Bureaucratic hell-hole where laziness meets incompetence. This office made me lose faith in humanity.

After filling out a marriage license online I called because I had some questions about how everything works. The lady on the phone wasn't pleasant and made me feel like I was bothering her. Just very snappy in responses and I was really bothered by that. I've never been married before ( first time) so I had maybe like four five questions. And I still don't have the information I need because she seemed to be annoyed with every question I'd ask, so I didn't bother even asking the rest of the questions. Bummed out.

The clerk that handled our paperwork could not be bothered to hang up her phone and properly attend to us. She held her phone to her ear and gossiped and cackled (like a pigeon) with the person on the other end, while entering our information in the system. After she incorrectly spelled my name twice, I gently offered her correction. The young lady was not happy that I interrupted her phone call, and responded with an eye roll. The OLD me would have made quick work of her, but I have matured, found Christ, and worked on my anger issues. It is sad that the standard for Civil workers are so low. It is common knowledge that it is virtually impossible to be terminated from a city job. This knowledge fosters a culture of unprofessional and crass behavior. Getting my license was one of the happiest days of my life (rivaling the day that I picked up my divorce decree), and that warm and fuzzy feeling saved the rude young lady.

I called today to ask how to check the status of a filing. The woman immediately complained about how busy she was and instead of telling me where to go, she told me to "call back next week" and hung up without giving me her name. The interaction was maybe 15 seconds.

Such a high calibur tax-paid employee... I still dont have the info I need.

Update: I tried again the next week and whoever it was (might have been the same person, still gave no name) gave the same response and I ended up having to contact the other person in the filing myself.

I should NOT have been forced to personally contact the other party. I am beyond disgusted that I was forced to be in that position. The city needs to fire the dangerously incompetent and unmotivated staff here.
