really was great at almost surfing the waves so we had an exhilarating ride. The most fun I’ve had in years! I highly recommend!

Wonderful sunset sail

great place to learn how to row

My husband, nephew, and I just completed our ASA 101 sailing course through Black Rock Sailing School in Boston and I couldn’t have been happier. Our instructors were incredibly knowledgeable not only about the class but about anything we thought of to ask (and there was a lot!). The environment was very welcoming, I never felt like the odd one out as the only woman present in the class. I can’t wait for 103. We’ll be in RI for that one and after going to Boston I was a little sad we set it up this way but Brenton’s reputation suggests we’ll have just as good a time there.
Highly recommend for people who are thinking about getting into sailing for the cruising life style (part or full time) as well as the folks who are interested in racing.

Just brought my newly purchased boat around from Freeport to College point. This guy goes above and beyond! Made sure everything on the boat was 100٪ in working order. Then worked with the dealer fixing the things that weren't. Saved me a trip back for repairs to things I would not have discovered until later. Made the trip around a joy rather than a stressful situation. Great day on the water.
Thank you again Capt. Rick!

Captain Gary and Captain H were tremendously patient and awesome instructors. Sailing is something that we want to be a family adventure. When I explained that we have 3 kiddos ages 8 and under, Gary was excited and warmly offered to let them be part of the entire experience! My wife and I both completed ASA 101/103 and 104 within a period of 2 weeks. The schedule flexibility of Gary and team was great. If you are looking to learn and not just check the block while enjoying the experience and patient assurance of experienced instructors- Smarter Sail is for you! To top it off the price is very reasonable and they are the only ASA instructors I could find that would allow us to bring our entire family- and they were genuinely excited to do so! We will be back to continue on our family sailing adventure! Highly recommend!

My first time fishing and I enjoyed it even though I did not catch anything. The crew is friendly and very helpful. If it is your first time they will help you set up and teach you how to fish. They have snacks and refreshments available for purchase onboard. You can bring beer onboard with you. It is very kid friendly as well. I would do this again and probably next time I go with a group of my friends.

A home away from home. Everyone is happy and welcoming, and more importantly very helpful and knowledgeable in all that they do.

An amazing place. Capt H was great and got us through our classes including an amazing 20 mile sail around Tampa Bay that went under the Sunshine bridge.

Best experience we have ever had on Lake Superior!! Captain Chris and his First Mate father were supremely talented and knowledgeable about everything nautical. Made us feel so welcome on Relentless. I would give them 10 stars if I could!!

Had a tremendous three days at Black Rock Sailing School in Boston. We were on a first rate well maintained 33 foot boat with Jim, a very experienced licensed captain with many years of experience on the water. Jim has also been a professional educator for a long time and understands how to teach adults. The other two people in the class were also great assets. It was not an easy class but I always felt in control and walked away knowing I could handle a boat like that. Brenton did a great job getting me into the right class and all the materials and instructions were sent to me well in advance. I will be back.

Amazing Captain!!!!!! Make sure you ask for Gary. He is so patient and smart. He made the sailing experience memorable.

Capt. Rick is the best instructor and Captain I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Extremely knowledgeable and reliable. He has transport two vessels for me over 300 miles. He has given me some great tips that have simplified my ability to dock a boat in the most challenging winds, currents and even just navigating through dangerous Chanel’s and Jettis.
-
If you are in need of any boating needs, he is the man for the job.

Thank you Capt Rick 🚣♀️

Captain Tyler de Jong chartered a boat we rented at Blind Pass Boat and Jet Ski Rental. We really enjoyed the day with our family, especially knowing we did not have to worry about the boating ourselves! Captain de Jong is knowledgable, fun and helpful! We did some tubing, and again it was nice knowing we were in safe hands!
Highly recommend hiring Captain de Jong and renting a boat from Blind Pass the next time you want an awesome day on the water!

Outstanding Teacher!
I purchased a 30 foot boat & hired him for 1-on-1 private instruction.
Capt. Rick is wonderful.
He is patient & very positive.
Capt. Rick gets you out on the water immediately. You will have fun practicing what you need to know.
Honestly, in two 3 hour sessions he taught me to undock, maneuver around the marina & dock my 30 foot boat in high winds.
Capt. Rick did not waste any time. He just smiled, he inspected the boat & he had steer the boat out to get on with the business of piloting.
We went all over the marina doing all kinds of manuveers. He just stood next to me, smiled, and he calmly told me what to do while waving at the people watching us.
We practiced until I could do it all with confidence.
He is an outstanding boating instructor.
Thank you Capt. Rick Mendez !

My son attending 2 weeks of Boy Scout Sea Base training. Its dated but the boys didn't care. My son said that they were able to make boring topics either interesting or fun. Teachers are great and helpful. Where else can an 11-Year-Old learn to use a Welding Torch.

Excellent program

I took ASA 101 with Blackrock last year and it was a really great experience. I'd actually been crewing for a while but had no formal training, and during/after the course everyting just clicked. My instructor was Paul Sullivan, and he was awesome -- super knowledgeable and experienced, great at explaining things, and a fun guy to spend eight hours a day for three days with. We had some tough breaks with weather during the course (one day was too rough to go out, and the last day there wasn't sufficient wind), so Paul scheduled us with a (totally optional) makeup day a week or so later. They didn't have to do that, and I really appreciated it. The boat they teach 101 on (the colgate 26) is a dream to sail/learn on, and big enough that practicing on it lets you transfer your skills to a smaller or bigger boat pretty easily. I'm a member of a certain other sailing club in Boston (that also teaches courses), and from what I have seen of many people who have learned at my club, Blackrock is the way to go for sailing instruction. I came out of it a better, more confident sailor who enjoys sailing a lot more now. I'll be doing all of my futher courses with these guys.

Best kept secret in Long Beach. Helping youth enjoy this beautiful location and gain a love for the water.

Excellent management staff. Most convenient location.

Such an amazing trip that goes above and beyond to get a great catch! Chris and Dana were so great to hang out with and it was a total success

Very professional Captain and first mate. We had not fished Lake Superior before and they made sure we knew what to do. The boat is huge and very clean. The mate named Barry took great pictures of us with our fish.

It was our first time to a sea fishing tour. My family and I really enjoyed the whole process! The crew are very friendly, helpful and professional! I'll definitely visit again and bring more friends! Highly recommended!

I recently completed the ASA 101at Black Rock Sailing School with Paul Sullivan. As a novice, I was apprehensive about being able to demonstrate command of the content and my developing skills on the water but Paul is an exceptional instructor who possesses the perfect
combination of knowledge, skill, experience and patience. He is able to teach the most basic skills, peppered with his vast personal and professional experiences, in an engaging yet serious manner. His respect for the power of the sea, wind and air is never in doubt as he conveys the
importance of having the knowledge and abilities to sail safely. And while on the water with Paul he supplied a constant narrative to test, educate and encourage us, translating what we had learned in the classroom into real, demonstrable skills.
I would highly recommend to anyone contemplating sailing or improving their sailing skills to consider Black Rock Sailing School and certainly “the wind whisperer”, Paul Sullivan.

I know mark and I believe in the boston harbor sailing club thats why I joined.

The captain-instructor was very thorough and concise! I feel much safer after attending this course. I highly recommend it!

I took a course here and have been out on a variety of their boats the past 2 years. My instructors, Vern and Matt, were both very informative, complete in their instruction, and had the knowledge base to answer any questions about sailing. The boats are in good condition and Mark was helpful and always prompt with any questions I had about the club or boat reservations.. I would highly recommend BHSC!

At about one thousand dollars cheaper than comparable memberships in the harbor, it's hard to beat the value of a membership here for the mid- to large-boat memberships. Notably unlike other sailing clubs in the harbor is that you can take a boat out for unlimited amounts of time (within reason and the owner, Mark, is the arbiter of reason here), so if you want to take a 1 week sailing trip you can. Other places I looked restricted rentals to 3 or 5 days, or you pay per day over the membership limit.
Additionally, the classes taught here are very good. Vernon is a great teacher and the picturesque sailor. The day sailing class is a great option for someone looking to start ocean sailing and cruising.
Like the other reviews mention, the boats are not in the best condition and they don't seem to do anything about it. Most of the Pearson 26's smell a little funky when you first step inside, but opening the hatches clears the air quickly and I haven't had a problem spending many nights on these boats.

Had a great daysailing course with BHSC! Just myself and one other student with an instructor all day. Learned a lot, did everything on the boat with no classroom instruction, which in my view is a plus. They mail you a textbook to go over prior to the course which is a good idea. Boats I used were sufficient but not flashy. One month's membership included with lessons is a good deal. I had Vern and Dwayne both of whom were a lot of fun and very good.

I have been a member here for 3 years and have no complaints. The value is excellent. The boats are seaworthy. But if you need a spiffy new boat to impress someone, instead of one to sail on... The boats are older but maintained, and as club boats they get used a lot.
I have sailed ALL the types of boats there, from the Sonar, Solings, Boston 27s, Albin 28s and Scampi, J 29s, Pearson 26s, 31s, 34 and 36s and the Cal 33s and 39s. The motors start, the sails raise, and you're supposed to have a chart to navigate anyway, even if the boat has a GPS.
'I have never taken a lesson from Vern but find him very personable. Eric does most of the maintenance and is excellent. I have no complaints.

My husband and I have taken sailing lessons with Black Rock Sailing School and couldn't have been happier with our experience. We did ASA 101, 103 and 104 with Chris and then took a few private lessons with Paul to brush up on our skills the following season. A few years earlier I had taken an introductory class to sailing at another one of the big sailing schools in Boston. Without question, Black Rock Sailing School was the better experience. Black Rock offered us more personalized teaching with a smaller group - there were only 3 people in each each of our classes at Black Rock vs 15 people at the other school. The instructors were also clearly more experienced at Black Rock. I also found Black Rock provided an overall better hands on experience...there were only 3 people on our sailboat compared to 4-5 people at the other school...less people on the boat means more time to learn. I would recommend this sailing school without hesitation.

Celebrating 20 years with Boston Harbor Sailing Club with a membership that has grown as I have grown…

One of the grand-daddy boatclubs of NYC! I especially love their growing canoe program, but they have kayak and sailing too. Lots to learn here and located in a beautiful section of Jamaica Bay.

Great place, for family fun or come as a couple had a very nice time going out on the water this saturday

A fun, eclectic group. Free kayaking Wednesday and Saturday in Jamaica Bay.

I read about this place in a book. Found out that they have free open kayak trips in the summer, so my wife and I got up early one Saturday and joined one.
That first paddle out onto Jamaica Bay blew me away. I never would have thought something like that existed in the New York City limits.
We joined the club a month later and have been a regular active members ever since.
We joined so we could get out there when ever we wanted and the dues include use of the excellent club boats and a cabin in Harriman State Park. There is a small fee to use the cabin, but a very good and inexpensive way to get out of the city.
They are a very active club. Kayak, canoe, sailing, rowing, racing and other activities. They even have winter activities like kayak instruction at a swimming pool, sailing classes, hikes, presentations and even winter kayak and sailing trips for those that have the expensive winter gear.
They cost more than most small boat clubs, but they are more active and membership includes the use of club equipment, which offsets the dues. If you use the club for more than a few times a year, it is worth the money.
The boat storage rates are less expensive than other area clubs for those that have their own equipment.
They are a cost effective way to escape the city and a great source of recreation. The dues are very reasonable for what you get.
I guess I am biased since I've been a member for several years:-)
