Definitely a must-do in Guayaquil. We went up on a 'feels like 38' day, and it was fine - take breaks along the way and seek shade. The beginning of the stairs is quite clearly marked. Note that there are a couple of places where there are additional stairs, but it's pretty easy to see which are the main stairs. We wanted to take a different route down, so we took a turn towards the Escalinatas Laterales, then walked south on the pretty Numa Pompilio Llona.

Good place to exercise. Beautiful views to walk ip and down the stairs. Small church at the top with great views of Guayaquil.

Very easy climb to the top. Was expecting worse because of some reviews here - but then I did come from the high altitude of Quito and Cuenca, so being at sea-level is a breeze. You can do this safely in the evening like I did, or during the day. There's guards along the stroll up. It's pretty quiet though. Not much to see or do along the way and hardly any people. But the view at the top is worth the visit alone. Plus it's free. Grab some water though - it's hot and humid here.

Safe, interesting staircase. The route is clearly marked. Guards patrol making it very safe. Lots of young Ecuadorians enjoying leisure time here. You only have to be moderately fit for the steps . There are also lots of little shops and cafes on the way up selling beer, water and other snacks. Very worthwhile visiting.

Daunting but very rewarding when you reach the top

Super

This is how you get to the lighthouse and church on top of the hill. 444 steps to the top with a few breaks in between the steps so you can enjoy the shops, bars, restaurants and night clubs. Entrance is free and the steps are wide. Very worth visiting.

If you would like to visit the light house , this is the way . Well kept, clean and safe. The recommendation is follow the numbers on the steps and enjoy the hiking.a long the way are some shops and restaurants (check the opening time)
