A-class food with consistent high quality (2009 vs 2024); However the waitress’ service attitude is NOT on par with the food quality at all. Hope this last piece can be improved.

Really good local food and very nice people that served us. They also gave us some nice tips for sightseeing in Cologne and were really friendly in general.

Our group visited on a Friday night. Only outdoor seatings were available and we took them.

Ice old beer, crispy pork knuckles, tasty sausages and flavorful ribs. Everything's delicious.

Our waitress was super friendly and efficient. Food arrived quickly even the place was packed.

Cigarettes smell from tables around could be annoying though.

Will recommend.

This is one of the places that has a great story behind. The owner Freddy was so kind to explain it to us. Once you enter the restaurant you need to pay attention to the floor. The floor tiles are taken from the old Cathedral and blessed by the priest. So literally you are dining in the holly place ;)
Another thing is that it has the spirit called the Old Lady.. that in a way keeps the atmosphere alive :)
But the best part of it is the owner who not
only opens his doors to his guests but also his heart by greeting every guest and sharing the story of Hexenhaus. We definitely will be coming back for a wonderful and yummy food as well as for the ambience that place has to offer 🙌🏽🫶🏽

I am a regular here. The service, ambience, and food quality are exceptional and take the quintessential German experience to the next level. Authentic is an understatement. I have tried every Haxe, side dish, and always complete my meal with a desert and half meter of Kölsch. The freshness, textures, layers, temperature, and overall quality are incomparable when you’re looking for the traditional German food experience. The meat is so tender and moist it is literally falling off the bone, yet the skin is so crispy and flavorful that it can even be purchased as a side item at the bar on occasion. The coziness, decor, and history of the building is another factor in and of itself. The building was built in the 1100s and is even older than all of the Cologne cathedrals, much less most buildings in the northern hemisphere. The history is palpable and adds to the overall experience. The reason this restaurant does not have a 5-star rating is a mystery to me. Long live Haxenhaus!

This place is just wonderful! Lovely wait staff, delicious food (you can take away what you can't finish) and such a sweet owner 😊.

Very lively atmosphere without being overbearing. Excellent location in the center of Cologne, walking distance from the cathedral and right by the Rhine river.

Dined alone but definitely didn't feel lonely. I highly recommend this place. The winter menu pumpkin soup was amazing, the pork knuckles and the snaps, all amazing good German food.
