This is an amazing piece of history that I've been near since 2016 and I've just now visited and walkthrough
Such a neat quiet corner to enjoy. A cool piece of history hidden in the shadow of everything else in DC.
Fort Washington Park is a gorgeous spot along Potomac River in Maryland. Has some picnic tables, old fort, and soldier's barracks to discover, short walking trail and a visitor center. Hope the management will add more walking trails!
I liked this place a lot. Very beautiful spot to embrace Potomac. You can fish, or have a light picnic next to the river. Entrance is free. Restrooms available.
Going in the morning (around 10am on a weekend) is a good time. It's a large park area with plenty of parking. Realize when you go into the park there's lots of walking and the stairs require being careful and cautious.
If you live in DC, it's an easy drive.
When you go look through the windows of some of the offices, you can see old furniture, I found that fun.
