This square serves Metro Line A and is very close to the main Termini station. The beautiful Fountain of the Naiads is located in the middle of the piazza and to it's right the basilica, Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri.

Several of the ticketing machines were not accepting my credit cards at the Repubblica station. After several failed attempts, I needed help because I was getting screen error message and the printouts were in Italian language. When I tried to get assistance from the (male) booth attendant nearest the window, he denied helping me at all and continued speaking to his (female) booth attendant. I’m guessing “being friendly and helpful” was not on the job description.
Many robbers at Colosseum and Metro.
They are breaking into the cars and stealing money from your marsupial bags. They are so experts, little girls and women!!!They distract you with questions and work 2-3 people together. Italian government should do something about this! You leave Italy, a beautiful place, with a bitter taste!

It's sometimes like a bomb went off but it's very livable! After the shock you know everything is possible of you try. It’s a great location.

Piazza della Repubblica

Designed during the urban redevelopment undertaken after Rome was declared capital of Italy, the Piazza della Repubblica is one of the most important squares of the city, and extremely striking.

The Piazza della Repubblica is made up of a large roundabout with an exquisite fountain, surrounded by imposing buildings on one side and a seemingly demolished temple on the other.

It was formerly known as the Piazza dell'Esedra because it was laid down on the remains of an exedra (a semi-circular open room with seating) from the Diocletian era.

Fontana delle Naiadi

At the centre of the Piazza della Repubblica stands the majestic Fontana delle Naiadi. It was constructed between 1870 and 1888 and decorated with four lion sculptures. In 1901 the lions were replaced by the statues of four nude Naiads (water nymphs). Their nudity was subject of much controversy at the time.

One of the most beautiful squares

The Piazza della Repubblica is a main point of interest in the city. After visiting the square and discovering its grandiose buildings and romantic Fontana della Naida, we recommend walking to the nearby Baths of Diocletian and visiting the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli.
