Wait to be validated by white people if you are black. Deny, lie, embarrass and incriminate. Only then you may investigate. After Violation and violation and lack or respect. Clueless Policing 👮‍♂️ at best.

Racial profiling is def happening with this and other depts in porter county. what a shame to still have to worry about this
My husband went to store and a memory loss set in called police and officer Wagner who helped me he put a bolo out and he was found inI Lakeville 30 miles away when he contacted phone company and put a ping on his phone number and was found he thought he was still in the heights if not for officer Wagner things might have a different outcome. phone then
The police were friendly and professional when dealing with an theft incident that my fiance was a victim of. The crime in the city has been on a steady decline, so it's fair to give law enforcement some credit.
Tony was VERY helpful worked with me and got me a car the same day I came in!!! Very nice man
Nasty criminals they drive around people’s neighborhoods waiting for them to either pull out their driveway or just getting home and pull them over for not fully stopping at a stop sign nasty creatures
I was followed by a police officer for no reason. I am a African American woman and I never once in my life felt so afraid. It felt as that police officer was trying to do something wrong to me. It is so scary living in this world full of negativity and hatred. What did I do officer? Was you trying to make me the next black person killed by a police officer?
This is a PD that has fostered a culture willing to lie and provide "professional courtesy" when their own officers break the law.
Driving drunk? No worries if you're an officer we'll take you home and forget about it.
Gray Police Department that are doing their best to make sure they follow proper procedures in order to come out with the best outcome. Everyone is different don't judge all police officers and police staff as a whole.
Being the weekend and later hours. Tried to call the Non-emergancy phone number about a sign being moved that indicates a bridge being out. Badge number C62 was short, rude & unprofessional! Makes me concerned as a resident of Portage
1 star for the entire department, they stole 180$ out of my wallet, and still have my firearm after 6 months of waiting..not to mention the threats made towards me and threat of being shot in the head after I shattered my leg in a bike accident...OUTSIDERS BEWARE STAY AWAY! almost forgot...they were going through my Facebook and my phone was in a squadcar for a week while I was in the hospital. I GPS tracked it and geotagged all locations they went (even went to pizza hut) and several times they had it plugged in and CHARGING!
Heavily intoxicated wife assaulted myself and another adult while clutching our child. They didn't even ASK if we wanted to press charges. Didn't even bother having her drug tested at the hospital. Simply baffled...
I’m no longer scared to drive it St. Ann, I’ve noticed a huge change in their officers, new management I suppose. Way to go St. Ann! Keep working with the people!
Police will lie about minor things on police reports just to get a point across. Big red flag there, if they lie about minor things, they will surely lie to cover their own asses. The current police chief has made reports conveniently disappear when it suits his purposes. Most of the officers seem intent on interpreting the law instead of enforcement. Columbia heights could be a great suburb if the police would simply enforce the laws and ordinances they have on the books. For instance, my neighbor has an illegal collector plate on their vehicle. The police have been made aware of the situation by several people, but don't want to pursue the matter. They would rather allow junk vehicles to flaunt the law than earn revenue for the city/state. That is a state law they are ignoring, by the way, and the lack of care goes all the way up in this city. This laziness will drive the people who actually care about what goes on in their neighborhood out, leaving Columbia heights in worse condition than it is now.
I have dealt with Portage police multiple times. Sometimes they do something but usually they refuse and will lie about why that claim they can not make a report. They will do everything you ask them not to such as touching a sensitive area which has a buglers fingerprints, moving evidence around without yet being documented, ext.
There is an officer who thinks he is part of the Boondocks Saints and even has that tats the characters do in the movies. (Please do not think this is a joke, I am serious). He snaps and yells and people when asked the most basic information and is completely ignorant about The Law or his responsibilities/obligation to The People as a police officer. He trys to act like he is in an action film all the time and has no sense of reality. It is kind of like a child in a comic book store was given a badge and has now last his damn mind.
Sadly, I can confirm that there are only a hand full of actual officers here and what is interesting is they are almost all female. I have no idea why that is but the female officers here tend to obey and even know The Law while most male officers are doing.. "Activities" which I am afraid I cannot make public at this time. I will say that I hope this place gets investigated by real Law Enforcement someday and that we become a stronger and safer community. We The People of Portage and America deserve to be served and protected just like the rest of This Great Country.
Racist......One black occupant in vehicle they call for back up. One white occupant they give the ticket and go about their business. Wish I could give them 0 stars.....

Good
most of the department are rookies, known for quick to "shoot first, ask questions later". Always at Bobby & Steve's. Feels like sometimes there's nothing better to do, so minor violations do not go unnoticed.
Awesome opening Day at the Fire and Police Stations
Very corrupt and road crazy with no respect for the average man as everyone is a criminal in their eyes. They will jump out at every corner and ticket people for your hard earned money beware when coming through.
Although in the past st.ann PD got a bad rep (and deserved it in my opinion ), when the new chief Jimenez took over, he made a lot of beneficial changes and weeded out the bad apples. St. Ann is changing for the better, and it takes money to do that. If you don't like the consequences, then don't break the laws. Don't blame the police for doing their job. They are there when you need them, and protecting you from harm even when you don't know it. They care, bottom line, if you give them the respect they deserve, you'll get it in return.
Got arrested and my phone was confiscated and never returned. So my phone was essentially stolen by this police department
I was not allowed a phone call while I was in jail among many other illegal and shady things.
Columbia Heights Finest! They work hard and you better believe they get the job done! I'm very proud to be a part of Columbia Heights and over the years I've had my vehicle broken into and other things like a vehicle accident, but what I needed them for yesterday really allowed me to see just how quickly our officer's perform their job. Someone had gained access to my account and yesterday I found out about it and filed a report. I tell you the truth it wasn't 3 hours that went by that the person was in custody. I would like to thank Columbia Heights police department for what they do everyday, and for how swiftly that acted on my behalf. We may not see their dedication but take it from me, these fine men and women in uniform are working very hard on our streets not only to keep us safe but to make the wrongs that has been done to us right!
pulled 8/21/2014 over for speeding 69/60, detective TESDALL held me without allowing me even a phone call for 24hr. Tesdall wrote that I was allowed "NO communication for 24hrs" over a speeding ticket. I would recommend anyone pulled over by StAnn to immediately start called friends and family to let them know that if the officer decides, you can be held for 24hrs or more without your family or children even knowing where you are.
Its $35 for a collect call from their jail
$100 fee to StAnn for release papers to go get your car from impound (still more $$ to impound yard)
Is you go to post bond its $100 charge to pay via debit card!

This is not a dept that is FOR the people, this is a dept that generates profit to use for paying their salaries and equipment.
