Title: Disappointing Experience at Clayton Hotel Düsseldorf

Date of Stay: 24th December to 31st December 2023

Our family stay at the Clayton Hotel in Düsseldorf, from December 24th to 31st, 2023, was unfortunately disappointing, particularly considering the additional 40€ per night we paid for upgraded amenities.

The gym, described as a premium feature, had only three machines (a treadmill, a bike, and a multi-exercise machine), which was underwhelming. A more extensive range of equipment was expected.

A major letdown was the swimming pool. It was unheated, making it too cold for our children, rendering the extra fee for spa access futile. A warm, child-friendly pool is a basic expectation in such an establishment.

We also faced inconsistencies with the gym's operating hours. Despite an advertised closing time of 10 PM, we were asked to leave by 9:30 PM, causing confusion and inconvenience.

The included breakfast offered limited variety and remained the same throughout our stay, lacking the expected standard of diversity and quality for a 4-star hotel.

On a positive note, the service at the reception, particularly from Mrs. Post, was excellent. Her professionalism and helpfulness were the highlights of our stay.

Regrettably, our stay was further marred by the lack of attention to housekeeping details. The bedsheets were never changed during our seven-day stay, which is unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber.

In conclusion, our experience at the Clayton Hotel in Düsseldorf did not meet the expectations for a German 4-star hotel, especially considering the cost. I would hesitate to recommend a stay longer than two nights based on what we encountered.

Great experience! The room is quite and comfortable, the staff are super helpful and warm, especially the staff at the spa. There were some rude and noisy teenagers in the spa when we were there, those staff stopped them in a short time. I will definitely visit there again!

The room was acceptably a good size but it was extremely hot sleeping. Had window open but had to keep curtains closed because of the bright lights in the courtyard.
Called down to request a bucket of ice but the woman did not understand English and hung up.
Overall the hotel was nice but the staff was rude.
You are required to pay a fee to use the sauna and pool, never stayed in a hotel that did that, so wrong!

The hotel is located in the middle of Little Tokyo in Düsseldorf, within walking distance of the main train station. The entrance to the hotel is on the side. The lobby is very elegant and the lobby bar is well stocked. The first room we were given, on the 2nd floor, was horrible - stains on the carpet, old, and run-down. The drain in the shower cubicle had a problem, so when my girlfriend took a shower, the whole bathroom flooded. The maintenance guy couldn't fix it, so we were offered another room. There was no transfer assistance offered - we had to pack up, bring the bags down to the reception to get the new key, and drag our bags up to the new room. The new room on 3rd floor was newly renovated and modern. The room was the same class as what we had originally booked - so that meant the hotel had a better room when we checked in, but chose to give us the old, grimy room. That is not good service. When we checked out, the computer system was down, but as I had paid in advance, it was not a problem. However, I received an email later reminding me to check out. When I called the hotel, it just went to voice mail. However, that problem seems to have solved itself. In summary, this hotel is worth the money if they give you a good room, and the location is excellent.

The pool was great👍. I recommend going at night when there aren't as many people, also if you go at night the view is beautiful. We were able to walk to little Tokyo and the Christmas markets. There is a great ramen place across the street too😋. I absolutely loved this hotel. I definitely will come back! Though the elevator is a little weird.

Stayed here with our family to include a 10 month old. We were in the executive suite. The hotel was very clean and the staff was helpful. The pool was very nice, a bit chilly though. The location is perfect and within walking distance to the Christmas markets and little Tokyo. We will definitely return.

Position is just perfect for both business (easy connection with the Messe) and for tourism.
Breakfast is abundant and very varied, rapidly replenished when something is missing, even at peak time.
Rooms are very comfortable and very silent.
Considering the price paid (Euro 350/night) and the level of the hotel, lack of complimentary items in the bathroom is not acceptable.
On such level hotel, having a single shower/shampoo gel is not acceptable either.
During the check-in, when asking at the receptionist if a minibar was available in the room, receptionist had no idea and had to ask someone else, who finally informed that there is a minibar, but empty, and that snacks and beverages can be bought at the reception. Empty minibar and no complimentary snacks and beverage was also quite disappointing (just one bottle of plain water in a 4 stars hotel and for 350 Euro/night?).
Cleanliness was quite good but highly improvable, specially in the bathroom. Finding previous guests' hair in the bathroom is not nice at all.
As maintenance staff duly turns on any single light point in the room during the cleaning (7 lights in total) it would be nice to have a switch close to the bed to turn them off all together at the same time.
That tricky system for elevator is absolutely not working, specially at peak time. Waiting time is unacceptable and unbearable. Several times when trying to reach breakfast floor (1st floor) we had to use emergency stairs which anyway do not allow to exit at the desired floor, so we had to get out of the hotel from an emergency exit wearing a t-shirt (at mid november), turn around the block, get in again from main entrance, and use the internal stairs which are the only stairs connecting ground and first floor.
