Great lil museum with exhibitions that showcase the special people and places of New Iberia. The George Rodrique pieces were wonderful especially the recreation of his art studio with the last painting he was working on as well as the first piece he ever painted.

Very good history of New Iberia, from its founding to current times. The intro video was very good Displays were well designed and easy to read. History of the salt mines was especially interesting.

Great little museum that is right in town. We watched a little video and the rest was self guided. Make certain you go down into the salt mine.

For those interested in the history of the Southern Louisiana area, this is a rewarding experience, gives a good overview of all the facets of sugar cane, salt mining, Cajun Culture, food, and music. One can then get more in depth exposure by going to the Tabasco Factory, Avery Island, Jefferson Island, Konrico Rice Factory, Jennerette Sugar Cane Museum. Just down the street is Victors Cafe, highly recommend for a hole in the wall cafeteria, really good shrimp and grits. Also, the Pie Bar is just a few blocks away and definitely worth a visit for pie and coffee. The director was manning the front desk when we were there and she was uber friendly, lovely woman. The Shadow Teche Museum is closed for renovation at the present time.

Such a great little museum about the history of the area. I wasn't aware of much of the history of the bayou or the city itself and this gave a great in depth view of how it came to be. The welcome film in the old movie house ticket box was cool. There is also a recreation of the Rodrigue Blue Dog studio from his personal collection. There's a section dedicated to the author James Lee Burke as well. For $5 you can't beat it.
