Geological Museum

Has a great selection of minerals and some fossils (the oldest I saw were from the Devonian period). The highlight was the reconstructed elephant fossil.

The entrance fee for foreigners is 1000 AMD ($2.50)

English descriptions are a bit lacking, though.

This museum has a very good selection of minerals, but not enough information to provide the context necessary for a fulfilling museum experience. If you're lucky you might run into some passionate geologists however!

Hidden place with a bang. The guide was so sweet and went above and beyond in explaining about all the different rocks, geodes and Crystal's. We also touched a meteor and took a selfie with the Mammoth display! A small but fun and informative museum that I would recommend to all!

Geological Museum of Armenia was founded in June, 1938 based on the rich and diverse collections of prominent geologist, Professor Hovhannes Karapetyan and being adjacent to Institute of Geological Sciences of the Armenian branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Museum was formed in 1410 samples, now the museum has more than 14.000 exhibits.

Organization of the exhibition was related to the desire of a group of participants of the 17th International Geological Congress in Moscow to get acquainted with the geology of Armenia. All participants were admired looking exhibits and the Armenian geological excursions. Establishment of the museum was an important event in geological science of the Republic; one united center for centralization, processing, display and storage of materials was created. 1944 after death of H. Karapetyan museum was renamed after him.
