i received last October 2022 an email from the management team about an inquiry for the waiting list of affordable housing i saw on the NYCHDC website, i made an appointment and went to meet up at the building ,. the manager was very pleasant , her assistant was the opposite.
i filed up the application and spent a great time explaining my current situation as a consequence of Covid19,
the manager sent the documents to NYC HDC for approval . The agency approved me few days after that , i was very happy , Meanwhile the assistant manager got me into a tenant screening nonsense agency that resulted in a very much false and inaccurate report , resulting that to move in i was asked to pay a full month security deposit . I told management that i could not afford this deposit because of my current living situation , (Living in a super8 motel costing me $5.000 monthly), all my salary and savings are gone , technically i am a homeless , a working one .
i asked if there were a way to accommodate or if the building was working with a Guarantor agency , like the ones recommended on NYCHDC website , the answer was a big NO, i asked if i were able to get an emergency security deposit voucher if they would accept it , again a big NO NO.
closing to the move in date i received phone calls from assistant manager , the last one she was almost screaming at me while i was explaining again and again my situation , witch i was honest from the beginning of the process , all of this has been super Shady, how come a well financed tax payer money building refused to accommodate a NYCHDC approved applicant , homeless , with the means to pay the full rent , but not able to afford the security deposit to move in ,
i felt discriminated , it is sickening to be treated this bad by some shady incompetent power drunk assistant or manager when life is already been much abundant with difficulties
