La Iglesia church at chichen itza archaelogical site in yucatan, México. Chichén itza is a UNESCO world heritage site.
This was by far my favorite section of the site. The area around El Castillo was crowded with tourists and vendors and had the vibe of an amusement park, while these ruins were practically deserted and had the raw vibe of a genuine lost city. And you can practically walk right up to them. I almost don't want to post this, as I don't want this section of the site to become flooded with tourists and vendors, though it seems the majority of tour groups don't visit this section. I hope it stays that way.
Awesome time
A rectangular building with a single room inside. It has very detailed carvings including a mark of the god Chac sticking out on all four corners. Other carvings include an armadillo, a snail, a turtle and a crab. According to Maya mythology these animals hold up the sky. Beautiful intricate carvings on this historical ruins
Fantastic mayan architecture & sculpture in this location.
Part of the "Las Monjas" complex, La Iglesia is a small but very beautiful building adorned by mosaics and wonderful Cha'ak masks. No access to the interior is available but traces of the original stucco still remain on parts of the roof.
