Lunch Rock

A favorite spot for years, and I have never heard it called "Lunch Rock". It's just the rock at Haw Creek Valley overlook. We know that open food containers and bears do not mix well, and we know that bears come to this location, so to call it Lunch Rock is almost more nature-hating than it is nature-loving. Anyway, naming revisions aside, there used to be a single, narrow, hard-to-find climbing spot from the roadway, until recently, and now the anthropogenic erosion (from lunch packers with not enough hands free?) is so off-the-charts that the traditional route is too bald, too wide, too slippery, with no ascent/descent leverage, and they carved out a second one next to it, so I think it's bittersweet how we 'destroy to enjoy', but the valley view is nice any time of day, especially at dusk, and the rock is directly connected to the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST), running behind it.

Great hike to the Lunch Rock and a gorgeous view all year round. Accessible via the bus line, too!

This spot is an overlook. Not a trailhead for hiking.

Sweet overlook, several other couples and directly above an overlook on the parkway, so annoying civilization noise from motorcycles, their sound systems and boom boxes.
