Mysore zoo has two parking lots one was exactly opposite to the zoo which is small which can accommodate only few cars will be full most of the time due to place crunch. The other one you have to go little far around 300 meters by walk via 2 wheeler or four wheeler they have very clear sign boards instructing about the place. Its a big ground with more than 200 cars. Both the parking lots are having a fixed charge of 50rs for parking while taking the car out please be careful since one way plays a huge role. Make sure you don't park the vehicle near to zoo.

There are two Parking Lots near the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Garden, one is exactly opposite to the zoo and second one is just 100 meters away from the zoo. The first one is quite small and it can accommodate hardly 20 cars and few two wheeler. However, the second one is quite big and large which can accommodate more than 300 plus cars. Both parking lots are paid parking.

Mysore Zoo was created from the private menagerie of Maharaja Sri Chamaraja Wodeyar in 1892, on 10 acres (4.0 ha) of the summer palace. Over the next 10 years the zoo was expanded to 45 acres (18 ha) with spacious enclosures that are still in use.

The Zoo's original founder, Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar
Originally called the Palace Zoo, it was renamed "Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens" in 1909. Mr. A.C. Hughes, from South Wales, was the zoo's first superintendent. He served as the superintendent from 1892 to 1924. Hughes, Sir Mirza Ismail, and G.H. Krumbiegel worked towards refashioning the zoo and updating it with modern, natural enclosures. It now includes a bandstand and an artificial lake. It was given to the Department of Parks and Gardens of the Mysore State Government in 1948. The zoo was expanded first with another 50 acres (20 ha), and then another 150 acres (61 ha) with the acquisition of the Karanji Tank (Karanji reservoir), in which an artificial island has been created as a sanctuary for birds.

The zoo was handed over to the Forest Department in 1972, and was entrusted to Zoo Authority of Karnataka (the first autonomous organization in India to manage a zoo) in 1979.

The zoo had completed 100 years in 1992. The centenary celebrations were held in 1990 and 91. During the centenary celebrations various developmental activities were initiated such as renovation and modification of the entrance gate, hospital building, Walk Through Reptiles, etc. The bust of Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar, founder of Mysore Zoo, was unveiled. The logo of the zoo, centenary souvenir, publication of literature & leaflets, conducting various competitions, preparation of a documentary film were other highlights

Mysure Zoo is one of the best place to see or a must visit place when in Mysure..one of the best well maintained zoo..Multiple drinking water outlets inside the premises that offer a much required drink break. Water is purified and is maintained well and clean. Almost every animal is covered and the place for the aqua birds are just well maintained. Do plan for a good 3 hr visit as the Zoo is that big and every minute of yours will be worthwhile. Prefer the Morning timings as the Zoo starts at 8.30 and avoid crowd. Don't worry about the food as it has a good eatery (hotel) which has reasonable rated and tasty food. If you are planning with Senior Citizens, they also have Electric Card which will take you round the Zoo with a Fee.
