Kariatis Restaurant

We had a nice dinner at Kariatis. We were welcomed warmly and sat in a decent spot to see a little bit of the water. We enjoyed our 2 red wines…one was a cab-sauv, the other a Merlot. The bruschetta was pretty sparse for toppings although the flavour was excellent, the crepe marinera was spectacular, the lobster & shrimp risotto (somewhat over-priced considering the outcome of the dish) was too al dente and the shrimp/lobster overcooked, but the show-stopper of the meal was the beef-tenderloin pappardelle with mushrooms…it was one of the best dishes we’ve had in Crete! At the end of our meal, we were treated to a lovely sweet dessert wine and tasty chocolate truffle. Overall, a nice night out, with reasonably fair prices, and I would recommend Kariatis.

Edit after owner’s comment: justification of review- two of our four dishes were exemplary…two of our dishes were below average. I wish I could give a 4.5 star rating.

After a week of Greek food, we wanted something different so decided to have Italian. Kariatis was so excellent we ended up returning the next night as well. The pasta with beef, focaccia and wild mushroom starter were all amazing. Next night we had a big salad and a pizza. Great wine list as well, and our server Demetrius was lovely.

We were three people for dinner. The served bread was very good, cocktails I would rate as ok.

Starter: mozarella (5/5) and tuna tartare (5/59

Main: Ravoli (4/5), Napoli 3/5)

Overall one of the most expensive restaurants in chance, but a nice atmosphere and top service.

Steak gorgonzola over spaghetti noodles was outstanding. Every steak at our table was able to be cut with a butter knife where mine was already sliced but I cut into smaller pieces with my fork. Everything was great. Worth every penny. Spicy tuna roll was an appetizer. Great value for this carefully prepared food. Good wine, food, mixed drink and dessert selection. If I'm ever back in Chania I'll come here again.

A little bit hidden behind a big building but really worth eating there. The food is excellent, the service outstanding. The waiters and the owners are super friendly. Food is made while you can watch it in the open kitchen. And the owners eat there their own food too, which is usually a good sign! We had a really good experience there and will come back!

A fantastic dinning experience, great food cooked to perfection and attentive staff. I took my wife here to celebrate her 40th birthday and was not disappointed. My lobster risotto was cooked to perfection and my wife’s fillet steak was tender juicy and delicious. I also order a birthday cake for two made by their pastry chef, it was delicious and looked incredible cover in gold leaf for maximum effect. We was not disappointed. We shall be visiting again.
