Salton Sea Campground

There's a "no trespassing- California penal code" sign at the entrance. I'm not familiar with the area, didn't know if this was a recent change or has been there and just ignored. We didn't stay there but wanted to leave the info for others looking to boondock. If the sign doesn't deter you, it looks like it used to be a campground with overgrown but visible gravel "sites", and would be able to handle bigger rigs just fine.

Free camping and beautiful scenery.
If the wind comes from the Salton sea you will have the opportunity to appreciate the smell of a dying polluted body of salt water.
The area seems very popular with powered paraglider enthusiasts.

Just a quick stop but timely. There was Para gliders? There that day so the beach was busy and colorful. The water was a long ways away but you could smell it some.

Arrived late at night. The smell was a little extreme but doable. Lots of generator noise. When we went outside in the morning we were pleasantly surprised. Lots of activities going on. Ultralights were taking off and landing. Also paragliding were doing there thing. Very interesting to watch. We walked to the beach to check it out. A real pity what man can do to there inviroment. All in all a very unique day. Glad we came...

Free, close to the Salton Sea, great place if you fly or enjoy watching powered paragliders

I mean it's free and I'm cheap so that's super cool and I'm thankful for that. There is half a picnic table and a couple rock fire rings. The wind blows like hell and the dust is intense. The sea smell like death. It's an awesomely powerful place.

Pretty awesome place, had a pit to burn some wood. Unfortunately for me I came in on a windy night so it went by quick. Other than that, beautiful sunrise and everyone around was to themselves and quiet.
