Is not a bad place to be. You also get to go into one of the houses that kept of the nice paintings on the doors, ceiling etc. I enjoyed it because the artworks are so sophisticated and refined. You need to Q and remove your shoes. If you have big baggage, you will need to put into the locker. Don’t worry, you will get the money back.
One thing to note, please be considerate and don’t talk too loud and walk too fast creating a lot of sound on the wooden floor, it will affect those that is trying to appreciate the artworks.
The only disappointment was you cannot go up the castle. It was not open to public.

The main castle is closed so only the garden and a reconstructed manor of the lord is accessible. The villa is faithfully reconstructed according to old plans and has multiple beautiful murals. Parts of the garden is closed of due to ongoing renovation work on the outer stone wall and will remain closed for a longer time
You can see the amazing castle from close by, and also go walk inside the old Nagoya residence of the Shogun which had a really pretty traditional Japanese interior (no furniture though).
It's surrounded by a park and a gravel field that was really spacious and the whole place was not crowded when we went on Tuesday afternoon, even though it is Chinese New year, which was nice.
Small entry fee, tickets can be bought at the main gate.

We've been here on a Sunday in January.
I think because of that we had nearly no waiting time.
It's a beautiful place with lots of history and rebuild with a lot of pleasure.

Came to Nagoya Castle for a day trip from Kyoto. It wasn't busy when we arrived at 9:30am. The main castle you cannot enter but there is a building that you can enter. No shoes are allowed inside and they will instruct you to put the shoes and bags into the provided free lockers. Slippers are also provided if you need them. There is also a photo area where they take your photo and provide a free photo card with a download link at the castle entrance (large photo is 1200 yen). Overall a beautiful place to visit.
Beautiful castle and very well organized for visitors. We visited on the New Year season and it was quite crowded but everything went smoothly. The main castle wasn't opened for visitors due to renovation but the Honmaru Palace was available to visit.
