What to say about the Madrid-Barajas Airport?

This is a huge airport worthy of being in the country's capital city.
The quantity and quality of food and beverage, as well as retail outlets, is really amazing, no matter the gate.
It's worth mentioning that the connecting flight board is not placed on the main corridor when you exit the airplane. Only the flights for those gates are there. Instead, walk more towards the inside where you see the signs for Baggage Claim, and then you'll see the connections listed, and this board/screen is much bigger. Additionally, the signals to take the tram/train to gates S and others miss the opportunity of showing where the elevators are when you come from the right, as you see signs to turn there but it doesn't say that only escalators are available there, so you have crawl back out, passing these metal poles, to then find the elevators, which are crowded with people that don't need them, as they don't have wheelchairs, baby strollers, or other mobility vehicles, and they don't yield the right to use the elevator to those that do, but that's another matter in itself.

Other than that, this airport is very cool and modern, and ensure you won't be bored.

This airport, better known simply as Madrid-Barajas, is the principal international airport in Spain and home to the national carrier IBERIA as well as Air Europa and, by extension, a hub for Oneworld. It is a major European gateway to Central and South America.

The airport is located within the area of Barajas on the northeastern side of the city and is well connected. That includes a metro station for terminals 1/2/3 and another for T4 with connection to the main railway stations at Chamartin and Atocha.

T4 being the newest and most aesthetically pleasing serving Iberia and oneworld with some other select airlines and is frankly the one to visit. It is further subdivided to T4 and T4S (sattiliate), which is a 10-minute underground APM ride away (airside) where non-schengen international flights operate from. It has a unique yellow color palate with high cielings with wide spaces which makes it stand out, once airside you find yourself in T4 proper with its own duty free, gates and services afterwhich uou make your way down the labrynth of escaltors and elevators to the APM station to T4S (so factir the time needed for that) which is overall very similar.

The duty-free area is not the largest or best equipped but serves the purpose with multiple lounges located in either T4/T4S. Connecting at T4 was a bit slow, particularly at passport clearance, but on par with other international airports, pay attention to the sinage and color coded gate areas.

T1/2/3 are located further south and operate for most other airlines in different capacities. T3 is currently closed. These terminals constatite the original old Barajas airport and have a different feel and design to them, they can get qiute crowded and are not as relaxing to travel around as T4 but none the less offer the services one expects from an international airport.

We took a flight from Madrid to DFW Airport. At the time, the line to American Airlines counters were short, so we got through pretty quickly. Finding the security checkpoint was not hard. There are plenty of shops outside and inside of security, but more outside.

Our driver took us to terminal T4 instead of T4s. So, we had to rush to switch terminals. They are not close together. Trams are available, but they are in the basement. Fortunately, there are elevators and escalators, but that would be a difficult journey with little kids. Be sure you know the difference between T4 and T4s and that drivers take you to the correct terminal.

It's quite an unfriendly airport with a lot of unmotivated staff members. Transportation service staff can't really speak english so communication could be an issue. It's Euro 30 to get to the city if you're hiring a taxi, otherwise you could purchase a transport card yourself. If you plan your trip well you can then decide which card to buy, otherwise good luck trying to get information from the counter desk 😂 At departure, we took a while to find the water fountain. Not enough toilets. It's quite a big airport though but people are rather unfriendly around here.

Its a huge modern airport with Gates far apart. I landed on the K gates and my connecting flight was from M gates for which I nearly had to walk for 15 mins and take a train to reach M gates.
But the transfers were smooth. Airport has lots of option to eat and rest.

A rather large airport offering national, regional and international flights from the heart of Spain.

Well connected to the city with various means of public transportation methods including metro, buses, and cabs.

You can find cash machines and exchange centers, as well as well-labeled signs to lead your way through the different terminals.

Handicap friendly, and with plenty of child changing rooms for parents as well as some small play areas for the kids.

Shops are very busy and lines are long.

Staff is very friendly, and helpful.
