I love visiting the early U.S. Presidents homes. The Hermitage did not disappoint. The house your was great and the tour guides were very informative and enthusiastic about their job. The grounds are clean and beautiful. There's a nice cafe, wine bar, gift shop and museum.
As a fan of Andrew Jackson, this was an absolute thrill! I loved walking through history and trying to feel it as though I was there. The two tour guides in the house acted as though they were indentured servants forced to guide us through the house and showed little enthusiasm for their jobs. I loved the museum on site and thought it to be a thorough look at Andrew Jackson and his life and home. Despite the despondent tour guides and the harrowing price of admission, I believe this to be a true delight for any fan of history.
We enjoyed touring the Hermitage. My son and I enjoy learning about history together. He is 7 years old. I have visited two times, but my first visit was about 25 years ago on a school field trip. This visit was like new to me. We had a great time. The premium guided tour is worth the price. I 100% recommend going that route. We spent about 3 hours touring the grounds and mansion. There is a lot of walking and standing, so be sure to wear some good shoes.
I came here on a Monday afternoon and was basically the only person in the whole place! I did the “In Their Footsteps” tour and it was super informative, I’d highly recommend it. The tour was about $50 per person but it was worth it. Overall the history is very interesting and I’d definitely recommend trying to visit here.
Great tour and beautiful property. Recently did the Belle Meade Plantation tour as well and this one was just as great. I didn't buy tickets in advance because they did not seem to be selling out online. I visited with my mother-in-law and she received a senior discount and I a veteran discount ($24 each).
The property is quite large. It takes about 7-8 minutes to walk to the mansion through the museum. You can head back and see the film if you don't get to it before your tour. I highly recommend watching the 17 minute film, it was excellent.
If deciding between this tour and Belle Meade, biggest differences are this one is more walking and more focused more on a person, better history guides. Belle Meade includes wine tasting for free ($3 here) at the end and is more focused on slavery.
We spent about 2.5 hours here. I could have spent more time but had lunch reservations. I would say budget 2 hours minimum. They will have audio headsets in the future which will be so much better. For now, you can listen to the stops online.

Great amazing historical home well worth the visit! This Presidential mansion is one of the few in America that's fully preserved you must see it to believe it! I took the horse carriage ride it took me around the plantation it was amazing to see so much history! Make sure and visit the gift shop they also have a small cafe, take a step back in history when America was so much simpler than it is today! President Andrew Jackson the ONLY President in America's history to leave office and leave no debt for the incoming President it's never been done again and it never will be!
I honestly was expecting a little more from this place since it costs $20 per person to even step foot on the grounds! I felt like the grounds were a little run down; trees and garden looked a little sad. A pro is that the grounds do allow dogs so my parents were able to bring their dog as we walked around. Staff was friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were clean and you could use those before paying the $20.
