What a hidden gem, interesting and a real touch of history with a "family touch"

Visited on a Bank holiday Monday, Café opened earlier than the house so a nice excuse for scone and cup of tea, very friendly and great food available.

Tour guides informative and friendly, with a touch of "geek" level detail of information.

A beautiful authentic, charming place of interest. Enjoyed visit to the castle & church. The staff were very knowledgeable and cheerful telling us stories and tales of the past & present. Pretty well kept garden near the water. A lovely place well worth a visit 🫠

Beautiful building, along with neighbouring church. Wonderful tour with the guide having extensive knowledge of the history. Amazing to think some tv and movies had been filmed here. Lovely tearoom at the end of the front lawn with adjacent gift shop. Great day out if you are interested in heritage and old buildings! The family of swans was a pleasure to see as well. 😄

In a lovely part of the world with plenty of free parking. The castle is open on certain days so check before you go! We booked tickets in advance with our historic house membership. House and gardens tour was well worth it as it brings the history of the house to life. Don’t forget to go up and the room for awesome views. Pop into the cafe for lovely cake 😉 Highly recommended day out.

Really liked this place. The parking was a bit limited, well, very limited, and the only toilets are in the car park but it’s not a very busy place so not a problem. We booked onto a guided tour and our guide was excellent and made more interesting as our guide was Martin Fiennes. We were given a great insight into his family and history of the building. This place is not commercialised, there’s no kids playgrounds or novelty’s which suited us just fine and is partly why I liked it so much. Very friendly staff / volunteers, I would highly recommend visiting.

Cute and nice. Only Sundays and Wednesday and only several months a year. Tour or self crawl. Mix of medieval and art deco. Place for Instagram photos. Moated manor house and garden. Tea rooms and plenty of parking

This place is a work of wonder. Truly not raised to it's value at it should. Great guide explaining history but also interacting with everyone. Tour is roughly 2 hours, but recommend to spend time in gardens and having tea and cake in front of the castle. A great place to spend a fantastic weekend afternoon with the family and loved ones.
