Delays, delays, delays. Waiting for suitcases for almost an hour. No estimated time, no announcements, nothing. Unbelievable that this is the airport of one of the biggest and most modern European cities.
COVID NIGHTMARE!
Undoubtedly one of the nicest airports in the world. Every time we’ve passed through Schiphol airport our experience has always been stellar. If there wasn’t a pandemic going on then this review would be very different. However, since we are in the midst of a pandemic, I feel the need to share with other travelers what an utter failure it was on the part of Schipol to provide safe passage to the thousands of travelers on 12/11/20. One would expect that a major hub like Schipol would be a wee bit more prepared to handle a not so busy travel day during a pandemic.... that they would be sufficiently staffed and have the necessary steps in place to ensure that travelers could safely socially distance while passing through their airport.
Our flight path was from Stockholm to Los Angeles with an hour layover in Schiphol. We’ve traveled this flight path before and during Covid, and it’s always gone seamlessly.
Landing at Schiphol we made our way to customs, and to our connecting flight. To our utter shock, as we approached customs, we encountered a bottle necked cluster of over 1,000 people packed (and I mean PACKED) shoulder to shoulder, at a complete stand still, all waiting to pass through customs.
As we arrived at the back of this sea of humans, our flight to LAX had already begun boarding. With just 35 minutes to spare and zero agents in sight to help guide us through, we squeezed our way up to the middle of the crowd, finally locating an agent who impatiently pointed off into the distance, telling us to stand in the “fast moving cue”. As you can see from the photo, there was no visible cue, and definitely no “fast moving” part of the crowd.. only over a thousand bodies packed tightly into one spot with zero movement in the direction that we needed to be going in to catch our connecting flight.
People were panicking because of the lack of social distancing, others were shoving because they were trying to get to their departing flights... over 1,000 people packed tightly together, all breathing the same air. TALK ABOUT A COVID NIGHTMARE.
I won’t go into more detail, or talk about the umpteen ways that they could have avoided this dangerous and chaotic situation, but needless to say that this was an awful experience. We somehow pushed our way through the crowd, through customs and ran to our connecting flight, arriving just as doors to our plane were closing. Travelers beware!!!

One of the best airports I've been to. Security check is like a dream - they don't ask you to take your laptops out, and you could bring as much liquid as you want through. It's so fast as well, barely any queues for passport check or security. Has variety of shops and bars, and smoking areas are available everywhere! Great airport, for other countries to take an example from!
It still is great to fly from or arrive at Schiphol airport! Fresh, modern and lots of things to see, buy or fly. Prices always crazy but very pleasant in comparison to most foreign airports. Feels well organized and as safe as an airport can feel nowadays. I love being there! How long till we have electric planes?
Nice airport with the expected amount of eateries and shops for an airport its sice. Spacy areas makes it easy to navigate. Only tried the airport for transit (on several occations), and what seperates it from most other airports is the vast amount of comfortable waiting chairs. Excellent if there are delays and such. Clean and numerous toilet fascilities.
Nice airport. Everything is easily founded. Lots of restaurants and shops.
it is better if they give train number on the display, the train station under the airport is not well lighted.
