Laal Mahal symbolizes the pride of every Hindu person. This is the place where Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj spent his childhood. This is the place where Rajmata Jijabai moulded a young Prince Shivaji into a noble King Shivaji.
Govt has recently restored the place and also installed sculptures of mavale (Ch. Shivaji Maharaj's soldiers) on the premises. The main hall is also adorned with beautiful paintings of Shivaji maharaj's life. It would be nice if they also put up some more plaques about major episodes from Raje's life that would be great.

Lal Mahal (Red Palace) is a historically significant monument located in Pune. It was established by Shahaji Raje Bhosale, the father of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in 1630 AD for his wife Jijabai and son Shivaji. This palace holds great importance in Maratha history as it was here that Shivaji spent his childhood and received his early education.
The original Lal Mahal was destroyed and rebuilt several times, and the current structure, which stands in the heart of Pune near Shaniwar Wada, is a reconstruction completed in 1988 by the PMC.
There is no entry fee. But parking is a challenge here, it would be better if you visit the place on Auto or Uber. You can spend 10-15 mins at this place. There would be prayers at times as well you could join if interested. The place is a 5 min walk from Shaniwar Wada.

Except the large hall, every thing else was closed, even the toilets were closed. Would appreciate if some information about the place, facts etc were displayed for visitors.

Its more like a museum than a full fledged Mahal. They have restricted most of the areas. It is one of the historical place in which Shivaji Maharaj born and bought up here.
It is very near to Shaniwar wada, just the opposite side of the road. So visit both together. You will learn a lot about history here. And it will only take 20-30 minutes at most.
