Perfect experience with the local seller. I got the mosaic lamp at the cheaper price. Bought so many souvenir and a beautiful ring. Lovely place for shopping, eating and praying

An all inclusive bazaar that is located in the old town with narrow lanes full of vendors. You can find anything including souvenirs, spices, clothing and materials and food over here. The pricing is marked higher as all tourists visit the place but if you can bargain, you can find a good deal.

A bazaar that is very colorful and interesting. Like other bazaars prepare to haggle to get best price. We went mid-late morning and it was great as not many people yet and some stalls not open yet. We stopped by a very old coffee shop where celebrities like Morgan Freeman visited.

This is a huge market and easy to get lost in. It's like a city within a city and there are several mosques worth visiting. I walked through the market with a small tour group for 45 minutes, and then we had about an hour for shopping. The vendors are very aggressive. If you say "no thank you" or engage in any way, they will slow you down. If not interested, it is best not to respond and keep walking. Also, you have the upper hand if you don't walk into the shop. If you go into the shop, they may block your way if you try to leave without buying something. Also, be careful with currencies. Egyptian pounds and dollars are accepted. One of my travel mates negotiated $3 for an item. She asked to pay in pounds and was told 180 pounds. About 30 pounds equal a dollar. She should not have been charged more than 90 or 100 Egyptian pounds. It's hard to know what items should cost. Museums and official gift shops will have fixed prices with good and higher quality. There is a markup, but somehow, I'm okay with that. Street vendors and markets will have street vendor quality. Here is a quick list to get an idea:
Tee shirt - $3 or less, 2 for $5 is an excellent price
Scarves- $1 to $2
Canvas bags - $1 to $2
Egyptian rulers - $1 or less
Dress - $5 to $8 or less
Blouse-$3 or less
Maps, pamphlets, small information books - $1 to $2
Small Pyramids, sphinxes, etc -$1 to $3
Papyrus work - on the street, these are fake -$1 to $3
Magnets normally pack of 6- $1
Bookmarks - 10 Egyptian Pounds (equivalent to about 30 cents) or less

Of course, this list isn't all-inclusive. The point is, you shouldn't be paying a lot for things in a market or off the street. Make sure to check everything you buy for defects. If you want good quality items like alabaster, papyrus, spices, and perfumes, make sure the shop is reputable. You can negotiate in some, but spices and perfumes are normally non-negotiable.

Restroom - If someone is handing you tissue and / or paper towels, it's a service - 10 Egyptian Pounds (equivalent to about 30 cents) is the normal tip. No coin money is accepted.

Remember, nothing is for free. For example, if you are told where to stand to take a good picture, a tip is expected. Please be careful. It's not a good idea to let random people give you directions. Be careful about giving someone your phone to take a picture. They may walk off with you running behind them. You may have to pay a tip to get your phone back.

I really enjoyed the market and felt safe. There is a lot of security everywhere. But it's important to be aware of your surroundings.

You should definitely visit this old town. You will find everything you need from souvenir to home accessories. It’s very antique and presents Egypt culture in a very nice way.

Full of light with a good atmosphere at night. Safe. Prices are great. Food everywhere. Picturesque lovey place. Traditional dancers are entertaining the streets.
Good place to feel market and nationality peculiarities of Egyptian. Pleasant and ready to give a discount!
We wandered the streets and saw a lot of interesting architectural buildings in market area.

Gold, clothes, dishes, souvenirs, restaurants, sweets - all of them you can find here.
