Drove by this museum literally hundreds of times. My wife and I needed a break from driving one day and pulled in to see what it was all about. It costs $10.00 per person and if that seems steep, it won't for long. The museum is actually quite large and sprawling. So much to see and take in. We were very impressed.

Very interesting outdoors museum with many items donated. Replica of little town with buildings you can visit.
Afforded entry fee: 8$ for students with student card.
They also have a building with the SouthPort aviation museum. A lot of military aviation memorabilia as well as photographs.
Nice little gift shop at the entrance as wel where you can buy local crafts about the Fort La reine Museum.

Stopped to eat lunch in their parking lot and decided to visit the museum. Range of topics from local military history, settler history, agricultural history, and church history. Old buildings filled with period items. Well worth an hour to visit. A lot of work has gone into the site. Well done.

We are spending a weekend in Portage la Prairie, and decided to check out the 'Fort La Reine' museum on the outskirts of town. I wasn't expecting much, but ended up being blown away. There is a lot to see, and you're pretty much given free reign to wander around and look at the houses/artifacts. There are about a dozen houses and various buildings from the late 19th century and early 20th century depicting various eras of life on the prairies. There is also a small railway display, and a building dedicated to the military history in the area. Oh, and don't forget the huge Allis Chalmers building FILLED with old tractors and farm equipment.

If you're ever in the area of PLP and have a few hours to spare, check out Fort La Reine museum. It's 100% worth the $10 entry fee ($5 for kids!)

This is one of my favourite museums in Manitoba. It is really well maintained and interesting, with lots of different stories and artifacts. We came twice and spent almost 3 hours with my kids each time.
The staff is very friendly and they strongly recommend covid measures.

A fantastic little museum! You can explore yourself or a free guided tour is available with your admission. I highly recommend the guided tour....you get so much information and fun facts from the tour guide as you're shown everything! Our guide was a just delightful gentleman named Chase. We had a GREAT time on our tour with him. We will definitely be returning for their special events!
