This is one of the 50 copy statues created by sculptor Theo Alice Ruggles-Kitson to commemorate the American soldiers who fought in the Spanish–American War, the Boxer Rebellion and in the Philippine–American War. The first version was unveiled in 1906 on the campus of the University of Minnesota, with the other copies erected across the United States in the following four decades. This one is on the south side of Memorial Ave as you walk or drive across the river to the Lincoln Memorial.
