Stop in here and discover a whole world of San Francisco cable cars. It's a free museum and really well done with lots of information, original cable cars, and the inner workings of the still running cars. We spent about 1.5 hours here and then rode an actual car, which stop frequently outside the museum.
Awesome FREE museum showcasing history and interesting artifacts of San Francisco's cable cars, birth place of the cable car! This museum is still actively running the equipment and machinery that enables the cables cars to function around the city, which you will have a great view of during your visit. The museum has a very affordable gift shop as well! Short walk from Chinatown, a must see!
If you don’t get to ride the Cable car you are missing out!!! you have to take apart of San Francisco with you so go and ride the Cable car and see the sights it’s worth it then head yourself down to the Wharf for some clam Chowder and seafood that’s made hot and enjoyable the views spectacular. The Cable Car experience gets you to the point it’s worth it you are able to see some hot spots of the city and more, having a Operator ring the bell and call out stops for us it’s nearly the best experience to have in San Francisco.
It’s a cool museum for a quick stop to learn more about how the cable in SF works.

Visit duration: probably around 15 to 30 minute depends on, how curious you are to learn about the history of the cable car.
Two floors to check out but mainly more things to see on the upper floor. 2 mins downstairs is enough. Bring cameras to take photos or film!

Free and fun to explore the history. It is not too big, there are two levels but the downstairs is very small. I loved the back history and conflicts that occurred. Great place to bring kiddos to see how the cars work! Great learning experience. I would have liked someone there to ask questions and give feedback. We went in the morning around 11 AM on a Sunday and it was somewhat busy.
This is a nice museum. Loved looking at all the history of the cable car. It's free so definitely come take a look.

Great place to visit to get some good history of the San Francisco cable car history. A lot of information is on the walls and there is a video too. Spent an hour here and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Free entry and donations are appreciated.
