Omg.... I'm not sure why I have been in the city for over 40 years and never heard of this beautiful place. The scenery was absolutely stunning, and the natural environment was relaxing and breathtaking.
First time visiting. Didn’t know this place existed until it came up as an option for our engagement photo shoot. We used a company called Shoott and they suggested the location and our photographer toured us through it to try different styles. It’s absolutely breathtaking for fall/spring/outdoor shoots. And the scenery makes a great spot for recreational activities. Holcomb Gardens is worth your visit if you’re in Indianapolis.
The Butler university grounds are so incredibly beautiful, no matter what season. I’ve known about these secret gardens for a while, but just recently brought my husband and kids to see it. We didn’t make it all the way through due to prom or graduation or something, but absolutely plan on returning sometime soon.

I'm an Indianapolis wedding + engagement photographer & absolutely love to recommend Holcomb Gardens to my clients. It is such a hidden jem in the Indy area and has such beautiful grounds to take photos on. I'm frequently shooting here because it is so gorgeous!
I love walking around Holcomb gardens. The bell tower rings every hour. There is a nice koi pond as well.
Small park which is part of Butler U.. Good for afternoon relaxation and/or dog walking. Perhaps due to covid, the flower beds are abandoned. Adjacent to canal. On the bank of the canal, opposing the park, is a nice path for biking, running or hiking. However, dog walking is not allowed there.
Beautiful grounds to walk around and enjoy some peace and solitude. It was surprisingly not busy even though the weather was perfect the day we visited. It was a perfect spot to bring a picnic. Parking was also easier than I expected. And if you come, make sure to take the path to the nearby lake, fountain, and bell tower as that is another really pretty area as well.
