Gorgeous little relic. Great video talking about the church’s history inside, as well as a selection of rare oddities and tile works. Definitely stop by! And look out for cats sleeping in the theatre room!
A must see place in Lisbon downtown. Normally very crowded. Lots of traffic around but still easily accessible. Definitely recommend to visit.
If you're into old architecture and ruins this is very cool to see and it's only 5 Euro. Some very interesting artifacts and I think worth the admission price.

Another must-see historical site in Lisbon. These ruins are of a convent that was destroyed in the 18th century earthquake. While restoration work is done today, after the quake, the ruins were left as a reminder to the city of what had been lost.
The ruins are impressive, with an excellent museum on site.
I recommend getting to the convent early in the morning to avoid the crowds.
Oh, and enjoy the convent cat who is always available for photos.

An attraction that has been extremely under estimated! I love this museum so much. It is not big, but it is telling you a very interesting story about the past, about its history in Lisbon. The entrance ticket is cheap but extremely valuable. There were some highlights of my time here - first of all I met the mascot, I couldn't remember how long I played with him. He is very cute and friendly and clingy with me!! Second I was amazed by the 3D movie they made for this museum. It is a "must-see" of this place! It is within the indoor display area but on the left side of the entrance. Do not miss the short movie, do not skip the movie, make sure you watch it full (it is rolling) with a 3min ish break in between. The movie was made in 2 languages and mixed spoke (Portuguese then English). The story was so interesting that you would fall into it easily. The special effect was made to fit the actual wall in the room. At the end of the movie, you can even see the mascot walking through on the screen. Slow down, take some time, Carmo Convent is definitely worthy of visiting.
This is a small, but interesting museum. Due to the fact that its located in a ruined medieval convent it feels somehow more authentic. Fairly cheap price of admission, but there is not so much to see that you'd wanna be there for more than an hour, tops. Still, charming and vaguely impressive.

A lovely square to walk around. I lived around when having my holidays at Lisbon. Great location - close to a lot of attractions and when it was sunny the view is really open and nice. It is also at a great transportation area, loads of shops, restaurant and bus station near by!

The visit to the ruins was, unfortunately, underwhelming. Enclosed behind a fence, these remnants of the past stand bare, with no interpretive signs or information to shed light on their historical context. It seems like a missed opportunity to connect visitors with the site's past. The lack of any engaging narrative or description reduces the ruins to little more than an ancient shell, devoid of the stories that could have brought them to life. In this state, they're merely a curiosity without substance—a 1/5 rating feels just, given the disappointment and the potential that clearly went untapped.
I think most of the reviewers are mistaking the Castelo de Mouros with the cisterna, which is a small, underground cistern with limited space that can be fully seen in 90 seconds. I would not make any special effort to visit the cistern if cisterns are your thing. However, as it is on the castle grounds, if you’re there to see the castle and there is no line to see the cistern, it may be worth a quick look.
I absolutely loved it! When you stand in front of it, the sheer scale and grandeur are truly breathtaking. These structure is massive, and if you're anywhere nearby, I highly recommend visiting to experience their magnificence firsthand.

It is surrounded by many stores, restaurants and coffee shops. Metro station to the east and the Rossio train station to the west.
Especially beautiful is the cobble stone pattern that adorns the entire square.

This was my highlight of Sintra and you can easily spend half a day just enjoying tulle walking route and stunning grounds of the park. The Palace ilhas some incredible features and the restaurant offered some lovely food. If you're into nature walks you'll definitely love this.
The novices have not yet taken the vow of silence and sell the extremely yummy treats for the convent. If you like almonds this is a place you should not miss. Make sure to have some of the local currency on hand to buy the amazing baked goods that they sell. We also found out that the bars were installed to keep the rowdy school boys from naughtiness.
This is the most beautiful park you can imagine and there's a scenic view combined with the prettiest little castle and the option of finishing with a cold beer in the cafe. Highly recommended when in Sintra. As a matter of fact; skip Sintra and just visit this gem.
Wow, such an incredible historical site. This is one of the less visited palaces of Sintra which gives the visitor a better opportunity to enjoy the rich detail of the ornate exteriors and interiors without the crowds. Purchased our ticket online the same day. We got there around 3pm and spent about 1.5 hours exploring. They also have a great coffee shop/ restaurant with lots of seating. Truly a gem and worth visiting while in Sintra.

Also has a great history display upstairs. I recommend taking the path to the left down hill through the garden and then getting the little "train" from the cafe up the hill when you are finished. The train goes up and back approx every 15 min and is included in the ticket price, so there is no excuse to miss out.

Sintra was the best attraction in the Lisbon area.
We visited only this palace, which I was surprised to find out it was privately owned, like other palaces around that belonged to aristocrats.
There is a 10-minute walk through lovely gardens to get to the house if you go straight there. This place is huge.
We used the bus that comes every 20 minutes or so, and on our way back to the train station, we took a tuktuk, which was quicker and cheap.

Very large convent in scale, with grand columns towering above you as you look up.
Amazing to think how grand in stature this would have been.
It's going through a big renovation project, which will help restore it to some former glory.

Stunning park with church ruins that are beautifully overgrown. The Palace itself is intricate and beautiful. The grounds were open at 9am to stroll leisurely without any other people, that’s the way to truly enjoy them. The Palace opens at 9:30, again only minimal people so loud voices didn’t spoil the serenity.

You can take the lift to the top and enjoy the panoramic view. The tickets are accessible and there is no one queuing up. You can easily enjoy and take as many pictures as you want without anyone being in your way.
Narrow roads ro get there....and very steep road going zig zag to get to the bottom...about 20-30 degree slope....by far the steepest slope I ever drove on....FYI do not take any old ladies down this road...they will probably have a heart attack....but good experience non the less

It is so amazing to walk through history. They are doing some repairs to the structure and the informative video/light show of the history was very cool. I also love that it is an inexpensive visit and kids are free. Worth a quick visit while in Lisbon. Awesome archeological museum that showcase the history of Lisbon. Was pleasantly surprised to see a real mummy inside!! The preserved ruins with interesting stonework is a great start as you stand beneath the remains of the vault that collapsed in the great earthquake of 1755. The museum has many interesting artifacts along with a short film about the history of the convent. Afterward we strolled around back of the ruins and climbing just a few steps we found ourselves at the top of the Santa Justa elevator that many wait in long lines to enter.

Having heard this was available to climb, we went up and were greeted not only with the view from above of the Praça do Comércio, but also with up close looks of the statues at the top of the arch, as well as a timeline of the arch's lifetime.
With a budget friendly price to tickets, even if the stay is limited to 15 minutes at the top, it is worth the climb.
Just be sure to take some sunscreen or a hat/cap if it's sunny.

Leider ist der Platz vermüllt. Ein unschöne Zaun drumherum. Die Stadt sollte die Ruine sichern und zugänglich machen. Eine Tafel mit dem historischen Hintergrund wäre auch von Vorteil.
The grounds around the palace are wonderful. The variety of trees and other plants is impressive, and the atmosphere (except when you find yourself near the loud citizens of a certain neighboring country) is relaxing. My only complaint would be the condition of the rose garden, although that is easily explained by the need to save water during the summer.

It's definitely worth a visit to this monument. On top of the arch, you'll have a splendid view over the square below and the centre of Lisbon. The statues on top of the arch are beautiful as well.

Much more quiet than the other castles in Sintra but we'll worth a visit. Still absolutely stunning carvings and a lovely garden park. You can walk back to Sintra at least one way and it's a nice 2km stretch
Great location, fresh seafood, fries out of a packet (no complaints), and best salad I have had in a small stall. Shall definitely go back.

Must see place in Lisbon. Looks wonderful and so nice to walk around it. You can also go up with a ticket and I would say it is worth it. You can buy the ticket easily right there and there is not much of a wait the view from the top is fantastic and you can also ring the huge bell there. Gorgeous views of the city and Praca da commercia from the top
Area is undergoing improvement works but you are still able to get to it.
The architecture is really nice and wasn't too crowded during the week.
The local restaurants are quite expensive but looked like they served very good food.

A chill little light house between the bigger tourist spots you can easily check out for free along the walk.
Really cool viewpoint to see the whole city. When I was there, there was no queue and almost no one was on the top - you can enjoy the view without the crowds. The entrance is included in the Lisbon Card, so definitely recommend.
Beautiful statue of Fernando Pessoa. You can sit next to the statue to take a picture.
Old lighthouse between the Belém tower and the monument of discoveries. It is nice to see this building on the way as it is differently designed compared to more northern European lighthouses. However, it is not worth just passing by at this lighthouse.

What a view!
Obviously a must when in Lisbon! Nice archway that you can see from many places in the city. From the sea side is the best. Take a couple of pictures and enjoy it! Then walk down to the waterfront and take a look at the scenery. All in all a solid place to have a look around, would definitely recommend to stop by and have a look.

This is a stone and brick striped lighthouse situated on Tagus River promenade and in between the Belem Tower and the Monument to the Discoveries. You will pass by it if walking between the two. It is surrounded by a gated fence so appears to be no intention of making use of the historic building for tourism purposes at present. Have a look while passing by or while grabbing a bite to eat or drink at the small kiosks and pop ups nearby.

Just a big old house, with some walls of stone still standing. The main door and windows, made with vulcanic ashes stones, have some architectural value.

Kein Ausflug wert. Es sieht eher aus wie eine zerfallene Kirche. Nichts weißt auf ein Fort hin und man kann sich auch über nichts informieren. Ob das Ding wirklich restauriert wird, wage ich zu bezweifeln. Spart euch die Zeit und schaut euch was anderes an. Die Promenade ist auch nichts besonderes, außer man hat dort ein Hotel und läuft sowieso zufällig mal dran vorbei.
Light house is an old and nonfunctional lighthouse but the bar next to it plays cool music and is a good place to rest and get a drink or two.
Stand Oktober 2022 gibt es hier nichts zu sehen. Es ist einfach ein verfallenes, eingezäuntes Gebäude. Die Promenade drumherum ist aber ganz hübsch.

All coffee-d out, we went for one here to simply add to the culture of the trip. It’s a historical landmark (a bronze, eater depiction of Portuguese writer and literary figure Fernando Pessoa (steps away from the oldest physical bookstore I may add).

It is a great place in crossover with contemporary and heritage decor. The foods and services are good although it is bit cosy. It is worth and not disappointed experience anyway.
Their Pastéis de nata was yummy. They have other desserts options as well. Their Latte is basic. Dont attempt to order any other coffee.

... eine alte Ruine, die zur Zeit restauriert wird. Man kommt an ihr vorbei, wenn man auf dem Weg zur Uferpromenade ist. In der Mauer vor der Ruine sind viele Eidechsen zu beobachten. Sie fressen am liebsten Bananen.

Wonderful experience at this famous cafe. Excellent coffee and pastries to be savoured. Kick back and watch the world go by. Don't forget to have a look inside, it's so ornate and old world beautiful. Check out the pastry display cases which are incredible. I'm going back here...
We came as a group of three on a Monday afternoon due to a recommendation of a friend. Our cappuccino and coffees americano were really great. Rarely have I had such excellent coffee!

Do not attempt to get there by foot from Faial da Terra! The „road“ is not even a path. Half of it is just made of unstable rock beach and in the middle, the scary looking cliff fell (recently it looks like) and has blocked the way.

Experience the nature 🐋 poor thing
Small but cozy place to have lunch or dinner close to the main door of Castelo de São Jorge. I would always recommend booking a table. The food is delicious! In the pintures below: honey-orange chicken and hot pot made of beef with potatos, rice and salad.
Ótima opção de passeio, não é cobrado entrada. Você entra, tem a opção com guia, mas dá pra fazer o tour sem o guia e aproveitar também. Consegue ter uma vista linda da cidade e Ponte, além do mar.
Beeindruckender Ort
This arch is the main public entrance to the famous St Jorge castle. At this point, if you are going inside to see the castle towers and museum, you can buy tickets. If not, you can still browse around the cobbled lanes inside the castle walls. We followed the lanes up a little higher and found the peacocks and stopped for to taste the ginja at a little café nearby where we could sit in the sun beside the castle wall.
This is a wonderful old gateway to the castle and view.

The vista - stunning. The road down - utterly terrifying. You will absolutely smell burning pads and transmission fluid after the descent. But it’s likely a rental car, so...no worries!
Arco do castelo is one of the main entering point to castle. The castle is not very beautiful but it has beautiful views and bit high hill so you can enjoy the beautiful view of the city. It's not very expensive as well, it's a must visit place in Lisbon. You can climb up on walls to have nice view.
I ordered Sorpatel it was more like an Indian curry not satisfied. This place is like an Indian curry place rather than Portuguese cuisine. Although the waiter was polite and the service was quick it’s a cosy place. There’s a washroom and free WiFi.
Its one of the greatest place to walk in the world. You will see Alot of old architecture building around. there's a lot of local souvenir shop also provided some unique stuff. they also have some local food around.
The arc signifies that the visitor is entering the territory belonging to the castle. If you come across this, then you're on the correct route to the castle.
