My wife and I recently traveled from Vancouver BC, Canada to Kolkata via Delhi. We left YVR on July 4, 2024.
The good: Flight left on time from YVR and arrived in Delhi 90 minutes early. (Did Air India artificially inflate travel time!)
The just ok: Food during Vancouver to Delhi.
The bad:
1. At check in at YVR, told that my seat didn’t work and I was reassigned to another seat.
2. Turns out my seat was working ok but it was my wife’s seat that was defective. In the end I had to sleep in staff seat😰
3. The staff were trying to be good but that’s the best I can say for them. I suppose it is not easy for amateurs to excel unless the job is easy. Wrong food served, pretending to be helpful when they only want to do what they reluctantly must do, etc.
4. Flight from Delhi to Kolkata was delayed.
5. The business class seats were so dirty that I hesitated to sit.
6. The business cabin was stinking.
7. The business cabin had flies.
8. The food was horrible.
9. The flight had extreme turbulence but NO words of warning before event nor any words of reassurance after the event.
The only real good thing:
10. I was happy the journey ended.
I hope the return flight is better.

Most horrible flight in my life. I travel to EW to CCU. liberty Airport to Kolkata. When I put first on board, it smell like a toilet when I still moving around reach my seat I saw the screen display. It’s not working food try table was broken seat handle was broken. When I ask your hostess about screen is not working they told me half of aircraft screen is not working is very old carrier..
Letter on the serving food and drinks they make a downgrade
They having only sorted popcorn, water, juice, and drinks in a small glasses
If you ask cold drinks they will give you in a small glasses even the water also.
Later on the serving lunch, thank God I book previously my meals . I have seen people are fighting about non-male and meal vegetable meal.
In the meal there was horrible taste less food, undercooked rice, lentil, and chewy, chicken and gravy with a chewy French bucket and little salad and one dessert and water small quantities.
In the evening time, they are serving drinks and coffee. I asked for the Diet Coke. They told me they don’t have diet Coke in the board later on I asked for Gingerale. They are looking for it in business class after half an hour later they gave it to me.
In the dinner, they give me a small box like a four standard boys lunchbox, 8 to 10 spoon of rice, few pieces of chicken strip and lentil no braids. Fried potato and pomegranate salad. It’s look like 3 to 4 day old potato the fried and serve as like salad and blueberry mousse.
I was looking for the bread they told me they have only the leftover bread from lunch. I told them this is the very small quantity of food. It’s not enough for the one people also so I asked for that lunch bread they give it to me.
Later on morning breakfast, they are serving the small packet around 3 inch long Paneer wrap for everyone and tea coffee that’s all .
The food quality was horrible test-less if they are Charging the amount of money, they should provide nice hospitality and service. In 15 hours flight people are without entertainment and the horrible food. Do you think your India is improving?
When the flight was arrive at Delhi airport, the flight was not docking . They provide a shuttle bus. from mid of runway to Immigration.
People are coming from United States of America. They are not habituate This much hot and humor temperature. So I got sick.
Later on I go for boarding to Kolkata one people are coming from year India they said you have too much weight caring I said why they said you have a laptop and hand caring so you have to pay for it . I told him I’m coming from international they are not told me anything about this so I wait my hand carry is 7 kg they told me no you didn’t wait your laptop so you have to pay for that. they hold me at boarding gate till the last passenger arrive on the board I give it my credit card they said is not working they asking for the cash I give it cash, but they are not giving any receipt for it. I was waiting for receipt. they said you will get on your mail, I was still waiting. And then he said Sir his final call for you. You have to leave we going to send this to your mail. I said no I want the receipt.. when the few people are came from the airlines try to convince me the person in charge he make a copy and give it to me.
So this is modern Air India Airlines..

Improved service after takeover by TATA
The formalities to board the flight have been made easier and the executives are now more humble and active.
The check in systems are also not too much cumbersome as earlier. I found digital systems at all the check ins , security, luggage etc that saved much time.

Had quite a nice experience.
We were returning from Chennai to Kolkata. In flight experience was extremely good (talking about seats, leg rooms). Weather was cloudy and had high chance of rain but probably had the smoothest take off and had minor jerks.
Ticket price was identical to others but AI provides meal which other don't.

One of the worst service I ever had, I had a flight 14-Apr 8:35 kolkata to Bangalore.
I reached airport by 7:30,
I didn't notice the check-in closing time and I'm standing in long que, nobody called from the airline team for Bangalore flight closing and at 8 am I reached check-in they said it is closed. I literally requested as much as possible still 35 minutes left by nobody helped and I booked a business class 2 tickets with my wife with additional weight 35kgs but they never took a single effort to help where there's a room to help.
I respect Honorable Sir RATAN TATA and this people will bring disrespect to his new venture into Air India.
