Wish this had a better selection of horror and science fiction. The lighting is also a little too bright for the cozy vibe most of the store gives off.

Haven't tried the cafe here, so I'm just speaking about the books, but I actually felt that they had a very interesting assortment of books. I've been here twice and found very interesting books both times. In particular, their nonfiction section (while small) is full of very diverse reads. I was able to find books here that I couldn't anywhere else, even online! Likewise, their little section of classic literature is equally fantastic. Again, I don't know about their cafe, but I really recommend visiting this book store.

After reading these reviews, I was excited to visit this bookstore. From an aesthetic standpoint, the store is well maintained and organized and very nice in general. However the book selection was terrible. It’s very limited in genres and I couldn’t find one book that I’d want to read (in mostly into non-fiction but can do a good novel from time to time). If you’re looking for vast selection, this isn’t the store for you. If you’re looking to have a coffee and use the thrift shop for instagram photos, then this is the go to.

Housing Works is part book store, café, and thrift store, carrying (donated) used books of all kinds, CDs, vinyls, clothing, and assorted home goods. They even have crystals, if that's your thing. The prices are reasonable, and you're sure to find some hidden gems. The café in the back has plenty of seating, and the space itself is two floors high, so very spacious and comfortable on a hot day. The volunteer staff are friendly and helpful. Proceeds go towards Housing Works' services that help low-income New Yorkers.

Beautiful bookstore/cafe/thrift place. The interior is spacious and nice. They have lots of book selection downstairs and the upstairs area is a thrift store with lots of designer clothes.

I have a soft spot for bookstore cafés and this is one of the better ones. On a quiet side street I feel like it's one of my "secret"spots in NYC. I always spend a couple hours perusing and having coffee. The atmosphere is so chill.

Really cool bookstore! Got a couple of awesome used books that you can't find anywhere else. Atmosphere and customer service were great!
