Only go with this company if you want to feel cheated and abused at the end of the day. Reservations mean NOTHING to them. They will NOT have the car that you "reserved", the electric car that you DIDN'T WANT will NOT be fully charged, and they will straight up LIE TO YOUR FACE about how much money they will charge to your credit card.
I barely hesitate to use the word 'evil', but these people are definitely scammers.

This had to be the worst experience I’ve ever encountered renting a car. I booked the car thru a 3rd party for a set price. When we got to the counter the agent did nothing but try and upgrade us to a different car. After saying no at least 5 different times he asked us if we wanted to purchase gas for 4.59 a gallon and we would pay when we returned the car, or we could pay 5.59 and bring it back full. We agreed to the 4.59. Big mistake! First bait and switch was the size of vehicle. We were supposed to get a midsize suv. The car we were given was a Nissan Kick, went I questioned them they said no that is a midsize suv on our list. I said you advertised as a Jeep Cherokee and those two vehicles are very different. The woman said oh no sorry those are corporate vehicles…I should have refused it and chose a different company, but luckily we knew we were not going to be driving much. When we returned the car we were charged around $13.49 for the gas we used as agreed upon. After we returned home I was checking the charges and realized they had overcharged us approximately 100.00 from what the original quote was. I called Payless and after talking with one of the rudest customer service reps I decided I needed things in writing. First they told me they couldn’t even find where I rented a vehicle from them, it’s been close to a month with no results. They told me I agreed to pay for a full tank of gas which I was charged close to 75.00 for! We’ve been back and forth and there compromise is to refund me the 13.49 in gas that we agreed to but not the 75.00 that the agent obviously lied about. We would never bought a full tank of gas when we knew we would only be taking it a short distance.

It was my first time renting with Payless and I have to say it was the quickest and smoothest rental compared to everyone else I’ve rented with. I rented with Payless out of Nashville airport. I would definitely go straight to them again next time I’m out of town!

Be sure to check your receipt. They charged me 3 different amounts. They need to check the brakes on the car I rented and during drop off the white lady was rude like she did want to help me.

Would give 0 stars if I could. Returned car with a full tank of gas. Was charged $106 for fueling fee. Company says I returned the car with less than 10 gallons of gas. I provided my gas receipt but rep stated again that the car was brought back with now… 5 gallons of gas. Good thing we took photos of the fuel gauge showing the gas was on F with over 400 fuel miles and a picture of the dashboard timestamped with the time of drop off. Still waiting for my refund. Terrible company and won’t be renting from them again.

Frederick (Fred) checked me out. I left without my DL (he was in possession of my DL to check me out). Was staying 1+ hrs away for the “1” day car rental. Left the Payless/Budget parking lot at Nashville Airport. Person at gate didn’t ask to see my DL. I didn’t realize that Fred didn’t give my DL back until hours later. My wife, myself, friends spent 2+ hrs searching for my DL.
I called 800 Payless/Budget number. They could not contact the desk at Nashville Airport and were not helpful. They had a “oh well” attitude.
The direct phone line on my receipt was a busy signal. I called for 3+ hrs. Then started calling this morning to no avail.
At drop off (only a “1” day rental), I went to the counter of Payless/Budget. The manager (Jordan) had my DL at the booth in the garage.
I asked him, “why didn’t Fred or someone call me to tell me that you were in possession of my DL”?
Answer: “we thought you’d come back”
Unbelievable poor customer service and complete incompetence! Very frustrating experience.

I stood in line for 45 mins to pick up this car. Probably cause we all got the same notification on a great price! All of the other car rental lines were not nearly as long. There were only 2 people working and one guy was pretty slow. In this day of computers why don’t you change your business model—have all data entered by the customer in online when reserving the vehicle. Then the desk clerk can just check customer ID to make sure it is you and you are on your way!! This could be Express CheckIn.
