We love this place! It is free entry! If you follow the entry road all the way to the end, you will find the main parking lot that has a huge round communal deck on a peninsula with picnic tables, a beautiful view, a grill, trashcans, bathrooms, a walking trail. There are other little roads on the way there where you could choose to explore that have little beach ares with grills and decks as well that are more private for parties /large groups where have taken our kayaks, swam, had a picnic and played in the sand.
Visiting the Charlotte area and wanted to find a beautiful hiking spot, this is it! No fee to get in. Several different parking areas. Not busy. Picnic, fishing and BBQ grill areas. Bathrooms available. Nicely kept up. So glad we stopped here!

Me and my dog love this place! The trails are always maintained and free of obstructions. Most importantly, we feel very safe every time we visit. People are always friendly and respectful.
This review is super late, & I had issues trying to upload all of the pictures. I camped out here with a group Friday, 10-28-22 thru Sun, 10-30-22. I never knew this campsite was there.
Aside from ROTC, this was my first time camping out. With a portable heater & lighting, it was a decent experience. The women's bathroom was clean. I loved the lake & all of the beautiful fall colors of the leaves. I don't remember exactly how much we paid for admission. Parking shouldn't be an issue unless you have a larger group like we did; you may have to park farther away from your tent and walk back, but it was not an issue. Just have good lighting in the evening.

Best primitive camping sites in Mecklenburg County. Reserve ahead of time is the fall the sites go fast. Hiking trails around the lake and plenty to keep you busy in the outdoors. Locked entry exit points with gate code after hours. If you need fire wood get there before 5pm front desk closes. Enjoy.
Great local park. Nice kept hiking trails. Lots of picnic tables. You can sit down by the lake. Have fun kits to rent for free at office like Mud Kitchen for kids to play in the creeks with. Something to do all year round. Has a small kids playground but not shaded well so too hot during summer afternoons.
