Of all the palaces in Sintra, this one is my favorite. The gardens are expansive, taking us more than three hours to explore, and we still didn't see everything. It's a magnificent place where I could easily spend an entire day. The palace itself is equally impressive, featuring an architectural style reminiscent of the Middle East. Compared to Pena Palace, Monserrate is more affordable, with no queues, and takes much longer to explore. If you're deciding which palace to visit in Sintra, this one should definitely be at the top of your list. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
PS: A quick tip. If you buy your tickets online, at least 3 days in advance, you get 15% off.

We visited on a Monday and it wasn’t crowded at all! We started in the gardens, which were the best we’d seen in Sintra. They had designated areas for different plants, like Fern Valley and the Mexican cactus area. The palace itself is generally unfurnished, but absolutely gorgeous! The stonework and the care put into its restoration is truly amazing- the building itself is a piece of art. The first floor has each room labeled with a sign explaining its original use. On the second floor they have signs and pictures explaining the history of the palace spread over the whole floor. We were there for about two hours looking around, and this was definitely our favorite palace in Sintra!

Wow! This palace is so pretty! The whole place is full of details and you can't stop looking at it. The gardens are colorful and fun, the best place to have a picnic. I'm a bit sad we didn't have food on us so that we could stay and have a picnic there. There was even a painter there, painting the view. Worth the entrance fee 120%. Visit this place, I mean it!

What a beautiful place to visit! The gardens are amazing and well kept. There is a short and a longer path to the palace, I recommend the long one. If you're a nature buff, you are going to love it. The palace is very beautiful. I highly recommend! As buses were full that day, we took a tuk tuk back to the city. Our driver was amazing and took us into scenic back roads.

Fantastic place! We really appreciated the history and detail everywhere we looked! The palace is essentially completely open and the gardens are just gorgeous. There were multiple renovations and owners of this palace, and the history is published to read on the second floor.

Beautiful palace, both inside and outside, and a lush garden with a variety of plans, several waterfalls, picturesque ruins and flower gardens. Be careful with the renovation work, currently some paths lead nowhere, but aren't marked so. We took our time and enjoyed the visit for around 2 hours with leisurely strolling and a short break on the lawn in the sun.
