Went there with my grandmother back in 2017. One of the two little houses at the back of the museum is my grandmother’s childhood home. The house was given to her father by the owner of the railway company he used to work at. My grandmother really enjoyed seeing her childhood again. Will definitely visit again and bring her with as well.
Nice setup showing ways people lived, but clearly lacking maintenance on the buildings. Sections will collapse if left as is which would be loss for future generations.

A small museum with free entry. Old jail converted to a museum. Worth a quick visit. Lots of interesting exhibitions to view.

Some interesting items but the museum is a bit worn down
Museum in desperate need of some TLC. Dirty floors, paint peeling from the ceilings, some displays have water damage and a general lack of care. Labels on artefacts are faded and difficult to read. Displays haven't been touched in 20 years.

Really enjoyed this little outing. It’s not just about the Old Gaol, but also has a maritime section, angling section and a lot about the history of Knysna which I found fascinating. No guided tours (I prefer to take my time anyway so suited me fine) & lots of info on the walls as well as QR codes for further reading. AND… it was FREE!

Was a good experience. Could use some better upkeeping, but was still very interesting.
Lovely little underrated museum. It is free to enter, and nice to see the life of the area when it was formed.

Great space where the Knysna Art Society showcase exhibitions. Also houses a museum.
What an amazing experience for the kids. The melktert is made in die wood fire oven and was amazing. The vetkoek wat also made over the fire. Group bookings can be done in advance where they show you all the way things we're made in the olden days.
Could do better and it is very very old I know it is supposed too be like that but maybe make it into a real museum?
Not very easy to find air well kept, but a great piece of history.
The one staff member that was there, was really insightful and friendly. A lot of interesting history of Knysna to be seen.
Sadly a long forgotten heritage site that's no longer looked tended & cared for
One of the best preserved museums in herritage sites ive come accross. No entry fee is required and they have a very rich history of the town of Knysna. A must see when you visit.

We were in and out pretty fast because we came just before closing time, but we saw a few interesting things. You learn a lot about how Knysna was founded and about the lake and the ships that first entered the lake. Knysna has a rich history and it's always fun learning more about it. Would like to visit again some day.
Loved our visit, staff was friendly and helpful.
Kids had a ball.
A beautiful visit to see how life happened over a century ago.

Sadly not as well kept as it could be, although it was explained that these were being fixed.

Still one can fully grasp the history if the first Cape pioneers, see how tobacco was rolled, understand how water generated electricity and see various building and furniture styles.

I can imagine that this museum in fully working order would be absolutely amazing.

The highlight was learning to make candles from animal fat and group bookings can be made for school or adult trips for a variety of homesteading workshops and demonstrations.

There are several animals running about and a donkey cart to take you in a ride.

The museum has a cute little shop that sells handmade candles, gifts and the infamous witblits.

The staff are increadibly friendly, the bathrooms clean and there is ample parking.

منطقة جميلة وبسيطة وحلوة ومريحة
Sad state, but still a cool piece of history
This was not a good experience for us. As you turn left from n2 and right into a narrow creepy road, which is not a clean site, bottels and plastics along the road, branches untrimmed, as you enter a circle look-alike we found homeless people relaxed on the grounds. Not safe at all. We couldnt, didnt want to drive any further as it was a high risk hazzard for unsafe.
The state of service and facility is very bad. For a historical place and museum 🤮🤮🤮 invest in renovating and adding more cultural divers community inclusive activities. Walking around the place, at the 'race track' we saw people drinking in their cars looked like an outdoor shibeen. Where is mamagememt

Well kept. Need more signage for directions and information
Not very safe to stop there. Area run down and neglected. Go with backup
Very nice and scary old dolls, but what a great experience. Service was very nice and friendly, no entrance fee, just donations. All the stuff is very old but very good condition.

Really enjoyed it .Lovely to see our history preserve. The Art galery was amazing.Very interesting display of historical pieces
Nice to visit the museum if you are a fan of history. They are still under construction of a few areas. Some work needs to be done, maybe a pamflet when you enter the museum would be helpful during self guided tour.
When a friend told me to come visit him in Worcester, I seized the opportunity to come to Klein Plaasie Museum. On arrival they offered me a tour guide in a language of my choice. The lady was very friendly, very helpful and the tour was very informative. It is good to know that all of the original display items is kept in perfectly good condition. Much of the activities is in daily operational like soap and candles making, bread baking, wine brewing as well as the famous WITBLITS. At the end of the tour, I was given the opportunity to taste the WITBLITS.
I LOVED EVERY MOMENT AND RECOMMEND THAT YOU VISIT THIS MUSEUM AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE.
There is ample parking and the staff are very friendly. The bathrooms were also clean. The food was average and you need to be patient.
The grave site is fairly beautiful. During late spring when the Agapanthus flowers are in bloom it looks especially neat. However, the site is quite remote and doesn't feel safe. I wouldn't advise anyone to go there alone. But if you can go as a tour group it is a lovely piece of Knysna history and definitely worth the trip.
Great historical value, however the information sign is damaged and there was rubbish lying around
Groups are better off, while visiting privately there is no train available etc
This is a lovely open air museum, just needs to be better maintained and upgraded
