These bad reviews scared me to go there but they were so friendly and helpful. Especially the lady who helped me was extremely professional and nice. I really appreciate her! I recommend you to go there in the early morning.

Hi, to everyone that about to go throught vissa or passport process with this embassy, as mention in other review, there is an extremely and I mean extremely rude and irritated women who you might come in contact with. My experience was so bad as she was just straight up yelling at me through the phone just because i dont understand some part of the process and decided to ask her. If its just one person or two person complaint then it might be the citizen problem but experience this first hand and with many other review complaining about this lady, I think the embassy should do something about it. This agent is here to help people and not the other way around, with a gov agency like this I expect at least reasonable attitude and professionalism from the agent as it is a representation of japan goverment.

I was also creeped on by the security guard here. He made inappropriate comments to me and my mother.

It seems that the consulate lied about taking action because it happened after the other review. Absolutely shameful. I should not have to get harassed just to fill out paperwork.

Also, the people working here a bunch of bullies. The yell personal information over the loudspeaker so the entire room can hear. They're the type that amusement part ticket booths are equipped with so you can hear exactly what every person is applying for and hear them get berated very loudly.

Really mean. One lady was insulting an elderly lady in Japanese about why her kid couldn't speak Japanese.

Backwards Showa attitude. You don't even hear things like that in Japanese city halls anymore.
The staff here at the Japanese Consulate were very friendly, very knowledgeable and very helpful. My first visit, they assisted me in filling out the passport application due to fact, it was very complicated. And the the Japanese year is totally different from USA year. I received the Japanese passport within two weeks without any problems. Once again thank you for your support and hard work.

Finding people to work must be pretty difficult these days.

One of the security guards was hitting on people. One lady was first in line and then he walked up to her, looked at her ticket and told her she had the wrong ticket. He threw her ticket away and picked up another ticket from the exact spot she had already pulled a ticket from.

She ended up losing her place in line and other people now went ahead of her. In the meantime he started asking her if she was married, how old she was, etc. She said she was married and he said he was too with 3(?) grown kids. He stayed by her side the entire time she was there and never paid attention to anyone else.

It was very obvious that he was hitting on her and that he took away her ticket so she would have to stay longer while he tried to talk to her. Pretty sleazy people being hired by the embassy staff here - to not do their job. The Japanese staff working the actual counters seemed to all be friendly.

entrance is around 2cal plaza 350 city national bank (near fourth street which does happen to be underground) for those not around here! there's a small waiting area outside in the shade after checking in early.

The whole process for renewing the passport was smooth sailing. And if I can point out one issue. I would say (the parking as "@TM stated"). We had an appointment at 9:30AM and we also came from San Diego. Arrived around 9:05AM, and let me tell you @TM wasn't lying about the parking price. We were there for only 40+min and it was pricy on that structure. The fact that you have to come back twice is a pain, when you're trying to go in and out. If I can suggest one thing to this building I would say, a stamp free of charge(parking validation) for coming in what you came for.... that including those nice resturants around there.
However,
If you get there early in the morning you have to come back at 3PM
and it only works for those who ain't local to the county(LA). Meaning you can get your passport done in one day.
and let me tell you this, we went back to receive our passport, got there around 2:45PM. I was not going to park down at that structure twice!!
so I decided to park across the building where the parking meter's are at.
I was genuinely aware about the sign reading parking 8am-3pm. I paid the fee with little amount of time we had I was skyptically running up and down just to keep a watch for our car. And on my 2nd time running down GUESS WHAT!!! TWO CARS BEHIND ME WERE TOWED!!
THEREFORE,
PLEASE BECAREFUL WITH THOSE PARKING ENFORCERS!
THEY DONT GIVE A RATS A**
THAT BUILDING NEEDS PARKING VALIDATION
I got lucky i was able to move my car on time
but, a second guy came and just started handing out tickets like no other. PLEASE BE AWARE MY FELLOW JAPANESE AMERICANS
and for the sake of whoever goes to that plaza.
