True Confections Broadway

No one was eating there when we visited around 450pm on a Tues and most of the cakes were available in slices. We got slices to go. Staff was friendly, efficient and no wait.

I tried a slice of coconut cream cake, and it was delicious. It was moist and spongy, and had the perfect amount of sweetness. It was pretty pricy though, at over $10 for a slice.

Beware! The Diplomat Cake we had ordered was very disappointing. It was not like any diplomat cake I have ever bought before. Instead of numerous layers of puff pastry, there was only one thin layer in between two large slabs of dry and tasteless white cake. I think the cake must have been previously frozen because the day after I bought it (and kept it covered in the fridge), it was like sawdust. I will certainly never buy anything from True Confections again!

True Confection or True Disconnection?

As I recalled from memory lane, this used to be bumping and the place to be for good desserts and drinks, both locations were packed and lineups. Honestly, I even had one of my businesses sell some of the desserts back in the days. What happened?!?

Fast forward it to nowadays, the service at the West Broadway location was horrible and the Denman location, extremely slow and barely passable when there was only 3 tables of customers. Plus some drinks were out or too late to make it when it’s an hour before closing??

Overall, I visited both locations and the services just weren’t like before. The atmosphere was similar to wandering around an abandoned mall and the food just not it when compared to similar bakeries nearby.
I guess just like many thriving businesses, got too comfortable with its success and didn’t put in the effort to catch-up with time until it’s too late.
It really saddens me for a second when I see such thriving businesses from before became nothing but just an afterthought, a True Disconnection from its glory days.

Tried the coconut cream pie. It was pretty delicious. Big piece of cake - could easily share between two people. I came in on a Sunday afternoon. Very quiet so I could study at the same time. It's a bit pricey for a piece of cake plus coffee so it'd be better to share with a friend 😊.

👍🏻Banana cream pie: I have never been a fun of anything made of bananas, but this pie has changed my perspective. It was light and creamy, not so sweet with a hint of banana, i finished the whole slice by myself
🫸🏻Tiramisu: the finger cookies to cheese ratio was a bit unbalanced, the cheese cream was not so sweet and creamy but the cookies were soaked, but I felt not with coffee liquor but sugary water, so the entire cake was too sweet and watery
👌🏻Chocolate banana cream pie: usually banana and chocolate would go pretty well together, but not for their banana pie. The chocolatey flavor overpowered the fragrance of banana which i enjoyed the most, so I’d recommend trying the original version instead

The Missus and I had visited different True Confections outlets during our courtship. So we decided to reminisce those happy days with some cake at the Broadway location. We also returned on a different occasion for a take away order.

The service was okay and and we were promptly served. We understand it's difficult to find workers these days but a smile with the service would have been nice. Of the cakes ordered, the Classic Chocolate was our favorite. It's $9.75 a slice but we found it was large enough to share between us. It's defintely the best chocolate cake we've had in a while.

The dessert date brought back nice memories and we will be back to try some of the other cakes offered.
