A very cool monument that unfortunately is in a pitiful state due to neglect (as of December 2023). Also known as "El Angel y el León" (The Angel and the Lion), it was created by the Italian-Argentinian sculptor Roberto Negri and donated by Italy to Chile in 1910 to celebrate the centennial of Chilean independence. The bronze sculpture depicts an angel holding a torch in his hand, symbolizing knowledge and freedom, with a lion walking forward on his side. After having been relocated a few time in the course of its history, it is now, quite appropriately, in Plaza Italia (Italy square).
