Our family arrived to Fort Jackson January 15, 2017, we decided to live on post to ensure security and education for our two kids. This school has seemed to not live up to standards, we've had three incidents within two months of my son attending this school. First our kid was sent walking home (when he was a car rider), at that time we've only had two days living in post. My son didn't know the address nor the direction the house was, since all house are similar. The second incident, we walked to school and it was 5 minutes until the bell rang, the lady at the door shouted "hurry up", I said can I say good bye, she replied "next time walk faster". My husband and I decided that it wasn't the proper approach to speak to parents let alone children. We brought it up to the principals attention, unfornutnely I had no names and we let it slide. The third and finally straw we had was Yesterday around 7:50 am, I wanted information regarding my son's lunch. When one of the enrollment secretaries quickly "snapped" her fingers at my son, commanding him to go to his classroom, I was to calm her on it. I instead I retained myself from embarrassing her and calling her names, I went to the cafeteria came back through the office, the same person didn't snap her fingers to the kids who were actually late and happened to be different color of skin. She snapped her finger to a Mexican American kid who was early to school and all he wanted was to pay his lunch. What kind of human being snaps her fingers to a child that's not hers, I personally don't do it. My son came home and I had to speak to him, he said when someone treats you like that I front of adults makes you feel humiliated. He's not comfortable attending school, I am mortified because now my son is in a school where they snap fingers in front of the parents. This whole ordeal makes me anazlyze how the treat the kids when parents are not around them. We are left with the uncertainty, an apology wont stripped the way the person made my son feel. An "I am sorry" will not be tolerated for treating a kid one way and the other one not. This school has left me disappointed, my son has always attended public school, Laura Rodriguez Elementary was the school my son loved, the principal was walked and said Hello to all the parents. Columbia Elementary was all white school, my son was the only Mexican american kid not once we felt he was treated differently. As a matter of fact they complimented the good manners and respect my son was because he posses amazing traits in a young kid like himself. We will pay 1,700 to cance our lease to find a better school off post.
