Im a real Herb Caen fan " A city without a Tenderloin is not a city" caught my eye as I was standing in front of Hotel Cadillac.

What a great find and only 10 minute walk from our hotel. Very small but dense and full of interesting history, forcing ourselves to open our eyes to some of the reality that so many of us try to shield ourselves from. Yes, you do pass through an area where people are literally living on the sidewalks and acknowledge some folks may not feel comfortable with. We never felt unsafe walking to the museum at 10 am but would not go into the area after dark. Well worth the visit.

Tenderloin is a wonderful place. TL museum is even more wonderful. The staff and the guide are all passionate about their work and are knowledgeable. Visit here any day of the week except Mondays to learn more about the history of TL, how it came to be.
Fun fact: admissions are free for TL residents in Wednesdays.

Small but wonderful little museum that provides a rich history of the Tenderloin area. We did the night walking tour and it was great! Also love the number of interesting and relevant books on sale.
