Ordered: Omakase at Vela

Sushi was a bit disappointing... The flavours were not too distinct and the fish didn't taste fresh...
Was served wasabi during the first 2 courses despite asking for no wasabi...

Very good sushi. It's a stand-up sushi bar where pieces are given to you one by one. You can converse with the chef preparing your food which adds to the atmosphere. The sushi quality is very high for Toronto standards and the price is fairly high too. This is not a filling meal but a good snack or appetizer before a meal. The staff were very accommodating and the service was excellent. The uni and salmon roe were particularly good. Worth a try and you will leave hungry with just the set menu.

Amazing. Love love loved the sushi and the experience. We went during 3-5 and received a percentage off. The place is really small and intimate … I love the feel of a small place in Japan. One thing I would suggest is staying true to the time limit. We were out in 15 mins… our server did ask if the speed is okay, but I felt really uncomfortable to say “slow down,” but that’s just me. Still, I would go back.

An incredible dining experience! Toronto’s first standing omakase and the food was phenomenal. The chefs take the utmost care in making and explaining each piece of sushi.

Adorable omakase restaurant inside located in a high end food court. You are given 30 mins to complete the meal while the chef and servers tell you about each individual piece. Special thanks to Helen's exceptional customers service. She went out of her way to help me with answering all my questions. When I had previously come by.

The food quality is exceptional fresh and delicious. I highly recommend coming here to treat yourself to some high end sushi!

This is a great, small place for omakase. It is a 30 minute stand-up place for 11 nigiri and 1 hand roll, reservation required with deposit for no-show. Around $70 per person, with 15% discount from 3-5 PM. Sister restaurant to exclusive restaurant Sushi Masaki Saito priced at $680 per person. Accessible by PATH and in prime location downtown.

The fish is extremely fresh from Japan, imported 2-3 times a week. The chef prepares it in front of you. The chef preparing our food was very friendly, explaining the flavours of each piece and making conversation. Best raw fish I've had - highly recommended. A bit on the expensive side if you're used to going to your average sushi place for rolls, but definitely value for omakase. A great place for a taste of high quality fish without spending too much.

The whole experience was amazing. The omakase sushi set served here is top notch and deserves the recognition. The fish and rice quality were memorable. The ratios were perfect and the order of each piece seemed thoughtfully curated.

We got lucky that we didn't need a reservation. We went during the snow storm when lots of people had canceled. Didn't wait long to get a spot at the sushi bar.

To me it didn't feel rushed even though technically there was a 30 minute time limit.

Would definitely do this again the next time I am back in Toronto.
