Everyone who works with this organization is incredible! From the adoption counselor to the foster family, everyone has the best interest for the dogs in their care. Dealing with this organization is a breeze, the adoption process is straight forward, communication is hassle free and the dogs are healthy, happy and ready to come home to their forever homes. Adopt always, never shop for dogs. Be the difference with Coastal German Shepherd Rescue.

Second time rescuing from this organization. Most of their dogs require socialization work but if you're able to put in the time and effort these dogs are amazing companions. Please make sure you do your research beforehand and understand the commitments for shepherds and other large breed dogs.

We will always adopt a rescue but we weren't really looking for a "Shepherd" exactly- just a dog that would be the best for us. Actually, my wife cruised Coastal's web site often and eventually became attracted to a dog that wasn't a Shepherd at all.

Once we completed the home visit process (Cal was great) we went out to have a look. Lorraine introduced us to the dog that my wife was initially interested in and we found he wasn't the right fit. After Lorraine asked us some questions, she then offered some suggestions and showed us a couple more dogs. There was one in particular that she said we would love right off. She was right. After filling out some paperwork, we took our new baby home.

Coastal is one of the few rescues that will take in senior dogs and those with medical histories. Had that not been the case, our new family member might not be alive today. Thank you to Lorraine and Cal (and everyone at Coastal German Shepherd Rescue) for your input, your knowledge and your love for canines.

We've adopted both our dogs (1 German and 1 wannabe: Alli in 2014 and Bucket in 2018, now known as Maddie and Marlo) from Coastal and they are a top notch organization that truly cares about the dogs and making sure they are placed with the right family.

This review is long overdue! We had to re-home our German Shepherd a couple of years ago. The process was challenging as we loved our dog. We simply could not give him the life he deserved and needed. Lorraine was honest with us in the beginning. The goal was to find him the right home. Not just any home. With patience and support from both sides we found Gonzo the best home. We still think about him and ask for updates of his progress. Two years later, it is wonderful to hear positive news from his new owner. I trust this rescue and could not be happier knowing he is in good hands. They have the dogs best interest in mind and I’ve very grateful.

We are approaching the one year anniversary of adopting our beloved Buddy from Coastal and we are so impressed and grateful for the wonderful work these folks do! Lorraine was great to work with and although the application process involves screening, etc. we totally understand this is in the best interest of the dogs. They are a wonderful group who really work hard to help do many abused, abandoned dogs who simple want a loving family and forever home. They really care for the dogs and are not just trying to place with the first person who come along (and may not be the best fit. Someone commented the fee was too high for a “mutt”- I found this comment so ignorant and disrespectful. Coastal cared for my poor abused guy for 9 months all on donations and caring volunteers. The $300-400 fee is a fraction of the cost to care for a dog for 9 months or longer. Do you really think a dog from a breeder is “more valuable”? I think you should reconsider your values.

Shepherds are the best dogs and Coastal German Shepherd Rescue is absolutely the best place to get yours! I've grown up with Shepherds since I was a child, back when you bought them from breeders. Now there are too many amazing dogs looking for homes because people don't understand the amount of work it takes but the reward it provides when you put in the effort. Coastal takes in all Shepherds no matter the situation or their condition. They train them, socialize them, provide medical support and get them ready for adoption. When I was ready to adopt my most recent Shepherd they were very upfront about his background and current needs (not the best hips). I also needed a dog that got along with cats and they're very honest in that regard for dogs that probably wouldn't do well. Join them at their adoption events or check out their website but I guarantee you'll have a positive experience in your search (at Animal Control I always feel so bad for the ones left behind that I just can't go, at Coastal, none are 'left behind', they will all be taken care of for their life). You'll also go home with a dog that might not have started with the best life but Coastal will have already improved it enough for them to be comfortable with you and in your home!
