Alexandria Finance Department

This is a scam. This is not a real government tax office. They are trying to steal your identity.

Told them last year I moved and still sent me a bill. Who ever runs this place should be fired.

Customer service is fantastic; I'm just a bit confused about how much vehicle tax they charge, yet the roads are garbage. I swear I thought my engine fell off from how deep the whole on N Henry St. They really need to be audited!!

Honestly, I don't think I have ever experienced such misery over the phone in my life. No matter who you talk to, they're all miserable/rude/nasty towards people. You can say hello to them with the nicest and most sincerest tone and they'll still talk to you like you are the reason for their misery. Being on the phone with these people made ME depressed.

Live out of state and purchased a property in March of 2022
I was advised at closing that the taxes would be due in the summer ( information along with the small avalanche of papers etc)
Alexandria was notified to send my tax bill to my home
They did not
They sent it to the sellers mortgage company
I called today and after a fruitless discussion, was told i owed my taxes ( fair) as well as some penalties ( less than $200)
My title closing office called and though our side was completed correctly, they hadn’t entered the information correctly, I received the baffling recitation of Their not needing to do their part
But I would owe them these additional monies

I called to ask them a simple question: "Once I pay my late tax bill, how long does it take to release the hold on my vehicle registration renewal at the DMV?" DOMINIQUE (the representative I spoke to) immediately gets defensive with me and says I paid it too recently and that I need to give more time. Totally understand that, but don't appreciate the attitude! She was SO RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. They should really take a look at who is answering their phones. Simple question, simple answer. No attitude required, Dominique. Get a grip or don't work there!

Ms McCormick of this office is very competent - and a kind person. Alexandria is lucky to employ her.

They randomly send property tax bills to those who no longer live in Alexandria (nor have cars registered in Alexandria) and do not verify addresses of those former residents. They also do not apparently record when mail is returned as undeliverable, but rather send unpaid bills immediately to collections and start charging interest. I have to give at least one star, but I'd give zero if I could!
